Classic games which still hold up well. Breakout turning 50 next year is almost weird to think about, but it really is a very old game now, and it's one of the timeless ones. I'll still break out Arkanoid on occasion.

Thanks for reminding of Quake's, Duke Nukem 3D's, and Diablo's anniversaries, I'll have to remember those and play some on their days.

OP only put Diablo because some retailers had it on December 31st 1996. It wasn't officially released everywhere until a few days later in January 1997

I, as a Zoomer at some point, will experience this, and I'm scared Pokémon Sun and Moon is 10 years old my god

Must suck to be a zoomer to not have experienced the technological jumps.

I know, I assumed he was going by Brevik's claims. Still, the game is almost 30, what a long time, I remember being a little kid playing it when it was new, and I thought it was one of the coolest fucking things I had ever seen.
I still think that.

Do you think any games released today will still be talked about in 30 years?

This movie made me cry like a bitch, and it's impossible to find now that Netflix delisted it.

Maybe, honestly, I did not see a big jump from PS4 to PS5, but we could see AI games, so it's still a jump

If you're not a pirate by now, then you deserve the suffering that you get. These corporations do not respect you nor the creators who make this stuff, so you should not respect them.

Those were kind of ok as Pokémon games go, but by then I had already lowered my standard for those. Of course, GameFreak themselves have lowered their own standards far further since, good god.

If you've never given Gen 1 a go before, give it a whirl sometime, if nothing else just for getting to know what the games were like when they started. They really hold up pretty well, still, IMO.
My personal favorite ended up being Gen 3, and I remember feeling like Gen 4 started taking a number of steps back which I didn't like, not to the point of ruination, but definitely lesser.

Wasn't it just absolutely wild? The late 1980s to the early 2000s was such an insane renaissance for videogames in not just technology but also design and art. The sheer progression and variety was like a long cascade of innovations.

LLM tech might just be interesting for if it's used for game functionality, like for character and creature behavior, but it brings nothing else to the table IMO.
PS5 really wasn't a leap, no. I liked my PS3 quite a lot, it was very well worth it for me, but it feels like AAA games haven't just hit most technological plateaus (and regrettably, some regressions), but like they've grown crazy stagnant since the late 2010s.
Anonymous No.12156663 [Report]
My PS4 was just BARELY worth it in comparison to the PS3, and I've largely used it for older games, some which are even retro. Lotta old games on that PS3 as well, but I would actually get new games for the thing back in those days and I'd find ones I really liked. I don't get that so much these days.

Maybe AAA gaming will dig itself out of the slump some day, maybe not, but indies at least pick up some of the slack, and there's a colossal backlog of older games worth checking out, so I don't feel gloomy about it.
I have SO many cool games left that I still need to check out.

It's crazy that we're now seeing 50-year anniversaries of games. Gaming is still a very young medium, but still. Half a century ago, people were playing arcade cabinets.
