No they haven't. Nobody called it "AI" before 2022. The traditional term was always CPU.

It did make me thing of when that change really occurred. "CPU" was used throughout the 90s, but I remember in high school and college "AI" started to be used specifically to refer to enemy behavior in FPS games.
