If you want a 3.5" vertical, I'd say yes go for the Pro. The ergonomics are actually much better than the Plus believe it or not. Has to do with the shoulder inputs and their height positioned relative to the face buttons and dpad, as well as the system's overall height. Much more comfortable to hold. The cardinal snapping and output curve on these XX device's analogs is really, REALLY bad and makes the sticks pointless. I tried playing Medal of Honor with the dual analog control layout on my 40XX-H and it's impossible to do any sort of fine adjustment. Literally unplayable. The only reason to get a 3.5" vertical anyway is to do one-handed JRPG/Pokemon gaming, so just get the Plus version. Also keep in mind that the face buttons are a lot smaller AND crammed together on all these devices, it's a really bad experience for any sort of fast-paced game unless you have literal child hands.

I think I'm PROBABLY going to get the RP6 for the cheaper price, the symmetrical sticks, and the OLED screen. I kinda wish it had the HUGE battery the Konkr has and the better Gen 3 chip, though. (The 8 Gen 2 in the RP6 is good enough for most PS2 and Switch though, from what I've seen and heard.) The Konkr looks like it has better ergonomics too, but I can just get the grip for the RP6.

I've been out of the loop on specs. DS is pretty weak so I assume if I wanted to play things up to PS2 RG DS would be too weak for that right? Thor on the other hand apparently can't emulate 3DS well and has screen issues. tbqh lads the RP6 announcement kind of chaps my ass because - aside from the glass front - it was exactly what I wanted when I bought the RP5. After the RP4, I was hoping and praying for Retroid to make something shaped like a Vita with enough power (and chip compatibility) to play Dreamcast in Flycast with the Per-Pixel setting enabled. I just assumed great color choices would always be a given with Retroid.

Then the 5 was unveiled, and it was this fucked up middleground where it was kinda there but not really. It wasn't as Vita shaped as I would've liked... but, it was kind of round? Maybe this was the closest they were ever going to get? And on paper the chip seemed likely to fulfill both the compatability and power requirement for the Per-pixel setting in Flycast. After much deliberation and profound sadness over the boring and ugly color options white was actually alright and could be made to look great with transparent color backplate + controls swap, but you know how fast white plastic often yellows, I went ahead with the purchase of a black one anyways thinking they would never go any closer to the Vita shape I wanted.

Then it turned out the chip in the RP5 actually didn't have quite enough power for that Flycast setting, much to my surprise. I really want to buy a thor and ive kind of gotten over the full glass screen since it looks nice as fuck in every youtube vid but i think the main problem is that its a shitty clamshell.
it doesn't full close and it leaves a very noticeable gap but even worse is that the top screen rests on a raised island in the center of the bottom shell, it rests on 2 little rubber nubs.
there's no bracing for any of the edges or corners for the top screen and the island is relatively small, what happens when you fold it up and toss it in your bag or onto your bed and it bounces off and hits the floor? i feel like over time it's going to crack or bend.

I have had a couple of metal handhelds, I still have my backlit GBC mod in a BoxyPixel chassis. It's definitely something I'd be okay with and it does feel sturdy and premium. But from the OG GameBoy to the Switch 2 and all of the myriad competitors to Nintendo's throne in between, handheld gaming has always been synonymous with plastic, so that's what I'd prefer. Still, as I say, metal would still be acceptable, I'd have bit if it was only that, but more important is the triggers. Part of the issue is that DS and 3DS hardware is degrading.
Screens are yellowing, rubber pads peeling off, hinges and shoulder buttons cracking, and there's shit like the TN/IPS screen lottery on 3DS and it not being ideal for DS games because of the awkward scale factor.

For the longevity of the DS scene there needs to be a good aftermarket solution, even if it's just Taki Udon getting replacement screens for DSi / XL or something.
