Nintendo 64 Thread
Crazy to think that this console is gonna be 30 years old next year, I still remember renting games from blockbuster with my lunch money or reading magazines and finding cool games I wanted to try out.
I think I'll play some of the horror-themed games it has for October (RE2, Nightmare Creatures, Doom 64, etc..)

Really? I played some Jet Force Gemini and Ocarina of Time recently on mine and was having a blast, was impressed with them by comparison of today's games. Made it further in both games than I did as a kid, plan to beat them both.

Don't tell anyone else, but I actually prefer RE2 on N64 to PS1 because it gives you the option of direct analog control and higher resolutions with the expansion pak. It's also got a pretty cute little randomizer mode.
Still have fond memories of laying on my stomach on a carpeted floor in front of a 13" little Emerson CRT, playing my N64 as a kid. My first console, so I'll always have a soft spot for it despite all its drawbacks.

RE2 on N64 isn't a bad port and those who insist that it is are probably butthurt that Angel Studios was able to cram both discs into a single 64MB cartridge against all odds, with the only things missing being one of the FMVs (which is practically identical to another one anyway) and the Extreme Battle mode.

Framerate in Rare games is all over the place. 3D N64 games in general can be slow because of the slow RAM. You probably didn’t notice as a kid. Diddy Kong Racing has a performance patch which is stable at 30fps. Hopefully more games will get that.

On December 31st, 1999, my Dad’s company had a party at one of their offices. My brother and I packed our n64 and found a conference room with a TV. We played 99 stock smash (thought we’d unlock Mewtwo) and unlimited fountain drinks. It was a blast.

I later found out my parent’s were scared shitless of Y2K and wanted to be around a bunch of people in case things went south, kek.

It was a lifetime ago. I remember since I was unable to afford the console, I'd just visit my friends to play the games on the system. I even bought these Treasure-made games just to bring over to their places to enjoy, as I was a fan of the developers. It was some real great times playing games in those days. While not as relevant these days, it still has so much amazing that was on the system. Sounds like you're going to have some great fun too.

On topic, I'm revisiting the Scooby-Doo licensed game (Classic Creep Capers) as a Halloween themed event for my kids (and to finally cross this off my backlog). It has a ton of charm, but holy shit, it might have one of the worst cameras I've dealt with on the N64. Not like the retarded complaints about the camera in better games (SM64, for example). I think the devs of CCC were actually incapable of coding a solution to a real mechanical issue: stick orientation does not reset when transitioning through the fixed camera angel unless you let go entirely or pause. Makes the chase segments disorienting to navigate.

OWNED:
Super Mario 64
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Blast Corps

PLANNING TO BUY:
Zelda: Majora's Mask
Nightmare Creatures
Star Wars Shadows of the Empire
Gauntlet64
Body Harvest

DO NOT WANT:
Goldeneye 007
WaveRace64
Pilotwings64
StarFox
Cruisin' USA

Some of these 'do not want' are okay games but I've already played them to death (Goldeneye and Pilotwings) or I played them a few times and didn't enjoy them.

you have literally no argument to make. you can make no real, genuine comparisons. any comparison you choose to make will undoubtedly be cherry picked from the ton of bad modern games, while you deliberately avoid games that you actually know to be good. additionally, your primary criticisms will be brainrot /pol/ buzzwords, or exceedingly reductive "-slop"isms (like "rollslop" or "parryslop" for example).

again, if you genuinely cant find any modern games fun, and you're stuck on n64, you have my pity. i also pity those around you, because your autistic hyperfixations and limitations undoubtedly manifest in other areas of your life too, affecting other people.

i loved my time with the n64. im just amazed that how some people never grew up and are somehow delusional enough to think that its somehow the pinnacle of gaming. im just amazed that they somehow cant recognize the advancements/improvements made in gaming since then, and that they somehow cant find any enjoyment in anything since then. i had my fun, and i cherish that, but i can recognize primitive trash with the culmination of experiences that i've had since growing up. its wild how something like that can trigger you people so much.

Does everything that people do in life that you don't understand, make you this upset? Don't you think it's kind of axiomatic to be so aloof and above it all when it's you that can't understand the other person.

i dont understand, am i upset or am i aloof? you dont seem to even know. its pretty funny that you think im upset though. your reading comprehension must be pretty abysmal if thats what you got from it. the "im not the one thats mad/triggered, its you!" play is pretty funny though. why are you so focused on me as a person, instead of actually trying to present an argument for how the n64 is the pinnacle of gaming and way better than modern stuff? is it because to dont have an argument, and in fact you're just a soulless troll trying to instigate a flamewar?

Fair enough. Sounds like you enjoy couch co-op. I find Gameboy titles to be particularly weak compared to other offerings. If you like the Gameboy, you might want to check out the Wonderswan. It's not as good, but still does have some absolute bangers

It's surprisingly decent for what it is. I had it as a kid, but I couldn't handle anything that made me anxious back then. Completing the game as an adult, I'm disappointed that no one ever made another game like this for the IP. Seems like a major missed opportunity.

>the knight guy
He fucked me up as a kid. Not only does he have the scariest appearances in the game, but for some reason, he's easily the hardest of the monsters to run away from. One of my few gripes with the game is that the difficulty of the first mystery is way harder than the rest of the game.
