Uematsu is more kino but Mitsuda is peak comfy.
But when I discovered Corridors of Time was not wholly original it kinda soured my opinion on him.
That said still had lots of great tracks, like Secret of the Forest, Wind Scene, Memories of Green, Peaceful Days, Schala's theme

Also his work on Inazuma Eleven is memorable too (there are many others like Xeno series and Chrono Cross)

Chrono Cross is one of the greatest soundtracks of all time and Uematsu is extremely fucking overrated and mainly just rips off prog rock most of the time, he isn't more kino. If you want kino take a look at Hiroki Kikuta or Masashi Hamauzu for Square composers, they're way more experimental than Uematsu

I don't know, ripping off prog rock is pretty much what most JRPG composer does, Sakuraba does it alot
The exception is probably Mitsuda, Hamauzu, Shimomura and Sakimoto
Also Uematsu does alot of great atmospheric music not just the proggy battle themes

Not at all, he's rated fairly because Final Fantasy is a completely dogshit bottom of the barrel series outside of its music. Every single thing that makes it good or memorable is tied entirely to the music. If you have pretty much any other composer doing the soundtrack for Final Fantasy, that series does not become popular. With most other game composers, the series they worked on would lose a step with a different composer, but would still be able to stand on its own.

The only series that I can think was carried as hard by music was early Hitman.

I like his work for Shadow Hearts and Tsugunai Atonement more
