My fucking god did this game's quality drop off a cliff in the last three levels.

But with a box like that, how could you resist?

Nah, that would be Casing the Joint. The actual cleaning is boring, especially the part with the masks.
Anonymous No.12128379 [Report]
I have a soft spot for Masks even though it's a bad mission. I like how it has a red moon while raining.
Anonymous No.12128459 [Report]
kidnap is the single worst mission in the game, but
>use the city map twice
>kidnap recylces the lost city from t1, but with all the interesting stuff striped out
>casing/masks uses the same map yet again

Last mission is appropriately large and complex. Better than how the first game ended.

Soulforge is good.

I've been playing nothing but Thief for 2 months straight now. First GoldtoDark, then Thief 2. Now I'm bathing in FMs. Having a blast, I've been sleeping on this for way too long. NOBODY pushes Benny around.

Weird take. Casing is mostly empty with hardly anything to do.

I just liked exploring the level with all the secret passages. The next mission doesn't have this novelty in exploration, so even though it's supposed to be more interesting because of increased challenge, I wasn't very interested.
Anonymous No.12137108 [Report]
The last level is fine. I dislike the reuse of multiple levels, however.

If the box looks interesting it's worth checking out, and if it's a bust its not a big deal. That's how it used to be done!
Anonymous No.12140468 [Report]

Its pretty obvious why exploring Masks isnt as fun. But thats less the fault of Masks itself, and more the fault of the devs deciding to make Casing and Masks a 2 parter at all.
Anonymous No.12142162 [Report] >>12144479
Eidos mandated that Thief 2 should have that many missions. That's the reason there's so much recycling, with Casing, Courier, and Kidnap.

I disagree, it's quite good and the climax being an ultralarge monstrosity of a level is a fitting and satisfying cap to the tone of the Metal Age.

I will play whatever games I choose and you cannot do anything about it. Keep your whining and hurt feelings to yourself.

Courier is honestly the worst of the three for me. Entire premise feels like what would have been a pre-mission cutscene in most other cases.
Anonymous No.12144702 [Report]

It would be fine if they mixed things up a bit, like give you access to different houses that were closed in the first city mission.
But yeah, they had no time for that, since they were closed right after the game's release. And then the same happened with Ion Storm and Thief 3... Is it some sort of curse?

Karras' voice gets super annoying after hearing it on every surveillance device. Sometimes the voice samples overlap.

Taffers, I need your help. The last few fms I played were mid, please recommend a good one, preferably some pre-ND obscure kino.
Anonymous No.12146686 [Report]

It mixes things up by focusing on intelligence gathering and having detection be an instant failure. I can't even remember how the mission plays once you actually do it for real.

It was kinda cool to see more of the city, but IIRC it's just the Ambush level rehashed.

I feel like there are some legitimate complaints to be levelled against Soulforge, but I personally do agree that it's severely underrated as a finale and is probably the best level in Thief 2's latter half in-spite of its flaws.
Anonymous No.12150710 [Report] >>12151403
What really makes Soulforge the best final level in the trilogy is that it tests all of the game mechanics that the player has used so far in the series. Anyone who liked playing in the Mr Sandman play style their first time can attest to the fact that Soulforge was a difficulty cliff, because you could not just remove every threat and then explore freely. You had to manage your resources, selectively remove threats, and actually use stealth to get past enemies in the absence of a universal ability to get rid of them. It's the first time in the series that a level has made you play it like a stealth game, not because of forced ghosting or alarm restrictions, but because it's too hard to play it otherwise.
You are not there to win a fair fight. You are there to cheat, by facing an army with overwhelming firepower, and not letting them use a single bit of it. Stealth is the act of winning by not letting your opponent play.

Last level filtered me, harrrrd. I save scummed the ever loving shit out of it. I was playing it on expert because I wanted all the mission objectives. Probably made the encounters and damage output crazy-hard toward the end, though.

I agree, it's kind of fantastic from that angle. I still think it's kind of repetitive in some ways and maybe a little over-long, but it really makes you play as a sneaky guy who needs to not get seen.
