Chapters 3&4 are a little over a week old by now. What did you think of the new chapters? How has this affected fangames?
Are you making a fangame? Post progress!
New DR lore:
>Susie bleeds (maybe hint of hybrid)
>Monsters can open dark worlds (or maybe only Susie due to above)
>Dark Worlds are based on the person opening them so the same room can have a slightly different Dark World depending of who opens them
>Monsters can be revived in the Dark World but requires "Specific Darkness" (probably the person opening the world being close to them)
>Dark Worlds are already Darker than Dark, and opening a fountain inside a Dark World will give birth to a Titan
>Adults can enter Dark Worlds and get their own clothes
>>3782131>possible hint of hybridFull offence, but this is as dumb and as unsupported as the "Dess is actually human" theory.
>>3782210There is conflicting info on either or not monsters actually bleed in DR or if Susie is a special case
For all we know it could be true
>>3782131>Monsters can open dark worlds (or maybe only Susie due to above)To be fair, Ralsei stopped Berdly from opening the fountain in Chapter 2, so he thought it's a risk. Then there's Knight opening Neo Fountain on-screen. I think monster/human dichotomy is far less important this time around compared to Lightner/Darkner dichotomy.
Additionally:
Darkners know they are objects and do not distinguish their life in Dark and Light World. Dark Fountains only change Lightner perception
>>3782224>last spoilerI still don't like that point, I think it doesn't mesh with the first 2 chapters, or even chapter 4
Chapter 3 is the only odd one out really
>>3782131>It took 9 years for the Undertale community to realize bleeding and dusting on death are not mutually exclusive They have organs, they have hearts, they have blood, monster blood.
>>3782228UT lore specifically states monsters have no blood
We just didn't know if DR monsters had it or not or if its Susie only, since DR itself contradicts that
We do know DR monsters are more "meaty" than UT monsters though, the holiday house has a bathroom
>>3782234Show me the line where it specifically states they don't have blood. I hope it's not the "made of magic" line because they can still have blood if they're made of magic. Magic blood
>>3782225Fountains reflect the will of their creator, so I think that might be a TV World exclusive thing (as a side note really should've called it TV Land. It sounds way better)
>>3782228What about
>Does it hurt to be made of blood? That's in Deltarune and seems to be pretty damming evidence that monsters aren't supposed to bleed,
>>3782234>the holiday house has a bathroomThat's probably more to do with them living on the surface. Monsters in the underground ate magic food because they lacked a way to get real food, which is why they had no bathrooms. Lines of dialogue in UT suggest that they can digest physical food if needed, and would need bathrooms if they did. In DR the food is likely real physical food, which is why they all have bathrooms.
>>3782225I dunno, this twist actually cleared up one thing that was always bugging me - why Darkners are so nonchalant about Shit Squad closing their fountains? Their whole world is about to disappear, and they just go "Oh well, goodbye, it was nice knowing you". But now it makes complete sense.
>>3782213Doesnt noelle bleed too?
>>3782277That's more a visual effect from the thorn being reinserted than blood, we won't know until chapter 5 maybe
The dot isn't blood but rather a new soul growing inside noelle, the dot grows at the end of the chapter and is named "mainchara" in the files
>>3782255Humans arent just entirely made out of only blood, we have organs and shit, you could just argue that its just a dumb kid-monster with no idea of how humans are like and just asks kris about it out of curiosity for their anatomy
>>3782281that still implies that humans have blood and monsters don't
>>3782363This feels like it could belong in a "you're genocides" style meme
>>3782449cole... i remember our JUST ICE
Is "that" chapter 3 boss the hardest in either UT or DR?
>>3782452chapter 3 secret boss? I'd say yes, not even sans and Jevil felt that difficult
>>3782488shit would go much easier with a cooperative vessel like frisk
>>3782363>>3782449>>3782451yeah I think I went too hard on the "justice" thing, I will try to revise it to be more natural sounding once I redo chapter 1, might not just namedrop justice too much and just let things flow more naturally
Don't forget the fangames archive
https://rentry.org/mtt-fangames
So, now that we know approximately what the end goal is with Snowgrave in Deltarune, should we revise how we think about Weird Routes? I'm mostly thinking, a lot of ideas I see for Weird Routes are random destruction without a clear end goal; I'm thinking about Deltatraveler here and the stuff that prompts Kris to kill himself to stop you. I'm starting to think "Weird Routes" should only be done if they have a specific end goal.
If others agree, then should there be another term for little easter egg routes where specific actions cause an altered status quo for 1+ characters?
