Fairly sure the screen utility on OP scales everything to real size based on your monitor. If you can get a cheap Mister it's pretty cool, but last I checked the clones had issues with the user port which are normally used to hook up real controllers, look into that if it matters to you.

I've been playing retro games on my new3ds for over a year. I'm satisfied with it, but I'm intrigued by screen filters, which it isn't powerful enough to run.

The top screen does have a sort of scanline effect due to the number of horizontal pixels being squished together (it's 800x240 after all), so I wonder if that does anything to help emulate the look of sprites on a CRT.

You have to put on your autism glasses, there's a guy on youtube that have all the consoles entire libraries in videos. I did go through them and made prelim lists that I then cut down further with chatgpt to catch any shovelware or just bad games. My snes library went full library -> 605 games -> 265 games. Done this with every system I'm interested in. Then I make even smaller curated lists so you actually play and don't just scroll. For me 20-30 games per console is the limit.

I just go through a top 100/200 roms list and grab everything. Then I further trim it down with personalized playlists of my top 10 games or something.

I feel like the hardest part when you've curated every system, you then have to sift through which system have the best version of a game and move things around. And then separate lists for your less powerful chinkhelds and the pc. And then the larger archive on the nas where you have the whole playstation 10 library as well even if can't be emulated until 2045 but since all the western goverments has gone full totalitarian mode and will close down the internet soon it's best to be safe and horde everything.

Honestly I found that my tastes are a bit unique so that even a top 100 from some random YouTuber can't be trusted to cover the bases I like. With several thousand games on some platforms and a dozen or more major genres, if they have a different genre preference I'm going to be out of luck. No shortcuts to finding the games you like.

34xx audio is crap. Seemingly the same cheap tinny mono of the 34/35xxSP, only it distorts on some higher notes where these two wouldn't, cause of the grill I imagine. Great colorful screen, bit stiff and fake diagonal prone d-pad that improves a lot from just taping the contacts exactly in half, great buttons, shoulders are rubber membrane based but a little weird in that pressing them from some spots doesn't actuate them.

CubeXX's audio caught me off guard and is by far the best I've had on sub-$100, almost doesn't feel down firing. Speakers were labelled as 35xxH's to give others a baseline. Not quite as vibrant a screen as 34xx but still above average, hits the exact same scaling and screen estate as the 34xx on GBA. Fantastic shape and comfort. Sticks suffer from some snapping at software level and there's no fix, also the cheapest I've had with some really rough movement as if scraping against something inside, replaced it with hall sticks (mine might have been faulty as haven't heard this complaint yet, though the pair suffering the same problem is weird). Face buttons are on the harder side (a guy here swapped membranes and claimed it helped, I'm fine with them), same rubber membrane based shoulders but they actuate easier from any angle, d-pad is not floating like the Arc's but unlike the 360's it actually works fine (406H is not floating either if you're wondering).

Don't do it exactly in half. I did that and it would cause me to have to push excessively in one direction to get it to register at all. Slightly away from the half way point it what did it for me to get rid of the false diagonals and still make it usable in general.

All cards have extra sectors to make up for the damaged ones. Cheaper the cards the more they rely on extra sectors to work. The more expensive ones rely less on extra sectors.
It is like processor waffers that get tested and graded according to the quality of their sectors, they get binned (sorted) from scrap to premium quality.

Some companies use scrap for their ROM SD cards, some get these generic sd cards that are on the edge of tolerance acceptance, the lower of the lower, they are not dead but they are not reliable either, they are the Celeron of Inter waffers (while the same die produces i3 i5 and i7 chips, sorted by performance in post production testing)

The Kioxia card is a reliable "generic" card, it is a standard of quality, it is not the fastest, but it is the good ol' reliable one, like cheap slow but sturdy Sandisk Ultra.

RG35XX-H was my first which I got early last year and I've been using it here and there without issues. I initially got it because I wanted to dip my toes in the handheld emulators without breaking the bank waiting on a Steam Deck 2. Over time I've grown to not really care for it as much, especially when my intention was to use it for PS1 gaming but the shoulder buttons are pretty much unusable for anything serious outside of anything that doesn't frequently use L2/R2. I 3D printed a grip which made the ergonomics somewhat better but I was really struggling in Mega Man Legends in particular because I constantly had to push or hold it and as soon as I jumped on PC with my DualSense all the hand cramping went away.

Got the Trimui Smart Pro a few months later as a gift for someone since people were raving about it and it's held up just fine, but it still feels like cheap Chinesium and like it will snap or melt any moment with how hot it gets. It's so close to being a solid choice.

Got the RG35XX-SP late last year and while I love the thing when I went to open it up to do the button mod two of the plastic posts holding in the screws immediately snapped even though I put next to no pressure turning them and they crumbled to dust. Pretty much got a lemon. Because the damage was done to the screen side end of the shell I now basically have e-waste thanks to that since they don't sell shells and I can only imagine how awful it is to put the screen in a new one. I picked up another one like six months later and that one is fine and survived turning the screws for the mod.

Got the RG34XX around the same time as the second SP and it's my favorite of the lot. I've used it for multiple games so far, it's extremely nostalgic, but without doing the tape mod I can't recommend it. It truly needs the tape mod or it's borderline unusable, the false diagonals are truly horrendous and it's the worst I've ever seen on anything. Besides that I've had no issues with it.

The stock CPU governors are insanely shit. They spool up the frequency to near max, even for some basic-bitch SNES emulation.
IIRC CrossMix has 'ondemand' with frequency interval limits for the governors.

Quality seems fine but of course you can only know how it is in a few months. The bad thing is that there are basically only three angles you can position it in. Anything in-between and it will snap into one of those pre-defined angles eventually.
My guess is that with this they tried to make the hinge stronger somehow, I just wish there was one more angle between completely flat and the one before that. That would be perfect.
