i played through goldeneye last year and found it beyond playable. It's fun and challenging with extra objectives on higher difficulties.

Cannot possibly fathom what could be wrong with Mario Kart 64 other than the graphics. Game plays just fine, great even.

They are playing it on emulators/modern consoles without the intended control and on HD screen with lots of artifacts and input lag.

https://www.cbr.com/throwback-n64-games-unplayable-aged-badly/
Let's see:
>Yoshi's Story is too easy and short, btw I don't mention that the game has an optional hard mode and the game is obviously made for score attack runs
>Space Station has crashes (probably talking about the expansion pak bug) and a glitch that makes it impossible to 100%, the person that made the article also said the game aged fine so why its there?
>MK64 aged badly because Mario Kart World exists (what) and later games have better tracks.
>Excitebike 64 is repetitive and has bad controls even if it has a decent amount of modes for a racing game, and bad controls wtf
>Turok 1 is bad on N64 because muh fog and bad controls (lol), at leasts it says the Nightdive remaster is good.
>Jet Force Gemini has awful controls? I never got this complaint either, I thought the game controls fine and I beat the N64 version last year.
>Doom 64 is too dark, has a weak ost and focus too much on puzzles there before is the weakeat Doom in the series... lol
>Conker is repetitive, has awkward controls, platforming and bad camera... I've seen these complaints a lot lately but never agreed on them except when you have to jump from rope to rope in bats tower & olé and the lava surf section, also."just watch a lets play instead" lol
>Expected Goldeneye 007 complaints (blocky graphics, aiming and framerate), funny it mentions that Perfect Dark should be played instead despite the later having worse performance on the console.
Shit article

thanks for the resume, anon.
controller complains are kind of true, n64 games can control terribly without a n64 stick™, specially for the kind of aiming n64 games do of moving the reticle instead of the whole camera.
the n64 stick is odd because the beginning of the travel is way more sensitive than as the end. so little movements are required but that is hard to do on modern sticks because of the consistent sensitivity.

shes right about goldeneye. no one wants to play an fps where you cant move and aim at the same time. mario kart is fine.

>the n64 stick is odd because the beginning of the travel is way more sensitive than as the end
Nonsense. The N64 just has a fucking massive outer deadzone that covers like a third of the entire stick range, unlike modern sticks with a small inner deadzone. There is no acceleration curve as the N64 stick is entirely digital and the slits for the optical sensor are evenly spaced, using the same tech you'd find in an ancient ball mouse.
N64 sticks also only measure movement, not position. Unlike modern sticks which measure position, not movement.

Ball mouses don't have optical sensors, you fucking retard.

All games on the N64 are unplayable, with those atrocious fucking framerates. We were forced to play those games because our parents bought the console for us and we had to make do.

Goldeneye, sure. **I** can still play because it's from my generation and I'm not kidding myself but a zoomer who pretends that they can stomach sub-15fps is lying.

Mario Kart still plays fine, so does Yoshi story since it's a literal 2d game.

audio only works for 1 racer
bananas have inconsistent spinout timing
also make you drive faster for some reason when you hold a bunch of them behind you
awful screen crunch in battle mode
no vs mode
red shells have horrible tracking and more often than not hit rails or walls and disappear instead of seeking the racer in front of you

She ain't wrong. Mostly.

Mario Kart 64 is fine if overly simple compared to more modern entries. GoldenEye handles like a shopping trolley mounted on frozen bricks.

>I can beat it. It's not hard. Filtered. Buzzword. I'm a faggot.

It's not a hard. I've got a sizable N64 collection on original hardware. The problem is that it feels like fucking trash. Even high end play looks like slow, retarded dogshit. The game was balanced around that. The crippled control scheme stemming from the time period and the worst controller ever fucking made (buy a Horipad Mini instead).

Plenty of games aged gracefully. Paper Mario, Yoshi's Story, Super Mario 64, F-Zero X, Mischief Makers, Kirby 64, Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, Pokemon Stadium series (if you have all the bullshit), and more. A lot of stuff has aged roughly and is overly slow, an issue that's exacerbated by the shitty frame rates.

Part of the problem comes from the fact that cunts, especially the troglodytes on this board, can't accept that one of the 6 games they owned as a kid which they paid for by cleaning the yard of the neighbor who slipped a finger in their ass hasn't fucking held up. Games are fucked now, but some things have improved.

People aren't being told what stuff actually holds up. They're fed the childhood bullshit from people who can't accept that they peaked in Highschool whilst also being at the bottom rung at Highschool.

Having got a summercart64 to do some testing while I repair n64 controllers, I've had the opportunity to also play some games I haven't in years or would never bother to try otherwise. I play a ton of playstation and saturn, the latter being one of my most played consoles this past decade. The big problem with 64 games isn't just the framerate, it's how uneven the framerate is. I was trying out Winback, a favorite of mine on PS2 which runs at a locked 60fps, the 64 one feels terrible to play. The framerate is constantly jumping around from a high teens to a mid 20s and never really holding anything. It's not a looker on the console by any means but it feels horrible to play.

I'm curious how the new anal log 64's performance mode thing is going to work to improve this.

While The Sims and Bejeweled did indeed release in 2000, Dr. Mario and Mario paint were out in the 90's. Both were widely played and enjoyed by women, Tetris too to an extent although not as much as Dr. Mario.

Regardless, the amount of women who insinuate that they were serious videogamers back in the 80s-2000s is a fraction of those who actually did play games back then. And even with that, most who did dropped that shit like a hotpotato when they reached middle school and were more concerned with stereotypical tween/teenage girl shit.
