Fuck this game. I've been replaying the 3 crash games that exist, and I can't keep going. I beat crash 1 100% no problem apart from the invisible steps in a few levels.

Then I get to this pile of trash. The amount of backtracking into the screen is ridiculous, the camera fucks you more than anything else in this game. The secrets areas are unintuitive, you're expected to know you can fall into a random pit on level 15, and climb on nitro's in another. Wanna get everything the first time you play a level? Too bad, there's heaps of levels where you have to play through it to get the gem, get the other gem, get the secret warp, get the race gem, come back once you've found the coloured gem, come back once you have the secret warp area unlocked, etc etc. I just tried beating cold hard crash and I go down the pirate path and there's a fucking ! box next to a gem, so you have to go through it all again when they could have easily put the gem in the ice. Also the ice physics are shit, and you keep momentum even when you run into something.

The boxes are literally put off-screen so you have to go to max jump height on every jumpy box and enemy just in case. The music is fucking trash, it's upbeat short loops that become even MORE upbeat and badly mixed when you go into a bonus, gem, or pirate area. The PAL frame rate fucks you I'm pretty sure on the bear levels and you have to be frame perfect to get all the boxes, plus there's the dark bear level with beginners traps everywhere cos you can't fucking see which path to take in advance. And my reactions are sublime so don't start.

Lazy fucks made 3 plant levels, 2 bee levels, 3 snow levels, 2 ruin levels, 2 jetpack levels (which suck hard), 2/3 sewer levels I forget, 3 bear levels, and 2 running away levels. The variety is garbage. Finding the blue gem is retarded, nobody would know to go through a level missing every box. The amount of times I got 90/91 or 150/151 boxes because the TNT didn't blow up off-screen or the nitro ! didn't work for some reason is insane.

The cycles are bullshit, you constantly have to stand and wait as if that's a skill. The bosses are piss-easy time-wasters, the projections are annoying, the slide mechanic adds nothing to the game, and if you liked spinning with circle too bad fuck you learn to use square. This game is trash and everyone who calls it the best crash is retarded.

Oh and jumping on the bear for lives, nice touch you pieces of shit.

Oh and the bonuses are mandatory and shit, they turned brio and cortex into goofy chunguses, got rid of sexy tawna and added feminist bitch coco, and you hit 99 lives by world 3 cos they made it artificially difficult and you only die to bullshit

I really like the way the game acknowledges your failure to get a crystal in the beginning. missing your first crystal will get a message nagging from cortex and then bringing him a only a gem will make him completely flummoxed. when i do a replay it's like a little tradition to go through that sequence. seems fitting.

If you're actually interested in doing it, Chill Penguin has the easiest pattern out of all the mavericks in X1. Take the weapon you get to Spark Mandrill from there.

No way nigga, 100%'ing any of the PS1 Crash games is way harder than beating any MMX game

Most of the secrets in Crash 2 have some kind of hint to figuring them out. The box counter at the end of Turtle Woods changes from showing the total number of boxes to showing 0 after you get the regular gem. The nitro crates in Bee-Having don't bounce unlike regular nitro boxes. Admittedly, I don't remember if there's any hint to find out about that secret in Un-Bearable, but most of them you should be able to find without a guide.

First of all, I'm more of a Crash 1 fag and my rating of original trilogy was 2 > 1 > 3 as a kid but years later my opinion changed to 1 > 2 > 3. I mention this so that the rest of my post doesn't make me look like devoted Crash 2 fag.
Now about your Crash 2 complaints - there are some things you can complain about Crash 2 but you chose the most cherry-picked ones that don't even showcase the actual problems.

Never had issues with the camera in any Crash game from original trilogy. Now remakes? Yeah, I had issues, but it's mostly because Crash had no shadow on release and with such camera the platforming was a pain in the ass.

