>Western musicians were just freelancers who got paid peanuts while Japanese musicians were mostly working professionally in the music industry. They knew how and were given the time to tune Yamaha chips to fit their purposes.
Is this supposed to be a joke? Literally the inverse, lmao. Most of the Jap musicians in the industry were retards who never worked with music professionally in their lives, while in the West, most of the time, they were former members in a band or studied music at prestigious universities. Takayuki Nakamura is a shining example of this, who had an "interest" in music, but A) Never did it professionally before video games, and B) Didn't have a higher education in the field in it other than high school. That's why they routinely plagiarized a ton of their music. Nakamura was an exception though.
City Pop, the genre that arrived in Japan in the late 70's, routinely stole Western music, and was one of the primary driving inspirations in video game music in Japan at the time, so it's no surprise that they did this so often, honestly.

I think the composer for Super Mario Bros is a far bigger con-man, if I do say so myself.