>>3782565for DRY1 at least I had an idea for the weird route
my original idea was that you needed to get near the end to get a piece of information that then you can bring into the normal route to get to the end, because otherwise you will get a bad end every time
that said you don't need to finish the weird route, just find this information, you can push through but thats optional content with a unique final boss
but I am unsure if I go with it or make each route its own thing completely separated
an alternative would be that you would get half of a code in normal route and half in weird to unlock a super boss
>>3782565>>3782567think it was either in the previous thread, or one of the recent yellow threads this was discussed a bit

>>3782363Deltarune Yellow | Spoiled World | True genocide run
>>3782452Just looking at that shit made me give up doing the secrets in chapter 3.Jevil is the upper limits of my skill. The ch 3 secret boss is Sans tier at least.
>>3782488What would Red be doing in the Deltarune universe? Is she still possessing a doll, or is she a disembodied ghost like Mettatton?
>>3782550You should really add the martlet's tits mod. I know its not a fangame, but its a really work intensive project done by an anon here. I think it belongs there.
>>3782452It's the only boss in either game that made me give up and minmax for it on my next playthrough. I don't think I needed the extra health from fighting everything to win, but I did need to hoard all my items for the fight to stand a chance.
Genuinely, Toby needs to do something about the rotating sword corridor attack, I'm positive the hitboxes on it are fucked up in some way, either they're too large or they're too misaligned with the sprites
>>3782565>So, now that we know approximately what the end goal is with Snowgrave in DeltaruneI'd say we still don't know enough to be certain, but whatever.
> I'm starting to think "Weird Routes" should only be done if they have a specific end goal.I'd say that applies to everything in your fangame. These things require planning and thought, you can't just half ass it and expect it to be good or you get all of UTY's writing problems.
As for weird routes in particular, I think what's most important is thematic relevance and the themes you're trying to cover. What message do you want to convey with it? How does it fit within the existing themes of the story? What are your characters' personalities and histories? The weird route should flow from those.
Deltarune is a meta fictional story about determinism and being a video game; Noelle is a girl with repressed trauma involving snow, a timid nature, a penchant for being easily suggestible, and a fascination with the macabre, specifically video game creepy pastas; Kris is a kid who knows he has no control over his life and hates that fact, and he also has repressed trauma deeply involved with Noelle's. Those things are what make the weird route what it is.
The reason DT's weird route sucks is because it doesn't follow close to those themes at all, and instead chooses to be an Undertale genocide route. Which doesn't work with Kris and Noelle. DRY's weird route (the one in the current build of the game) doesn't work because it forces Cole and Kanako into an arc meant for other characters. A proper weird route for them would progress and operate differently.
>If others agree, then should there be another term for little easter egg routes where specific actions cause an altered status quo for 1+ characters?I think weird route is a fitting term for the concept. It just means that things are getting weird, it doesn't require the inclusion of manipulation, mass murder, or rape allegories
>>3782622YOUR SHU IS TOO LONG
You anons think DRYanon should add a minor Tenna like NPC to Robotopia/The Clouds? Kanako does have that TV in her room and it would be a fun nod. Not major, just a background character.
>>3782637My crumby sprite edits do not belong next to entire fangames, I appreciate the support though. Itโs on GameBanana anyhow and itโs not violating their TOS (You can add explicit sex as long as itโs properly marked as containing it)
>>3782648I would like your crumby sprite edits to be next to my crumby pixel rpg. If for no other reason than convenience. We need to have mods there so that whenever the "UTY fixed ending mod" gets made it can be put in the mods section. Plus I don't want to deal with log in requirements or constantly req'ing catbox links.

>>3782546If you're really the dev, I want to say that you did some impressive work
I know working alone is BRUTAL
The basic routes are great so far.
Though I think you should reconsider getting rid of the genocide route for chapter 1, you could keep the scenes where Clover mercilessly beats up the Outlaws AFTER they give up, and then sends them to the superjail (dialog changes where the Darkners mention how brutal those takedowns were).
There shouldn't be any deaths in ch1 because realistically Kanako would never want to enter another world after that. On the other hand after the ch1 happy end she's determined to save more worlds, and (You) can corrupt that determination into JUSTICE
The Fox talisman should be mandatory for genocide because it allows you to BURN Darkners, completely destroying them in the process, but you should move this fight to the end of the chapter 1 if that's possible (allowing Kanako to use fire magic in ch2)
In chapter 2 Kanako should be to burn up basic enemies "because they are robots, not real living beings"
And chapter 3 should start the killing spree
At least that's my plebian opinion, Deltatroon Snow Grave works because you SLOWLY corrupt the deer girl
>>3782567for DRY2 i dont really have a weird route planned as much as straight up darkner genocide.
but it relies on the "illusion" of dark worlds being broken right away. cole and kanako learning that the darkners are just objects very early on into the first dark world. from there they twist it into "so its all pretend, right? nobody's getting hurt!"
the pot slowly boiling until the first lightner kill happens
my current plan is that if you fight for the first few battles before you gain access to lethal skills the guide NPC, after a short conversation, is forced to admit that they're all objects and arent 'real'. but before the guide NPC can properly explain cole and kanako smugly go "cool, we'll keep fighting then" and walk off.
