If I'm just playing shmups and nothing that requires more than 3 or 4 buttons usually is there any reason to not get one of these for $80
Seems like the cheapest way to get an arcade stick with all Seimitsu parts

the neo geo x sticks suck.

Are they different from the normal ones? No Seimitsu parts or something?

implying you can even find one of these for $80

yeah, they're different
these aren't arcade seimetsu parts, it's some kind of mushy buttons on membrane; at the very least, it doesn't go "click" or even feel like an original NG stick
also IIRC the USB part doesn't work on PC for whatever reason, there's guide to rewire it for DB15 but really, why bother? buy an original stick + a USB converter.
there's better choices for retro sticks, especially the HORI stuff. if you can get it, virtua stick pro (the kind with the green buttons) for saturn or a namco stick for ps1. I have several HORI PS1 sticks I'm pleased with.

also looking at ebay prices I see at least one actual NG stick for the price of one of those shitty X sticks.

Just get something like the 8bitdo or mayflash arcade stick, and then change the parts to seimitsu yourself
You can even just buy a shitty used 360 joystick and swap the parts
Anonymous No.12122247 [Report]
just get the budget mayflash and install the stick/buttons you want or start watching marketplace for used sticks

What's wrong with making a stick again?

Hard to do for an underage tard whose only tools are a pair of safety scissors and a jar of yummy paste.

Well, to play non-AES games you're going to need to get a converter. Which will cost more.

Then you've got the fact that the lever is not really a standard Seimitsu arcade lever. It's a LS-22, which is more similar to the kind of levers that Hori and Agetec put in their products throughout the 90s. It has short-hinge microswitches and a shorter shaft than an LS-32, more similar to an LS-56 but not really that close to that one either.

The buttons are around 24mm and use Tokai MM9-2 keyswitches (same as Seimitsu 24mm buttons).

I think a Mayflash F500 V2 that has been modded with Seimitsu parts is a better choice. It's bigger, heavier, has built in turbo, is more easily fixed (and those Tokai switches do have a tendency to break after heavy use) and is tested to have very low latency.

It's kind of hard to beat the F500 V2 for price/performance. It's kind of boring to own because it's not rare or expensive, but it just does almost everything right.
