People hate him? I think if they do, it's because they are either a Sony or Sega fanboy and are absolutely butt-devestated that his games have consistently blown the fuck out of theirs for decades.

If not that, it's probably because Nintendo hasn't made a truly great game since SSBM. Everything since then he has been involved with has been a huge downgrade since his Donkey Kong to OoT streak.

People seem to attribute a lot of bad decisions Nintendo made in the 2000s to him, such as cancelling Twilight Princess 2 and turning it into Link's Crossbow Training, and the "Mario mandate"
I have no idea if he was actually the driving force behind those things though

His alleged comments towards Donkey Kong Country directly coincide with how Rare ended up being treated by Nintendo as they became more valuable and kept cranking out hit after hit.
Even though people claim the quotes are fake, I'm pretty sure Miyamoto legitimately did not like DKC and was bitter that it was such an insanely big success.

Along with what other anons said ITT, people also have the idea that he is responsible for stressing that story elements should be toned down or almost non-existent in various games, mostly the Mario series, and subsequently things like the Mario RPGs don't get enough love because of it.

I think part of it is people think he is presented as the singular creative force of the games he worked on, overshadowing that he worked alongside other key developers that molded the final vision. He is most memorable as a character designer and then throwing in wacky ideas when he had his foot in the door working on projects.

Miyamoto's original idea for Link's Crossboy Training was this bizarre time travel scenario where Link uses real guns, which is hardcore and based as fuck, but everyone on the dev team was lame and turned down the idea. It's not his fault they made the game boring.

Because the Donkey Kong character was the only thing he legitimately "created", when he was tasked with reskinning that Popeye game. The later Mario and Zelda games were produced by teams of competent programmers and artists based off his vague ideas/suggestions; he basically stood behind their chair chainsmoking cigarettes and shouting insults at them.

Inevitably it's fans of certain Nintendo series, who think he is single handedly keeping them from getting the games they want.
In actuality, I don't think Miyamoto even does much at Nintendo do decide which games get developed and which don't.
He has particular pet projects that he has some sway over (Pikmin, Splatoon, Starfox), and he has to make sure the younguns aren't completely fucking up Mario.
It's not like he runs the place.
Even with Starfox Zero which is a game people hate that he was basically to blame for, he was tasked with making a game that integrated the Wii U gamepad. Only so much of that is his fault, you know. He didn't engineer the console. He had a job, and he did it.
