Gaming Laptop Died
I fried the motherboard of my gaming laptop and can't play my FGs or my RTS's at the moment. I have a Chromebook from 2016.

I want to emulate some old SNES or Genisis games that are underappreciated.

Games That I have already tried
FE4, 6, 7, I like them but I am burned out on FE now
DKC, Love the music and visuals but the gameplay kinda bores me
Chrono Trigger, I have zoomer brainrot and can't enjoy a slower rpg
Metroid was kinda fun
Streets of Rage was fun as a kid

Idk I want a nice game with nice visuals and addicting but high skill ceiling gameplay. I don't really want platformers bc the skill comes from memorizing levels and speed running which is gay.

I am in my mid 20s and this takes me back to being a broke student at 17. I couldn't afford a real game console so I just modded my Wii and emulated on my laptop.

Now adays I am boring. I play Soulcalibur VI competitively and Tekken, SF, and GB casually as well as Starcraft II. I like the high skill ceiling and the relatively low time investment required.

High skill ceiling + SNES/Genesis - platformers = ...certain action puzzle games with combo systems, like Tetris Attack or Puyo Puyo maybe? Shumps maybe? Unconventional platformers like Alien Soldier or Umihara Kawase? The highest skill ceiling by far on either console is that of Mario Paint, but that's not really a good recommendation here, for multiple reasons

If you don't like platformers or JRPGs the SNES isn't gonna do much for you. You like shmups? Just try a bunch of shmups. Or some runnin guns like Contra

F Zero is fun but you may find it ugly and a little flat in the gameplay. But the challenge is good

the godamn battery clip on the g14's motherboard. it is supposed to slide out gently than you raise the battery cable but it was in there tight and when I got it out it flew and landed on the motherboard.

Looks very interesting

I don't dislike platformers, I've just had my fill of them for a lifetime.

Already played it, and a lot of the N64 and GC versions

Why don;t you get an old i7 SFF desktop and throw a cheap GT1030 actively cooled in it with 18 or 32 GB or DDR4 and a 1TB+ SSD. I have a couple of machines like that around the house for light gaming/utility/python/ work procesisng/ emulation and they use very little electricity are typiclally less than 200Watt total and very fast for their purpose and do Win XP HyperV and other stuff for me well. You can pick the basis for one iup with an old 4th gen i7 and 16GB for 100-150 bucks. You get a very usable machien with HDMI and Displayport etc that can do ust about anything you like and they cost nothing

I empatise with this, got drowned in them in the 80s and by the time the PS1 was done I was sick of them, the platform mechanic has been done to death and there was too much of it around in the 80s probably peaked with the last raymans and shit like assasins crede but I was already bored of it asfter manic miner jet set willy and ghosts and goiblins and in 3D the PS1/PS2 era with stuff like pandemonium, gex, crash, cros, jax and dexter, oddworld, rayman etc up to tombraider. Platformer segments in stuff like baldurs gate dark alliance or FPS like half life just pisses me off. Anygame that can be speedrun by muscle memory because it lacks randomness is a bit shit desu

I whined to asus and told them I was a mentally retarded disabled vet and my computer is my only friend and they gave me a 1 time free repair bc the guy felt bad for me. They tried to rescind it once they realized I had done so much damage to it they would miss out on 1500$ of lost revenue but I became a Karen and now it is being repaired on the house.

It isn't even a new one. G14 2021 with the mobile 3060 and amd ryzen 7 5600, but up until literally the past few months it's handled every AAA title I threw at it.

Oblivion was tricky but i got it to 60fps by disabling lumen, BF6 couldn't hold 60 and I am not even gonna try and run the MGS3 remake on it.

Any game that isn't Unreal Slop runs really well though.

Yup. Some of my fondest memories are with GB/GBA platformers and GameCube ones. I got Super Mario Land from my cousin on the grey brick when I was 4 years old.

As an teen I kinda got interested in speed running for a bit and learned to speed run it to the point where I could close my eyes and just go by rythmn alone on some levels.

It's still a skill, but it's rote and not fun.
It's why I love fighting games and real time strategy, it's dynamic and constantly evolving, and I am struggling against another human being and not a preset level design.

Dual Orb 2 is badass. It has monster trucks and sniper rifles.
