Your universe has no meaning to them. They will not try to understand. They want to modernize, they need “space,” they will make crumpled bills and loose change with your nostalgic childhood relics…

My dad loves to be like no shit someone paid XX amount for that card/game/figure? AND you have it? And likes to see how much profit I would have if I sold it because I never buy anything over retail. He thinks I’m like magic in spotting value.

I mean, it was your parents who bought them in the first place.

I'm too old to care about that. He shouldn't have agreed to sell them if he didn't want to sell them. His parents definitely aren't looking that shit up and you wouldn't sell games for bullshit inflated online prices at a yard sale anyways. They mostly avoided selling the games on his list except 1 which was probably an accident. That's more than I'd probably have expected my parents to do.

Sell all your childhood things for cheap, or give for free
You don't want to be called a plastic hoarder. Right, /vr/?

>Quit dragging your feet, Billy!
>Put all of your old Nintendo tapes and boxes and players in this trash bag so I can dump them at Goodwill!
>b-but MOOOMM!!
>no "buts" Billy, that old junk is just cluttering up the house!
>Unlike these commemorative plates, Hummel figures, antique glassware, and Elvis memorabilia! These things are TRUE INVESTMENTS and will be worth big money one day - you'll thank me later!
Flash forward to even just 10 years ago:
>that one bag of those old games would be worth their weight in gold
>those "will be worth big money one day" Boomer collectibles just sit on auction sites with zero interest, lucky if you can sell them in bulk lots for $100 before resorting to dumping them off at a pawn shop for pocket change
How did boomers get it so very wrong?

Technically the parents are wrong, but the redditor should have just said to not sell anything and avoid confusion

But if they gave the games to OP then they're his now

I guess the question will be whether or not Gen Alpha will care about collectibles from prior gens. So far Gen X and Millennial collectibles seem to be holding up pretty will in terms of popularity with at the very least Gen Z.

Yeah, the parents are ignorant, but the kid is fucking retarded for handing them thousands of dollars in valuables to sell and expecting them not to fuck it up. What the hell was he thinking?
Anonymous No.12161219 [Report]
Fair enough. Honestly I'll sell my parents' junk for 10$ or best offer.

>know that you have some games which are worth a lot of money
>agree to let people who know nothing about games sell some of said games, unsupervised
>...at a yard sale
Lost or not, what was he thinking? It wasn't like they were pressuring him. He should have just said no.

I grew up playing the SNES and N64 with my dad, my mom also played with us sometimes. All my older systems are still at the living room and my dad still plays them from time to time.

Sometimes I wish my folks were like that. This site would call them "based" for basically never giving anything made after the 80's a chance and completely writing off vidya, but even at my boomer age I never got over the feeling of feeling distant from them since they never tried any of the films or vidya I'm into.

It's not like they gave his shit away without asking. He said they could sell them they just didn't look into the online prices but that's dumb anyways because he wouldn't have sold anything at a yard sale for online prices. He could have just said he didn't want to sell them, there's nothing he said here indicating that wasn't an option.

I don't care about your post OP but that guy was a retard for trusting his parents. In their minds all of it is the same and interchangeable. They likely couldn't even be bothered to name them properly.

Based parents. You don't deserve to be paid for owning old junk.

Possession is nine-tenths of the law is loosely applicable here. If he wanted strict requirements he should have sit them down and say it'll take time to look them up online and no matter what don't sell them for under that price. They would have to look the prices up online on their own time. OP is technically in the right and I don't think he's an asshole but he's shit out of luck for getting his money back. At least until he repays them the hundreds of thousands of dollars they gave him over the years.

He's 19. Pretty early to learn a very valuable lesson: don't trust your parents.

I wouldn't be mad if the parents sold it to some kid that would actually play them, but we all know it's going to collectors and speculators.

>He could have just said he didn't want to sell them, there's nothing he said here indicating that wasn't an option
In fact it sounds like it was just the opposite, that they explicitly asked if it would be OK. But yes, this story is ragebait, because I do not believe that somebody who is aware of and cares about the value of their old games would not only sell them at a common yard sale, but also allow somebody else who knows fuckall about said games to handle the sale. Even if he gave a list, it's still a yard sale, and to them, it's just other items alongside a bunch of other things they're trying to sell.
Sounds like either ragebait or a bizarre self-insert fetish story.
