It's like philosophy, you should start with the Ancient Greeks. But in this case the Ancient Greeks are Japanese NES games.

Dragon Warrior Monsters was an early love for me, I don’t think I ever finished it as a kid, and as an adult I hear people say it gets really tough so it may not be a great jumping off point, but what I did play back then, I loved.

Also, Chrono Trigger - but this could set your expectations for other jarpigs too high.

It's an NES game but there are remakes available for it on newer platforms but they go by the name "Dragon Quest I" instead of Dragon Warrior. You can just emulate the NES version or the remakes, I don't know anywhere you can purchase a Dragon Warrior/Quest I game.
It is the single most influential JRPG though, pretty much all other JRPGs are derivative of it in some way, like Tolkien and D&D for the WRPG or the genre as a whole.

They’re very entry-level. Someone who has never played JRPGs isn’t going to start with one from 20-30 years ago and suddenly love the genre, you and I both know the truth.

Rance X is the best JRPG ever made, he needs to slowly ease into eroge if he wants to experience the peak of the medium.

Chrono Trigger is the perfect baby's RPGs.
Above average in everything but is perfectly serviceable. Not a masterpiece like some of the cumguzzlers online said though.
I won't suggest Persona 5 or the persona games because it's more of a creature-collector high school sim
FF4 is a great intro as well since it is pretty purely linear without too many quirkiness that the hardcore JRPGs have, although boss fights can be pretty difficult unless you are knowledgeable at certain stuff

I was going to give a real and earnest response where I axtually asked questions about what the OP likes about gideo games and what they were interested in (instead of just randomly shilling crap like the rest of the thread) but if you look at the image used by the OP and check it on the archive you can see that this is a fake thread made by a schizo and not a real question.

you were probably just too young. NTA i beat the game as a 10 year old the first time. There is a system where you get a higher + the more you breed the same mons that increases their stats. It's essentially just finding something with heal and getting a physical skill on your attacker, or strong breath skill on something with magic. Most of the time as a kid Grizzly was so strong you can beat the game with them. Once I ran two +2 Grizzlies and a unicorn all the way to the optional final boss.

You can go deeper. The 80s Action RPG boom with Xanadu, Hydlide, etc.

And even before that, there was an early 80s PC RPG boom in Japan, but unless you REALLY are deep into it and know the language, this is impossible to get into.

Overall, the idea of DQ being the first Japanese RPG is kind of a myth. It was a codifier of what nowadays is considered an archetypal JRPG, but Japan had a lot of role-playing games long before that.
