Well the thread exists now.
May as well make it about GBA RPGs
Anyone else ever play Oriental Blue?
It's a spin off of the Far East of Eden series and the splits in the scenario and how character recruitment work reminds me of the early Star Ocean games in structure, though the actual gameplay is obviously very Dragon Quest.

Yes.
Very easy to miss stuff, be it companion recruitment triggers or quests vanishing, cause things become unaccessible.
Still interesting

The only thing I felt fell under "very easy to miss" would be Kaguya's recruitment condition, as the trigger for taking her route over the default that recruits Kenshin Koishi is both nonsensical and only open in a very small window
You have to go to the Noble District in Daito and talk to one random-ass NPC who alternates what they say on a 15 min timer where one thing they say keeps you on the default route and the other puts you on the Kaguya route
If she didn't show up in the game's opening, I would have never known she even existed or searched the GameFAQs message boards looking for the answer on how to get her.

The SNES to gba ports like Mario world and link to the past made it worthy. Every system has shovelware shit. The best system of all time is 70% shovelware

Almost every jrpg from the time has its definitive edition on the GBA if it got a port. Many of the classic FF games are simply better on GBA.

>the best thing about the GBA was playing games I had already played, but at lower resolution with a worse color palette and sound
doubtful

Anyway, there's a pretty good selection of Action RPGs on the GBA between the Summon Night: Swordcraft Story games, the Mega Man Battle Network games, and the Igavanias (if you want to count those)

Random battles with too high encounter rate (even in towns) kill it for me.

>even in towns
Town singular.
In Daito you get random encounters because the plot is about the bad guys trying to sink that city into the Makai.
When you first start the game, there's weak enemies on the connecting roads between the four districts, but not inside the districts themselves.
Then as you progress the districts start getting fucked up so first the farming district and then the temple district start getting enemies too.