>>3782565If kris wanted to commit suicide in weird run they wouldve done so earlier
>>3782635Skill issue noob
>>3782685There should be a separate third "Juandice clover" route that happens from doing the genocide route in chapter 1, basically kanako stops going to the dark worlds after ch1 and cole goes full uty geno mode on his own
>>3782685>DeltatroonTold on yourself a little too early
>>3782685I agree, at first I was kinda just making shit up as I went which is why chapter 1 is a bit directionless and kind of a copy of DR chapter 1, as well as going edgy with weird route because I just had no other ideas for it (which is why I didn't continue it to ch 2 since even I was unsatisfied with it)
but now I kinda know more what I actually want to do with it, talking to anons here, seeing feedback online and seeing where toby wants to take DR kinda made me reconsider the whole thing, so hopefully it will be better now when I rework chapter 1
Deltarune Hypothesis uploaded a new build
https://gamejolt.com/p/deltarune-hypothesis-content-update-1-yxtangry
someone is attempting a thread, the fool.
>>>/v/712751906
This is sort of a deltarune ch3&4 related question so spoilers i guess, so, given that ch3's dark world was all red and green since it was created by, and ch4 susie's dark world is way more ominous than the og church dark worlds, then, how would a dark world created by kanako be like? Its easy to believe that any dark worlds created by cole would be pretty cowboy-themed, but what about her?
>>3783616Probably embarassing.
>>3783616I think susie's dark world was the way it was, at least colorwise, because she is colorblind
>>3783643It's ironic how this picture had turned out to be more accurate than all the theorycrafting about neo dark worlds and "darker than dark".
>>3783068>Thread couldn't even hit bump limitThat's pretty sad, actually. Makes it more sad by the fact that there's more Deltarune discussion in this thread than UTY (let alone any fangames).
>>3783667Tell the devs to stop being lazy them cuz there just hasn't been as many updates besides
>>3783053In reality everyone is still in Deltarune mood, wait a few days so people can resume their projects
>>3783667i was going to have an update for DRY2 later today but i woke up and saw the thread get bumped off.
>>3783671just post it here then
>>3783674yeah i will, but less motivation now that im not on a timer so it might not be done today
>>3782637Archive guy here. I mentioned this in the "other place", but I decided against it because (a) it's not a fangame like you've said, and (b) it's precedence for people to ask me to expand scope and archive other thread OC, which I'd currently rather not. Also, for what it's worth, GameBanana didn't require me to login to download the mod.
>>3782648I feel bad not adding your work to the archive for now since I really respect how much effort you put into the mod and think it deserves attention. We'll see how things go down the line.
I said in the /v/ thread that I was going to play DRY last night. While I didn't because I was just too tired, I did start playing it today, and I'm writing notes as I go along. Stopping after I've fought Pennilton. There's a lot I want to say so far but I need to finish the chapter in case something I say is addressed by a later section. If I had more time I'd do it all today, but I promise I'm trying to get to it. I already have a lengthy write-up on what I think about Pennilton. I'll probably post my whole thoughts in a pastebin once I've finished the chapter and maybe played it a second time. I'm apprehending everything this playthrough and I'll either be violent or spare everything in a second.
>>3782565I mentioned this in another thread, but I've been brainstorming a take on Deltatraveler Yellow, and my idea for a weird route centres around different interpretations on what could be considered "just". Think of how UTY explored this somewhat with the genocide route, although definitely within the bounds of reason rather than genocide's disproportionate retribution. So far I only have one concrete idea for a world and how it would play out there, though.
In short I think these ideas align pretty well with what
>>3782642 said.
>>3782488Imagine the Dollssy game
>>3783669>Tell the devs to stop being lazy them cuz there just hasn't been as many updates besidesSince deltarune released I haven't made much progress with my fangame, at first it was because I was busy playing the game but now I get too distracted with the Deltarune threads, send help
>>3782567>>3782565so I have been thinking this past week and in last /v/ thread, and I think I will scrap the weird route for DRY1 completely
I will just implement some ideas I had for it (mainly gameplay related stuff like boss fights) into the regular route and make the game mostly linear (but your choices can change some things but the story will still progress mostly the same regardless)
>>3783910Unfortunate, but its your show. Something like the weird route is tough to pull off.
really hope the foxlace stuff makes it in. that stuff can really work as a "hook" for the rest of the game.
>>3783910Its a shame, the ideas tossed around in these threads were pretty cool, but if its too much to implement then it can't be avoided.
