I rediscovered my joy for gaming
I bought this on a whim during the previous STEAM sale, and I've been digging into the trove of games it offers, and it's rekindled my interest. I've been struggling, fighting with myself to play games, and finding myself disinterested or just bored playing most games, even retro ones these last few years, but diving into this collection was a spiritual awakening. I have a newfound joy and zest for gaming.
Atari, you will be missed.
Thanks for reading my blogpost.

It's a great collection but it's missing some big games to be a definitive Atari collection. Battlezone particularly comes to mind. I also wish they did a Computer Space recreation since it's a pretty significant game that isn't easily playable in any real way. Some other games like Star Wars and ESB would be cool but obviously aren't gonna happen. Outside that, everything else is great.

I looked at that and it had some good games but it's missing a lot.
>Pitfall
>Pitfall 2
Those are Activision games so IDK if that's why they aren't included. Pitfall 2 I find to be one of the most underrated games of all time, I personally consider that one of the best retro games ever made. Really remarkable actually, so simple yet a compelling exploration/adventure and one of the most impressive games on the system. Playing that in 1984 must have been absolutely mind blowing.

Pitfall on the Genesis was also a decent follow-up, I'd say. Kind of overlooked, but a worth addition to the series, especially after Super Pitfall almost destroyed the franchise.

What's really bad is that there is no clear continuation of the Pitfall theme as far as I know
>Simple exploration, realistic animal enemies
>Face actually sort of realistic hazards like falling, alligators, snakes, bats, etc.
>See how far you can get through a surprisingly challenging cave or jungle
All of this actually made the game feel more immersive than it should have been. Tomb Raider I think carried this on sort-of, at least the original one. Games don't need xtreem enemies and boobslop to be great.

The convenience of not having to fiddle with emulators and experiment with a dozen different compiled roms to get a 5 minute game to play, is out-weighed by the benefit of click-and-go.

i really like the new atari compilation, really feels more like an interactive documentary rather than a compilation of roms you could have gotten for free. still really hate that there's dlc but i hope more companies take note and add more behind the scenes/documentary-esque features to their compilations moving forward
Any other game packages that are worth it on Steam?

It feels nice diving into the back history of classic gaming, back when arcades were more relevant and graphics were blobular collections of pixels that were formed from imagination.

The same thing happened for me with the Genesis collection on Switch. That game actually sparked my love for pre-PSX retro, including Atari 2600 games. I've been meaning to pick this collection up, although I've heard paddle games don't really work the way they should. I'm glad you're loving games again, anon.
Slightly unrelated, do you guys have any recs for other big retro compilations? I've got the SNK 40th anniversary collection on Steam, Genesis Classics on Switch, Midway Treasures on PS2 and Taito Legends on PS2 as well. I'd highly rec all of them. What are some other great ones?