Okay, cool, we've reached one of fair complaints about Crash 2 - cryptic secrets.
Only for you to choose absolute garbage examples.
The bear leaves three wooden planks intact - this never happened in two previous boulder levels and this doesn't happen for the rest of Un-bearable. Isn't it weird? Plus word of mouth was a thing and some retarded kids just fell into that pit just to learn there's stuff hidden in there. But you wanna know the actual bullshit cryptic secret in Un-bearable? Going BACK right at the end of the level and crossing the wide gap with slide dash only to find a polar bear that teleports you to a secret level. But wow, you didn't mention it at all, guess you're a magician and learned about it on your first try!
Same about Nitro ladder - they DON'T BOUNCE. It takes a few seconds to realize that a static Nitro ladder in the middle of nowhere looks weird and out of place.
Green gem beng hidden behind fake wall and red gem being located on a fucking hidden floor from a different entrance were way worse, but don't worry, Crash 3 has fewer bullshit secret but they ARE bullshit. Haha, pterodactyl, bitch!

Crash 1 not telling you in advance which levels have colored gems AND asking for a deathless run was a garbage idea, so Crash 2 and 3 fixing it by showing which level has which gem was a good idea. Too bad the concept didn't change from 1 so you're still rushing through levels with just 1 gem in case some crates are locked behind colored gem route (2 gems usually means there's a skull route).

Another fair complaint - yes, Cold Hard Crash is the most bullshit level in original trilogy. It's a branched level yet only specific parts of each branch have crates in them so you do need to backtrack a lot and beat it in specific order to get a gem, and the cherry on top is that one single off-screen crate in Bonus section (which is why in Crash 3 Bonus sections list the total # of crates you can find in them). Good thing is, this is the ONLY level in entire trilogy designed that way (Piston It Away also has some backtracking but to a much lesser degree).

Boy, do play unpatched vanilla Crash IAT and try to get a perfect relic in Bears Repeating and Crash Landed. After 100+ failed tries (each taking 15-20 minutes) with no success you WILL learn the meaning of "frame perfect" and you will never complain about generosity of animal riding's hitboxes from original trilogy.

Crash 1 also had a bunch of themes repeating twice, but yeah, starting from Crash 2 some themes repeat 3 times and even more. But if you think that's bad then wait until you play Crash 3 - boy, I sure hope you love 3D platformers where more than half of the levels AREN'T platforming levels and instead gimmick levels.

Because you're a retard who didn't bother to replay it for a second time - if you have a colorless gem but not the blue gem, the box counter at the end of the level will say that zero boxes have to be broken (as a hint for the blue gem).

Yes, you shouldn't run away from them too fast because the game kinda "freeze" everything that's not close enough to a player (even off-screen stuff).

They already were in Crash 1 because you used Tawna ones to save. You could easily skip Brio ones, sure. Cortex ones were also mandatory to unlock levels.

Neither of these are bullshit IMO. In every other chase level, you can't backtrack once you beat it, so it's only natural to wonder what happens if you do try to go back in this one. Likewise with the green gem, there's a completely optional room filled with nitros and a single crate, so you end up questioning what the purpose of that room is (and you also do know there's a colored gem in that level).

Maybe if the gap was smaller, but it's just big enough to make you think it's impossible (I failed it as a kid).

It's still a meh secret
Red gem is also shown on Snow Go and you already know how to get it - you don't play Snow Go (inb4 haha funny exploit with bouncing crate where you can actually reach it from below).
Hiding a green ! crate behind that door would be a way better tip, because then a player would question "wait a minute, I didn't break nitros" and bother to explore more, especially the room with nitros. Alternatively (and this is how I learned it as a kid) you don't make a fake door, you make an actual door that explodes from nitro explosion once you hit the green ! crate and backtrack to that room to see the door being open now (in reality it didn't explode and I was baffled to learn that the door is just fake). Fake door is too much of a cheap "gotcha" secret compared to other colored gems and secret level gimmicks

Impossible? Not really. The gap does look harder to cross than it is, but the fact of the matter is that it is possible, and it's not very difficult to pull off neither.

I don't see the problem. If you're aiming for 100% then you're going to have to go to the secret warp room sooner or later. It's not like you have to get every gem in order, and to begin with I don't think 100% completion is something most people are going to attempt right away on their first playthrough of the game.

I really don't appreciate Crash much at all. Sorry to anyone who grew up with him, I played the games a bit back then too, although I always prefered Spyro.

I only think Crash 3 is cool. Because it's a very stylish game. They really nailed the aesthetic in that one.