DRYanon2 here, quick update:
i have to rewrite how the party system works.
it shouldnt take much, fortunately. but it will take a little bit.
>>>/v/713000818
wait is this true? is rynoGG's team really rewriting deltatraveler cuz deltarune proved how wrong they were?
>>3784713i wouldn't be surprised, expect it to happen when chapter 5 comes out and proves them wrong in some way too
>my mod got 1.5k views and 50 downloads on GB alone
I used to promise myself if i was gonna be a degenerate i'd keep it to myself. I've committed a terrible sin and one day I will have to answer for this.
Also I'm waiting on someone to find that secret room I added.
>>3784774i want you to commit the same sin again with more of the female characters
yes i'm talking about ceroba
>>3784776I think Ceroba's slender body proportions are fine. She doesn't have the same personal appeal of sexually-naive top-heavy bird girl. Unless you have a specific suggestion. If I were to do anything with her I'd do the obvious idea, edit the two frames of upskirt when you knock her down (and I would NOT upload that to GB who's primary audience is children)
>>3784779eh fair enough, wouldn't want to force ya into doing something you have no creative vision in
>>3784713Honestly they shouldn't, even if they were wrong I thing it's better for them to stick to their course and actually finish their project instead of getting stuck in a loop of trying to reinvent themselves to fit Toby's vision.
Hanging around here because /v/'s jannies are having a melty over the mere existence of Deltarune threads. How are you all doing?
>>3784859That's irrelevant to fangame talk, if you just want to chat then go to /vg/
>>3784859Watching the threads get deleted, only for twice as many to pop up. Wish I could join in, abib banned me from /v/ alone for 24 hours.
I made a general on 8, if anyone wants to go over there without bumping this thread off the board, or otherwise getting banned for discussing video games on the video games board.
>>3784872I don't think anyone still active on /v/ is really using this board, let alone that site. It's just a couple of stragglers who are just announcing where they're bunkering down in the meantime (me included). Don't worry, this thread's not going to get bombarded by spergs.
>>3784859not a glorified chatroom pal, go over to /vg/ for that (granted, /utg/ isnt too good for that either)
here we've got
>fangame discussion between the weekly /v/ yellow threads (note: they'll probably get nuked with the current meltdown)>devanons (picrel)>wanting the justice cowboy and japanese fox monster to hug
>>3784878>hardmode anonHello, you can probably remove that. I totally gave up on that because UTY code is so unfun to work with and UTMT makes importing sprites a hellish nightmare. I could dump the totally unfinished clusterf*ck-because-it-was-my-first-project-ever data.win file if anyone was ever curious about that and wants to see some naturally terrible project management (still not as bad as Toby's code)
>>3784894wasn't there an anon that decompiled UTY into a GM2 project? can't you use that?
>>3784896I have that downloaded and I have worked with Gamemaker Studio 2, but I don't feel like starting over and also idk how to turn the .xyz files into .win or if it will be completely compatible with the UTY launcher. I do still think about that mod a lot and wish I could have finished it or at least gone somewhere with it. Learning to code totally changed how I see the world and mentally process things.
So do you anons develop like Toby?
Apparently I do. This is my exact setup, not just writing everything in one big txt file, but also doing all the art in ms paint and saving it as bmps, and even the exact same Windows 7 with the classic theme setup. I don't know whether this is a good or bad thing.
So, funny swede man is planning to stream UTY after Deltarune. Not only that, but he seems to be confused whether it's called Undertale Yellow or Deltarune Yellow, so if you guys play your cards right, you just might trick him into playing your game instead.
>>3785115DRY is still unfinished and in the middle of being reworked, so it's better if he doesn't play it yet
>>3785115might be best to just direct him to UTY.
>>3785115Don't try to trick him, that would just make the game look bad.
Also where are you getting this from?
>>3785117to further elaborate on why not for anyone dumb enough to not understand:
undertale yellow is the first full fangame that isnt a shitpost or repaint, a major streamer playing it will bring much more (positive) attention to the fangame scene that isnt part of the insane fanbase.
on the other hand deltarune yellow, a highly unfinished fangame thats a little rough around the edges. the streamer would eventually find out that he was tricked into playing it, that'd bring a lot of negative attention to the scene and further condemn us to the crazies.
even worse is that if it got out that someone from here tricked the streamer it'd probably spell the end for these threads.
>>3785123>>3785126Come on, I was just kidding.
>Also where are you getting this from?He said in the first chapter 3 stream he's going to do more of that type of content in the future, which I assumed was him hinting at UTY, and then in one of the recent streams he outright said he's going to look at some UT fangames and said that people were requesting UTY a lot. I wonder how he is going to play it, though, I doubt that he will go for Neutral so he will miss the Flowey fight.
