Why do boomers like you think anyone wants to hear you piss and shit and cry in every thread about how everybody needs to shut up? At the very least you should stop breathing forever

Pretty sure half of the people here can solder to some degree. Which is why you can't just buy a broken console to save money anymore. It costs basically the same because everyone has all their fucking tools and is ready to fix it up

I learned basic soldering in school and there's not exactly advanced soldering because it's not that difficult. It's honestly less difficult than that Operation game as long as you're able to follow instructions.

You yourself know how to solder. Or at least you will after you read this sentence: Obtain cheap supplies, set up good ventilation, apply hot soldering iron and solder from a spool to metal bits you intend to join together, mess around until it looks right, don't breathe the fumes. There now you're about as good at soldering as I am. Soldering WELL is another matter but you probably don't need that level of skill to adequately complete some basic modding job like this.

I tried to mod my psx back in the day and somehow the pcb caught on fire while soldering

Get tools with good temperature control and the right tips.
Read up on it or watch a video.
Practice it with the right heat and you're set. I do like 666F and dont find much of a need to adjust.

After you know what you're doing and practice its easy as fuck.

Oh yeah also if you're not a euro-cuck get the lead based solder. You're not going to be eating it are you?

Majority of retro systems don't require soldering to install an ODE. In fact, I think the only ones that do are the PSX, and some types of Gamecube ODEs.

Yes. If you don't know how to solder you're either too stupid or subjective life experiences kept you from learning. Those are the only two options.

Jtaging a 360 and whatnot is probably the worst retro mod, but still only an afternoon of work.

Because the disk drives were made by other companies, except for Sony consoles. PS2 Slim's drive is so integrated with the rest of the board that creating ODEs for it is virtually impossible.

i'm glad most of the replies itt are "yes, everyone knows how to solder," but most of the time i hear about mods it's someone paying a modder to do it for them. i heard an electrician say he had a guy for mods.

I'm sure I can learn but I never had to solder anything so I never needed to acquire the skill.

Kek

I've done some soldering. Practice a little first. Last time I screwed up a bass guitar lol. But it's okay because it wasn't mine.

If I had money to throw around I'd learn to solder. Obviously I don't want to risk ruining my consoles

if you want to be in the retrogaming space, it's a base skill.

>I can't solder. Do all you motherfuckers know how to solder?
It's a pretty basic skill (if you aren't doing tiny SM stuff), like servicing your car, hanging a picture frame on your wall, assembling a PC, etc.

I'd pay somebody, because I'm kinda hopeless at soldering. I took an electronics class in high school, aced all the written stuff but got like a C mainly because my soldering was so bad. My hands aren't steady, and I can never seem to get the temperature right, it's always too hot and burns shit or too cold to make a good join. And I usually burn myself along the way. I guess some people are just not cut out for delicate manual tasks,
(I gave up on electronics and went into coding instead)

Now I'm remembering the last time I tried to solder anything, it was a few years ago with pair of headphones I really liked that needed the wire replaced, I ruined 'em.
