You need to get familiar with x86 assembly first. Then my main tools for reverse-engineering are IDA 5, NekoProject 2 with debugger, and an hex editor.
For PC-98 hardware (BIOS, I/O ports, graphics...) I use Japanese websites like https://radioc.web.fc2.com or http://software.aufheben.info/contents.html?contents_key=oohpc_menu

I've noticed that No-Intro has recently added a bunch of homebrews from SMS Power to their Master System catalogue and I want to shout out Pac-Man Master Museum. It's a compilation of games including Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Man Plus and the hypothetical Ms. Pac-Man Plus, featuring arcade-accurate ghost behavior, difficulty settings and optional fast speed mode. A very enjoyable way to play the games on a horizontal screen.

Wondering if anyone's ever replaced the .xa files in the oddly musicless US version of Robo-Pit 2 with the Japanese version? Apparently they're just dummy files in the US version, and it's like they cheaped out on music licensing weirdly, not that a license to publish a game shouldn't come with music. Seems like an easy romhack that should've been done, people dig customising robots.

I believe that organizer was working on one within the editor itself, although I can't confirm it since I only saw it once but it did get posted either in here on /v/ a few months ago.

Did this myself, only just swapping the SND directory with the Jap version and remaking the iso does nothing, you just get 'insert a Playstation disc'. Likely some subchannel data that identifies it as one in a data track it now lacks. There's YT videos of the US version with music and the uploader's all 'i added it ;)'. Fuckos.

Any cool Mega Drive/Mega CD hacks and brews come out lately?
I've been out of the loop since 2015, or whenever Overdrive II was released, and I wanna fill my flash cart up.
Been checking out the last few years SHC entries, and while there's still some cool stuff there, they seem to have shifted toward Sonic Adventure and PC hacks nowadays.

most are usually mode 1 that just use the cd for music like Fantasia and Outrun.
There is Crazy Sonic CD but its mostly a joke hack but it does show they know how to use the asic.

some basic demos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYYeGy47UJE

There is a road rash hack that uses the Sega CD CPU the make the framerate a bit better. Its called ROAD_RASH_3_Improvement_v1.04_Special. It did technically work for me using a flash cart.

>>12031345
Some people get offended because of some pretty bad translations out there, I think it would be ok to use is as a sort of place holder. I think people using mobile apps to translate know what they are not getting the best translation. Just have a warning on the title screen if you do one.

Anonymous No.12036068 [Report]

the group have all the tools to extract and insert text supposedly for the last 10 years..

translators should not be a hold up in this age.
machine translation > no translation at all.

The goal should be:
1. make the game playable in english (using machine translation)
2. rewrite it after to be translated more accurately.
