Honest thoughts on Xbox?

The Xbox has a huge advantage of being developed around DirectX. Unlike PC, Xbox uses fixed/standard hardware that the game can be specifically optimized for.

We don't need 20 Xbox threads at the same time

anything third party is pretty much guaranteed to run and look better on xbox.

If you grew up with just a PS2 this is an amazing console to get and will reignite your love for the generation. You should dive deep into it, get on Insignia, mod your box, push it to the limit and see some of your favorite PS2 games from a new light.

most of my memories with xbox are with the 360, but i got an original xbox a few years ago and its cool. me and my brother played both halos on legendary splitscreen and we were system-linking it with the series x for pvp in time splitters fp lol.

From a developer's perspective: it's good. Easy to develop.
From a profit perspective: it was very bad for Microsoft.
From a technology perspective: it's not good, as it can't do many things years ahead of its time, like the PS2.
I wish Xbox had never entered the video game market. Picking a generic PC GPU and CPU, putting them in a custom case, and calling it a video game console is blasphemous.

Dead or Alive 2 on the Xbox is a remake released in 2004 while the DC version was released in 1999 for a 5.5th generation console... while the PS2 version is just a shitty port of the same game.

HL 2 run and look very bad with a lot of visual degradation due the port. Not worth comparing with the PC version.
Doom 3 and Riddick are dark corridor games where you can barely see anything lol. They also suffer from performance issues and severe visual degradation.

look at shit like DoA3 or how large halo maps were and tell me it would run and look the same on a PS2.
the xbox was significantly more powerful than the PS2 or gamecube so it makes sense MOST games look prettier on it in some way.
DoA2 ultimate wouldn't run on a PS2 which is why it got a DC port with shitty aliasing.

Rumble roses, Tekken 5 and SC 3 exist and are all amazing looking games as well.
Talking about big maps? Shadow of the Colossus has a huge one, and overall, it's a more impressive game than anything on Xbox.

it was pretty cool. it was genuinely fun and exciting to see a new competitor hit the scene, and it had some pretty cool exclusives and console exclusives to boot. even stuff like morrorwind which was obviously better on pc, was really cool to have access to for a kid that didn't have a good pc. also a great edgy y2k aesthetic.

Can't you play most of the games on modern Xboxes? With enhancements even? If so, I guess that's why there is no incentive to develop an emulator. Outside of research and fun, of course.

The original Xbox had this certain feeling to it. Microsoft (2000/XP era), early 2000s America, mature, Sega (DC era), (extreme) sports, 'anti-weeaboo' Japanese games, online multiplayer and PC influences. A combination of all that.
MS succeeded in giving it a soul on their first try.

And it ended up ruining a lot of PC ports of the time because developers also thought it was just a standard PC.
The original Xbox ships with a Geforce 3-based GPU, which has some Geforce-specific features that some games utilize. A notable example is the shadows in Splinter Cell.
Unfortunately when it came time to do PC ports, a lot of devs just couldn't be arsed to replace the Geforce-only code with generic equivalents which is why Splinter Cell 1 on PC has broken shadows on anything that's not a Geforce 2, 3 or 4. Some Xbox-to-PC ports like MGS2 even refused to boot up at all on non-GF cards without additional patching due to a complete lack of testing.

Right is DOA 2 Ultimate, a remakester for Xbox released in 2004. The left games came out in 2000.

Also, GameCube had better performance for Burnout and Sonic games, so idk about that.
