They're interesting games for sure, especially if you dig into the history. They were going to be a lot bigger and ambitious and actually started development pretty early on in the systems life. Don't think there's much of an explanation for why they turned out so weirdly unfinished, especially given the nearly 3 years of dev time, but it's cool to look at and wonder what could've been.

Kind of but also not really. LoD has all the original levels plus a couple new ones and the 2 campaigns from the original, as well as 2 new campaigns(more like 1 and a bonus, Henry is a shitty hide n go seek minigame where you replay all the levels with the enemies and locked doors removed and its only like 10 minutes long.). However LoD massively redesigned every single level that returned from the original release, and I would argue for the worse. Most of them are just shrunken down and shorter, but some are so radically different they may as well be brand new. Even if you are playing the 2 old campaigns on LoD, they're still the new level designs.
If anyone wants to play these games I would say play both campaigns on the original Castlevania 64, and then only play Cornels campaign on LoD as that will take you through all of the new levels as well as the ones that got redesigned. And then play Henry if you're really bored or something. There is absolutely no reason to play as Reinhardt or Carrie on LoD when you can experience the different versions of their levels on 64 instead.
Idk why it's so hard to find info on the specific differences of the two games online, I played both in full just to figure it out for myself. Never saw a single soul mention that the levels were redesigned or any other major differences just that "Its better and more finished so play LoD". If anything I would actually say LoD is worse. Also saw some talk of the game having a real time clock, it most certainly does not lmao so just goes to show nobody knows what the fuck they're talking about.