>>3785128>I was just kidding.look man when you've been online long enough you eventually understand that some people are actually so fucking braindead that they would not only think something like that is a good idea, but would move to actually do it without a second thought.
>>3785128>he outright said he's going to look at some UT fangames>fangamesSo you're telling me I have a chance?
>>3785128Someone should send him a copy of the CATHARTIC build of Deltatraveler
>>3785148god no, keep him away from DT at any cost.
>>3785148>>3785149It might be ok if you preface it with a message saying that its basically a hyper realistic blood tier creepypasta and probably one of the worse fangames out there. Maybe throw in Undertale Battle Mode with it. Would be sunday stream material.
>>3785150Yeah, I explicitly meant it as "have him play this terrible game," not to pitch it as something good. I only know vinesauce man from clips but I know he's played a lot of garbage before
>>3785153Yeah, but Undertale and Deltarune are things he cares deeply about, so I'd rather see him play good stuff.
guys guys guys i think i found an undertale yellow reference in hammer of JUSTICE at 0:30
https://youtu.be/tBdLO8u-0L8&t=30
hear that shit? the first four notes of the uty justice leitmotif
Not only that, https://youtu.be/cFnbCM2NjYQ?si=4uU3pX10sLIxn0rY chapter 3 has a ceroba leitmotif too
>>3785164the uty justice theme was taken from the flowey justice soul segment
>>37851651. Really?
2. Also kinda odd that Deltarune has a random flowey leitmotif then if it isnt an uty reference
>>3785167If the song is about Dess I wouldn't be surprised since she seems to be the Flowey analogue of Undertale's parallel story.
That and Gerson lampshades Susie as Perseverance after you beat his boss fight.
So I wouldn't be surprised if other characters like him or Ralsei correspond to the other souls.
There goes the neighborhood.
>>3785390if anything happens that gets UT/DR banned off /vrpg/ too, at least there is the other place
for now just ignore them and hope they remain contained
>>3785403so far its been calm, I have hope that they'd learn to contain themselves
>>3785447If you're looking at the current thread everyone's talking about containing themselves. I'm sure it'll be fine.
>>3785489there's a janny on /v/ that's been recently going out the way to delete DT threads
so some anons decided to refuge on other boards, /vrpg/ being one of them
>>3785489Janny on /v/ began to crack down even on the stealthiest threads and ban people left and right, so I found an existing Deltarune thread at /vrpg/ and suggested going there. We are now slowly trying to rebuild.
>>3785495>>3785500>but Dalle and Claude both have an untouched thread right nowWe need another hack
>>3785532actually the claude threads were targeted for a while too because they are mostly laughing at the retarded AI, and the jeetjanny couldnt have any bad rep for AI.
What does /vrpg/ think of TS!Underswap
>>3785762its good, but suffers from being an AU fangame and being unfinished.
>>3785762Better than Yellow in many respects, except not being finished. It does the concept well by actually having original characters so the story isn't a blanket "Undertale again but the character designs are different"
>>3785762I greatly enjoyed my time with it. It has the potential to be way better than UTY and honestly the original UT. That said, it's unfinished and DR will be complete long before it is
So apparently someone is trying to make their own DRY chapter 3
>>3783910I had an idea for an item-based joke
if Cole's willing to eat non-food objects like his Undertale counterpart, it'd be really funny if he tried to make Kanako eat them and she freaked out about it, sort of like picrel
>>3785931Where are you getting this from?
>>3785931>gamemakerinteresting, is this from the UTY reddit? do people think that DRY won't be continued?
>>3785941>>3785942Yes it is from reddit, guess DRY anon is TAKING TOO LONG
I doubt this will go anywhere though, seems like a kid's first project
>>3785945>plot is suspiciously similar to chapter 3's>Villain talks like Spamton and TennaI wonder if Cole is working with the Outlaw too
>>3785933Well in DR the chalk already turns into Lightcandy, so really Cole is going to have a field day no matter what.
I'm pretty cure dark candy is stickers, sponge would probably become sponge cake or something cheese-like.
Something like a rock-shaped and rock-tasting rock that nevertheless is a consumable that heals Cole but damages Kanako could be funny.
>>3785947>you need to beat a minigame based on NES Zelda in order to unluck the shadow poncho>without it the fight outlaw at the end of chapter 3 is much harder
>>3785947There's already enough foreshadowing for something like that I wouldn't be surprised.
The opening cutscene is a guilt-induced dream.
>>3785966In DRY1 I don't think that's gonna happen. In this kid's DRY take I think it might.
>>3785945>Yes it is from redditI decided to check the UTY Reddit again since the last time I did was before the release of the new Deltarune chapters, it turns out that the Shu guy is still there and not only that he gave Shu a power up that puts him above Asgore and even ZENITH MARTLET
>>3786007>UTY reddit>Check it>See pic rel>instead of Dess going missing Kanako harnesses the power of crazy to kidnap Noelle across universes.Maybe she just takes UT Noelle but that's funny.

