pac man, galaga, space invaders and street fighter 2 have a solid argument as well if were just going off pure influence and legacy.

I know this is just to draw argumentative responses but you're right. Donkey Kong is the greatest. It was one of the islands in the seas of space games and it was one of the least abstract non-space games around. It's clear what's going on in the game. Compare with zoo-keeper's square zoo or even the weird ghost maze of Pac-Man (which is another contender). The clearly readable scenario of a man climbing scaffolding to combat an ape gave Donkey Kong a broad appeal and a reach that not many could exceed. And of those that did (Pac-Man), they were simply worse games.

Star wars arcade cabinet, space invaders, galazians, tempest, pac man. outrun. 1942, ghosts and goblins, double dragnon, operation wolf, time crisis. super hang on, spy hunter,battlezone, asteroids, galga, defender all make donkey knong look like the shit it is and was back then. I alwats hated donkey kong it was pretty ignored in my arcade as well, asteroids even got more play. The ,ost populat machines were pole position, star wars, space invaders and battlezone, donkey kong was pretty jame compared to them both in value for money and wow factor
