We need to make a game about the fat, creepy old man from Addams Family, and it's going to be a top-down shooter about fighting aliens, and the aliens were clearly designed by Japanese guys.

Uncle Fester was always the favorite Addams Family character for me and my family and friends.
I never saw this game as a kid or I would have bought it or at least rented it.

more like they got some bizarre request/demand from Sunsoft of America and just slapped something together with existing or lightly modified BM code. Blaster Master Zero even has a take on Fester's whip in at least one of the games

this game was surreal kinojank. The combo of topdown shooting with those pseudo 3D first person interiors was fire. Reminds me of jurassic park on snes which was a bomb as well. need to replay those fuckers and complete them.

Play the European version of Fester's Quest. Sunsoft updated the game so you can shoot through walls, meaning the sewers and hedges are less bullshit because the projectiles don't just disappear.

The NTSC version is better. People who want to shoot through walls and get rid of the power downs are missing the whole point. If your shots can't hit your target, you're supposed to adapt and power down when necessary.
PAL and romhacked versions are prime "you didn't beat the game" material.

The game isn't even that hard or complicated either.

I've never played the American version in my life, because I'm European. When AVGN made the episode complaining that the game was an annoying button-masher I didn't understand why until years later where people pointed out that there was a difference.

It is kinda surprising that Fester of all people was the marketable one. He's the focus of the first two movies and got his own action game fighting aliens.

Both Pugsley and Gomez got their own games too (both on NES as well), and you wouldn't star a girl back then, so short of Thing, every marketable character got their own game

In the end Fester is probably the one that got the better game though

The one with Gomez is one of the firsts NES games I emulated back in 98-99 with Nesticle. I kinda have nostalgia for it because of that, I've never beaten it but I'd love to revisit it one of these days.

Because Fester is the real comedic relief, like Bender in Futurama or like Donkey in Shrek etc, he's the mascot. The other characters were just morbid/psychotic, not really funny

there is no way this ip wasnt shoehorned into an already existing concept right? the setting makes no sense whatsoever for the addams family. why are all the family members in random houses instead of the mansion? there is no mansion. office buildings? im guessing basically the entire world layout was just repurposed on the fly.
