I think it peaked so hard during this era that its never even came close to this high ever again. After that it was mostly just a sharp decline. The Smackdown vs Raw games or whatever else this series name has been was alright but still a far cry imo from the N64 days of wrestling.
I am not even really sure why either since I am still a wrestling fan today. I think it could be because the late 90s for me was peak wrestling and all my friends were equally into it so I had a lot of fun playing the games with them. So obviously anything after would be inferior to those days. Although I do remember some of the early 00s Smackdown games felt a lot faster or more arcade like for lack of a better way to put it. Something that kind of clashes with the idea of wrestling itself if you can immediately no sell a finisher like you are the Ultimate Warrior.
