I never got into console warring in the day, it's weird and foreign to me. I was never like divided up by marketing or kids at school over console games, I only barely remember a few rare throwaway lines between other kids in other classes and grades.
I sometimes saw the sports kids get into heated arguments, and on odd occasion, actual fights, but only about actual sports and pro players, not videogames, not even sports videogames.
>born 92
>older brothers have NES
>pretty cool, play a lot
>especially loved Batman, Gremlins 2, Wizards & Warriors, SMB3, and Fester's Quest
>also played Duck Hunt a lot because I liked the novelty of the Zapper
>also PC with some various games
>one day dad gets an N64
>holy fuck
>a Super Mario game in full 3D
>it's so cool
>and holy shit
>A FUCKING JAMES BOND 3D SHOOTING GAME
>holy balls, it's so badass
That was the only other FPS game I had ever seen besides Quake 2 and Terminator Future Shock on PC. I'd only see Doom 2 a lot later and still it lives rent free in my head to this day.
I missed out on SNES and Genesis, until one day in the late 90s, my brother showed me emulators for them on PC.
>fuck me
>all these cool games I had never played before
>and they're just "free"
>the graphics and sound are amazing too
>legit think stuff like Dracula X and Super Metroid has better grafics than N64 games
Aside from trying all these NES and GB games I had also missed out on before, emulators was how I got into Pokรฉmania. I thought it was a fun game, me and all my friends were hooked on emulating Pokรฉmon before those games were actually launched here. I also remember that same brother getting a Playstation for cheap from a friend in the early 2000s, so I got to see a lot of those games too.
