Tomb Raider: Legend feels like the end of an era.
The later games felt a bit too serious after this, even Anniversary and Underworld. Personally, I blame the Nolan Batman movies and their place in the zeitgeist at the time.

Not technically relevant but close enough. I'm playing tr1 what do I do? I'm all outta ideas.

Kill the bear with long range pistol shots and climb up the platforms?

It took me until Palace Midas to get truly filtered by TR1 and I haven't gone back to it as I started playing other things.

Qualopec is fairly intuitive, though.

The remaster collection is the perfect occasion to give it another go.

I enjoyed this game at the time but it really lacks the sense of adventure from the original games and just feels like a Prince of Persia clone with the platforming

Hate Legend. It had everything I hate about bad TR levels put into one package and sprinkled with combat QTE's. Anniversary is the good one.

What about those stupid one hit death trap walls?

It starts pretty fine but the quality only goes down as you progress. Original is a much stronger game.

Dumb retard. Legend was the beginning of an era. Angel of Darkness was the actual end

For me, Underworld was the last old-style TR. You can identify it by how she side-jumps when holding a ledge. If it's snappy then it's a fun old game. If it's dangling mo-cap then it's one of the dark & brooding titles.

Fucking emo spirit infects everything.

I thought the game was super fun, but the story is fucking awful, and not in a "video game stories don't matter and are mostly bad anyway" kind of awful, awful in the just straight up bad writing kind of awful. The characters were fun, though. That doesn't matter, though, because what's actually important is the gameplay itself is kinda shit. The platforming is basically proto-Uncharted, though satisfying. The puzzles, on the other hand, are all very braindead simple. Literally kindergarten tier shit. I found classic Tomb Raider to be cryptic at times, but at least it required you to explore and be a little coordinated. Most of this game is just physics puzzles. Also, the driving sections really wear out their welcome. It's a solid, SOLID 5/10 game. Literally middle of the road, the only way you'd like it is if you like Lara and just want more of her. To anyone else, this game is completely mediocre in every sense of the word. The only improvement is the shooting.

Egypt filtered me. TR1 is so goddamn long, by that point, it just gets kind of boring. The platforming is incredibly fun, though. I bought the remastered collection on sale last month, but haven't played it. I might do a replay of it and actually finish it this time, and I might just use the cheat code for all the weapons because FUCK the combat in this game. It can go do an acrobatic pirouette off an overpass.
