I'm tired of pretending like this isn't a top 3 DQ game

Are there decent dq games for the Snoy station? The remake doesn't seem interesting. First person battles are IMHO subpar to third person battles.

You're not going to like DQ then. XI fits your needs though.

Unfortunately so. Might wait for the 1 and 2 remake, but they do look shit compared to the original. Among the worst remakes I've ever saw.

I like JRPGs but I can't handle shitty writing on it's own, I am willing to tolerate it if the gameplay is really good.
So, my question, should I bother with playing the entire DQ series? I've played DQ1 (on my phone) it was fine but the grinding was too much at times but I played in small bursts. Worth it to go chronologically or specific parts or just give up?

I’ve only played a few DQ games, but theres no story hook and I drop them. FF is peak ADHD kino. You’re in a sky ship, now a dragon, now a submarine, now in you’re warped to another planet via meteorite. And that’s just FF5… it’s not even a well regarded in terms of story. Are DQ all kind of the same in terms of story and pacing? Are they all just town dungeon town with a silent protagonist?

Only DQ I ever got and it was shit. Well not really shit technically but just unbelievably boring and generic in all aspects. Story is so forgettable I never really knew whats happening because I just couldnt bring me to give a shit apart from a few cringey naruto tier anime moments that made me ashamed of owning this game, group is literally non existent and just a bunch of unnamed NPC meatshields essentially, the grind is soul crushing but also barely offering any reward since classes, spells, skillsystem and fights are barebones simplistic, the world atunes with the story in being forgettable as fuck.

The only thing I liked is how this pile of garbage sprayed liquid shit like a reverse helicopter porta potty over Pokemon in terms of graphics and just showed how far Gamefreak was with hgss

I loved it until I realised the main game is basically just a tutorial for the post game which is just crawling through boring randomly generated corridors and doing fetch quests for alchemy materials.
I still like it but I also hate how unrewarding it all feels, especially the ending.

Nocturne was pretty good for its time. Depends what era you grew up playing games. If you never plays PS1 and PS2 RPGs you probably won't like it and should just do SMT V instead. It's basically a reskin of Nocturne.

False. SMT IV and especially IV: Apocalypse are fantastic and worth playing even on handheld. Worst case you just emulate it though, if you have two screens and split them both with full screens for each it's awesome. I think you can do that, anyway - not positive, I never tried, but I can't see why it wouldn't be possible.

I own both on my 3DS and love them. Only thing that sucks is they got rid of DLC content, can't access the store now, so if I ever start a new file I can't use my extras, and they were nice. Lots of extra missions and the ability to level faster was nice for end-game.

the battle system is too slow for me, the sidequests/postgame are too grindy, and i don't care for crafting systems where your inventory gets filled with shit you'll never use, but it's still a solid game.

Tried a while back. Downloaded an emulator a while back and tried SMT4. It was aids. No towns because it's a shitty handheld. You click some text buttons to go to shops, then go into shitty dungeons on a tiny half screen because the 3DS is a gimmick that wants to put stuff on 2 screens for no reason. Would rather play a normal RPG on 1 big screen with full movement.

Yeah I don't even care about bad graphics, I just hate the split screen gimmick and the fact that everything is scaled back because of the limitation of the 3DS. Same with Nintendo switch. Couldn't even get Elden Ring until Nintendo Switch 2.

DQIX has full towns, actual shops, and dungeons. IDK why you're ITT sperging over a non-related game.

I gotta say, I agree with this. It's a strange comparison but DQ9 feels a lot like Legend of Mana to me where instead of being one bug story the game plays out as a series of short vignettes most of which are wonderful. I wish more RPGs took that approach.

It might be telling that my favorite DQ aside from 9 is 4 and my favorite FF by a pretty wide margin in 6.

I really need to replay it. It's definitely one of the games that really got me into JRPGs, and I put like 500 hours into it doing postgame shit. I even met up with some random weirdos at a mall to trade maps and do shit. It was really fun, but now that I have more experience with the series and the genre as a whole, I wonder if it still holds up.
