Is emulating PS1 games really that intensive?
I upgraded my PC, I was able to emulate most PS2 games just fine. Downloaded Duckstation on my new PC to play MediEvil but it starting to lag like crazy on the pumpkin levels, like unplayable levels, it ran fine before. I have a 1080 TI and a I7-7700K, that should be enough right? I'm not using any enhancements and my settings should be in order, I went over everything

PSX and PCSX2 are much better. Though had to jump through a few hoops to make sure everything was downloaded correctly.
PSX even let me run modded games, like Legend of Dragoon, and FF7. Both heavily modded now and run without lag. Well mostly, when fighting Phoenix it will sometimes lag, but that's the only issue I've had.
Have nearly 200 ps1 and ps2 games and have had no issues.

What OS? Your code might be compiled for a different setup and thus you might lose out on some efficiency somewhere. I can emulate the PS1 on my old Thinkpad T520 with the built in HD 3000 GPU.

Sounds like the compiled version you're using is hitting some math routines that become emulated or something.

PSX games run perfectly well on my RPF2 (with shaders if you're into that), and some of them almost run, but not very well, on my MMP, so there's your cutoff. Any PC built in the last 25 years should have no problem.

Is the actual emulation speed going down or is it the in-game framerate? Because plenty of PS1 games still have heavy framerate dips regardless of how beefy your PC is, because the emulator is still emulating the PS1's CPU speeds. Check the actual emulation speed at the bottom of the emulator. If it's 100%, the emulator is working as intended. You can overclock it in the Duckstation menu, but it will likely cause a lot of unintended glitches and timing issues.

Not trying to shit on OP but this is really obvious stuff, I'm surprised only one other poster has brought this up. I guess this board really is full of browns and zoomies.

Let's see:
- Development abandoned since 2007
- Laughably inaccurate emulation
- Gaping security holes that allow specially crafted ROMs to run arbitrary code on your PC and do whatever the fuck they want with it
- Written in x86 assembly, making it impossible to port to non-x86 platforms without a complete rewrite
There's no reason to use ZSNES unless you need it for ROMhacks that take advantage of its flaws, or you're literally emulating on a 90s PC and can't run anything better. Even if you're just nostalgic for its interface, ZMZ exists.

Duckstations purpose for existence is to emulate PS1 hardware as closely as possible. If a game performed poorly on a real PS1, that's how it will perform on Duckstation.

If you don't want console accuracy, use literally any other emulator.

Try the PCSX ReARMed core on Retroarch. It works smoothly even on an n4000 mobile cpu. This is the bottom of the barrel. If this fails consider seppuku.

This wouldn't have happened if you stuck with Windows 7.

Do you have drivers for your shit? You should able to run 20 psx games at once.

I already figured out the problem, it was a Windows 10 update that adds a cool new feature that makes games run like shit if you connect a controller

>pirate ESU updates
You don't need to pirate the updates themselves, just activate the 3 year commercial ESU with MAS, you don't even need an MS account or anything
If you want security updates until 2032 you need to switch to IoT LTSC 2021 though (which you can also activate with MAS)

Why do people here base their entire personality around being old and retarded? I dont understand.
People on /vr/ at like its a competition to see how bitter and old you can be when most of these niggers are probably in their late 20s or some shit.
You arent some le based boomer for sticking to zsnes, you're just dumb.

I usually do not go above 3x for psx games, unless it's something like tomb raider where seeing faraway details helps.

People here are miserable and resentful, so they've developed an extreme form of contrarianism as a constant effort to spite the world
The average user here will build a house out of lead and asbestos because others tell them not to

if you ran the same game in both emulators you would never ever ever in a 1000 years be able to tell the difference. the fucking ps1 has been solved for a long time except for a handful of games out of thousands that no one would ever fucking boot up. you guys are beyond fucking retarded

kek byuu is such a schizo for spouting this. There's never been a single proven instance of an snes rom that had malware embedded in it.

I can reliably use duckstation on my 15 years old laptop.
Check your settings again.
Anonymous No.12121094 [Report]
set it back 2 default. then change one thing at a time, if it doesnt make it better change it back and try something else. repeat until necessary and it runs well. you basically need to change the nvidia setting or put it to hardware or software and leave the rest alone

MediEvil had libcrypt protection which would kick in at the start of some levels and a standard copier couldn't pick it up from the disc, so it going tits up at the start of a level would seem to fit.

Try and find a modded rom that has fixed it, or a different region version of the game. Not PAL though as that definitely had it. Any PC can run a psx emu though, I had no trouble with VGS in 2001!

I don't know where OP gets his games from, but a Redump dump is 100% identical to the original disc in every way even including useless data. They're very autistic about dumps being perfect in every way
Grab your games on Myrient, they have all of the Redump games (they also have No-Intro for cartridge based games)

Its kind of pointless unles syoua re stuck for space or money in which case fair enough, a lot of the stuff for the PS1 that was cool used peripherals like fishing reels, steering wheels, light guns and dance mats and the games were designed to be played with the supplied controlers, stuff like dialshocks. Without thse you are getting a stunted experience, a bit like playing an Outrun or Pole Position arcade rom on Mame without the wheel or pedals and thinking its not very good. By the time you go and get the working peripheral conters it would ahev been easier just to get a PS1, which are pretty cheap and easy to keep runing. I've notong against emulation and use it a lot for working with niche 8 bit stuff and remaking old wierd media but it's something you should move past to teh OG hardware while you can still get it reasonably easily and cheaply, although I get some people just don;t have space and are stuck in one room in a rental in their early 20s.