>>3786007What's the rank mean?
>>3786040literally power level ranks
https://www.reddit.com/r/UndertaleYellow/comments/1lf8u3c/uty_multiverse_power_ranking/
>>3785931I'd like to think that if there was a Tenna-version of kanako's TV on a kanako's house dark world, it would be extremely racist against cole because of all the things that it hears from chujin when nobody else is around
>>3786052(dont worry folks, we have enough battles to make sure this ningen will never see kanako again!)
>>3786052Its racist, but not in a hateful way, its just really bad about stereotypes since the only things it knows about humans are news reports, Chujin's racist kids' cartoons from the 30s, and the human equivelent of BET.
>>3786007I've seen people talk shit about Shu, but no one one here ever seems to mention Hunter (AKA Clover's dad). Any thoughts about him?
(Personally I've read his original comic, and he's definitely more powerful than Shu. Just that he has less appearances.)
>>3786062I was thinking that for its backstory, maybe it loved making chujin smile and be happy after seeing him work hard all day back when kanako wasnt born yet, and when kanako was born, they were both chujin and the tv's happiest days, as it felt successful finally seeing chujin so happy and hopeful, however, when cole entered the ketsukane family's lives, Chujin became way more miserable (you could also throw in a "dess going missing"-styled plot point that partially connects to chujin's newfound state of mind, something that the tv might not know much about, so the tv ends up reaching the wrong conclusion), throwing extended rants about cole and shit, thus, it thinks that cole is the main cause of chujin's suffering, and the tv decides that it must get rid of cole in order to make chujin happy, thus, there's enough nuance for pacifist clover to want to spare, and enough for juandice clover to decide that the TV is too dangerous to let it go unpunished, thus, refusing to let it come to whatever is the equivalent of DRY's castle town if theres even one
>>3786069Well, Hunter basically has the "could go juandice mode + rage boost + clover blast" aspect from clover (since clover couldve inherited it from their papa) while being wayy stronger than clover and frisk are, thus, theres an argument for him being genuinely op
>>3786042>Charles (suppressed)>Charles (full power)>Martlet (post training)>Zenith Martlet>Zenith Martlet (purple)>Captain Martlet>Ceroba (kitsune)>Ceroba (post training)>Clover>Clover (level 11)>Clover (level 20)>Clover (fox)>SNES DBZ game musicI was joking before, I didn't expect him to actually make a Undertale Tenkaichi 3 roster.
>>3786073DRY's castle town is a jail.
>>3786069An adult human being OP in Undertale really isn't that crazy. A toddler can exterminate the entire underground in an afternoon, no shit an adult human would be absurdly powerful. Shu is funny because he's some literally who monster in Snowdin who is supposedly a boss monster, and the second strongest guy in the underground, and he "shu sama"s Undyne on a weekly basis, and he dates Ceroba.
>>3786073This sounds like it could be chapter's 2 secret boss for DRY1
>>3786082And now he has a pendant that makes him go super saiyan with no apparent drawbacks or limitations, essentially making him the strongest monster on the underground
>>3786084Footage of Shu's transformation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C46kW_1rIO4
>>3786080>Undertale Tenkaichi 3 roster. That gave me the idea of making a fighting game with characters from the different fangames being developed here, imagine a game with:
>Cole (juandice forma)>Racter (potential unlocked)>Val (Waku Waku)>Any other important character fron those gamesAs playable characters
>>3786087We need a meme character, sort of like how Mr. Satan is like the weakest character but fun to win battles against literally OP characters that would obliterate him in canon with (you can with mr. Satan when fighting ssj4 gogeta, as an example), so we need a stand-in for that sort of character
>>3786087I did have an idea kicking around in my head for making a fangame that's basically that, but with the Undertale battle system. Sort of like Battle Mode if it weren't made by a 14 year old.
The specifics are that it would be called something like Underbattler, or Undertale Pocket Battler. The idea being its like one of those old cut down handheld ports of a console game, where they take only the most important gameplay aspects and break them up into bite sized chunks so you could play them on a bus. It would have most of the overworld and exploration stuff removed. Instead there'd be a hub world with just a few areas in it. Sort of like castle town. There's a cafe where you can interact with the characters, a shop to buy items in, a save area, and the arena where you do battles. It'd have a tournament mode, a campaign where you fight to unlock new characters and progress the story, and a free play mode. I had some ideas of a two player vs mode, but I don't know how that would be implemented. And it of course would have all the characters (or at least all the ones that would be fun to include, so no million skeletons)
This is all just theoretical though, since I've got my hands full with my current fangame as is.

>>3786007>WITH THIS PENDANT, I HAVE UNLEASHED THE TORRENT OF STRENGTH HELD DORMANT SINCE THE HUMAN-MONSTER WAR AND ACHIEVED MY ULTIMATE FORM>I NEED THIS TO DEFEAT BASE CLOVER (JACKET)
>>3786109That's probably the most lore accurate thing in there. Monsters are jobbers.
>>3786092You can win with*
>>3786109>>3786114So wait, according to the ranks, that clover became stronger than undyne (base) but is still somehow stronger than shu (golden) who is allegedly way stronger than asgore? It sounds more accurate to our interpretation of shu than the guy writing all that text intended.
>>3786134Its still wildly inaccurate because he ranks Shu above Papyrus.
>>3786078>>3786082I have a fair number of complaints towards A Father's Judgement and Hunter, but I doubt /vrpg/ would care since they've never read the series.
tl;dr Hunter is essentially written like Ceroba - the good and the bad.
He's also part of that list of "People who cucked Starlo".
>>3786170he murdered a child and then let another kill himself with the same premise?
>>3786176Well he did let Clover fall into Mt. Ebott and he also beat a child's ghost out of a monster child
But I was really talking about his personality and background. He's similar to Ceroba in a lot of aspects, but I think this would make more sense if you read A Father's Judgement.
Fair warning though, I found him pretty unlikeable in the first half of the comic. Reminded me too much of Ceroba. He improves a little later on.
>>3786200>He's similar to Ceroba in a lot of aspects, but I think this would make more sense if you read A Father's Judgement.Sounds like that might be an intentional similarity, but honestly when intentional similarities are drawn between characters like that I don't tend to like them romancing their counterpart. Having too much in common like that always makes me feel like the couple would be better as friends.
Also I don't rate OCs who date Ceroba very highly either.
Besides, Marlet is better.
>>3786022i hope for her sake it's UT noelle, otherwise she'll have the fucking knight on her doorstep soon enough
>>3786259Can Ceroba defeat this fate with her magic mask?
>>3786278I mean probably not, Ceroba is weaker than Asgore who Clover can't win against unless he's doing true justice.
>>3782036 (OP)With the latest Deltarune Chapters, I really want to make a fan boss battle against Kris. Since their goals go against ours, we'll have to face off against them at some point. I'd make it an Asgore type battle where:
>you can only win through fighting Kris>but you can use ACTs to weaken Kris's resolve and make the fight easier on yourself>Like, "*You tell Kris that nothing that happened to Dess was their fault.">"*Kris's hands shook slightly...their attack decreased,"
>>3786398there are a ton of those already, but most go into the "too edgy" territory
how would you avoid that?
>>3786406In my opinion, a lot of the Vs. Kris fanbattles revolve around Kris seething about how the player took control of their life and now they'll finally be able to exact revenge upon you. Which clearly doesn't lie up with canon, because if anything, Kris is using the SOUL in order to carry out Carol's plans.
The fact is, what Kris wants is the opposite of what their friends want. A confrontation between Kris's goals and our and Susie's goals seems inevitable. To keep it from getting "too edgy", I'd focus on the aspect of how Kris feels like they HAVE to do this because of their promise instead of trusting their friends.
>>3786414we don't know kris' full motivations yet
so just be prepared for your fanbattle to maybe get outdated next year

I'm glad that's kinda dead now even if ralsei insists dark worlds arent "real" (they are real enough to physically exist, even if temporarly)
>>3786861I don't know anyone ever pushed that idea. I personally brought it up just as a possibility, but I wasn't particularly serious about it.
I really wanted to post this before the next Yellow thread, but I didn't feel like waiting a few days for a thread that might get archived early.
Anyway, this is just a short update from a devanon working on a fangame in GMS2.
I posted an update last month, probably saying I was still implementing features. I backtracked on that statement quickly, and took a month off from my fangame.
Early on I hit a roadblock. Most of the script by now is finished, but I honestly hated trying to fit it into the engine. Programming just takes way longer than writing.
I promised myself to start getting serious about developing once summer came around, and now it's here. Don't expect another update from me until August or so.
In GameMaker, I have the basics done - mostly the pacifist route cutscenes. Most of them haven't been tested yet, partly because the new assets aren't even there.
Programming overall has been slow. It's not fun for me to comb over every line for tiny fixes. I want the frustrating parts done sooner, so I can get to the parts of development that are actually fun.
It's also frustrating sometimes to browse online and see all of that fanart while knowing you won't see any for your fangame until it actually comes out.
Expect coding to take at least a month. I should have plenty of time to do sprites/music after.
>>3787161Godspeed, anon. I got inspired to make a fangame by this thread, and so far GameMaker's been wrangling my balls.
What's the stance on using fan music (ones by other people) in fangames? I'm interested in possibly working on something and realistically can do it all on my own, except for music.
>>3787246I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but there's a high chance if you do it without permission the artist would get mad about it, and the majority of the fandom would probably side with them.
>>3787246>What's the stance on using fan music (ones by other people) in fangames?I think most people would be fine with it, obviously you would have to ask for permission before using any track made by someone else
does your fangame has original characters or locations? in that case it would be better if you had a musician helping with your project, mostly because the importance of leitmotifs in Undertale and how they represent characters relations
>>3787246as long as you ask for permission first its fine, just don't do it without or raw autism rage will fall upon you
>>3787246>>3787261>>3787266>>3787271Would people really let 4chan projects use their music anyways? Cant imagine them being happy having their music associated with the "chuderino site" given how twitter-brainrotted most of the utdr fandom has gotten
>>3787306they don't need to know that its a 4chan project ;)
but seriously, DRY1 got somewhat popular and no one outside this place seems to know of its origins
>>3787306>>3787271>>3787266>>3787261Ah yeah. In hindsight that was a pretty dumb question but it was worth asking anyways, I'm not super up to speed on a lot of fan games and what the standard usually is. Seems like I'll just have to harness energy to create my own music. Not really interested in paying or contacting someone to make music for me, since I don't believe I'd be able to properly convey the intentions and feeling.
(Stealing this from someone else. Thoughts on this?) (part one)
I finished this game yesterday. Did four routes: pacifist, flawed pacifist, genocide and neutral. I am surprised to see a thread for this game here so I am going to drop my thoughts completely unsolicited.
Before I started, people told me the characters were written much better than the original Undertale cast. What the fuck were they talking about? The game completely ignores Undertaleโs metanarrative, probably because it wouldโve been impossible to top, fair enough. Instead, it goes for a more narrative-driven approach, but the result is that it constantly lives in Undertaleโs shadow. The originalโs metanarrative is what made it incredible.
I struggled to care about the characters. Going pacifist first, all I could think about was how theyโd react if I killed them. To be fair, the main writer was 16 when they started making Undertale Yellow, so they likely didnโt have much literature or life experience to draw from. The first character is some vampire guy whose name Iโve forgotten. Heโs written like a socially inept, anxious teenager. Martlet in Snowdin? Same thing, also written like a socially inept, anxious teenager. No unique traits, no meaningful development. The game is missing date scenes or specific character interaction moments for growth like in Undertale.
Starlo was probably the one I liked most. His arc was simple but effective, despite being surrounded by a shopping cart of characters weโre apparently meant to see as our best friends. Why do the Feisty Five exist? Who even are they? They just become completely irrelevant 10 minutes after meeting with them.
>>3787367 (part 2)
Then the game shoves Ceroba at you. Sure, you hang out with her in the Steamworks and learn a bit about her, but then the plot dumps a whole heap of drama on you. Her daughter, her husbandโs evil planโฆ honestly, I couldnโt bring myself to care. The writing nosedives at the end of Steamworks, just when it seemed like it might turn around. I thought weโd head to the lab, meet the daughter, maybe help her. Instead, Ceroba runs off to a rooftop and you get thrown into a FOUR-PHASE boss fight. The final phase uses Hopes and Dreams as a completely undeserved leitmotif.
The game tells rather than shows, to a painful degree. You get clunky flashbacks and constant cutscenes instead of subtle environmental storytelling like in Undertale. The Waterfall area and True Lab used understated lore to craft a world. Here, its just endless cutscenes of characters you just met trauma dumping. You beat Ceroba and suddenly the game claims you were friends all along and that she deserves pity and you hug and cry together. I would be crying about how much I want to leave and go home. You've known Ceroba for all of close to an hour, from a diegetic perspective, Clover wouldnโt have seen all those flashbacks. It feels forced.
Then for some reason, your character decides to kill themself, and your so-called friends are just fine with it. Happy, even. You end up doing what Ceroba wanted to do to you, just on your own terms. I get that Clover is doomed to die, but the pacifist ending couldโve been so much more satisfying. And thatโs it. Beat Ceroba and the gameโs over. No post-fight gameplay, which honestly shocked me. If you kill her instead, you get an alternate ending where you fight Asgore in an abridged cutscene, just dodging attacks until you die. Itโs โsatisfyingโ only in the sense that Clover learns the fate of the humans and gets revenge on Ceroba.
>>3787369(part 3)
The genocide route drops Undertaleโs metanarrative โdonโt you have anything better to doโ theme and instead gives you an oddly hollow โjusticeโ arc. It finally explores the justice theme and missing human souls, and frames you as a vengeful force repaying the monsters. Ironically, itโs the most satisfying ending. You survive, and you โfreeโ the five humans. Itโs the inverse of Undertaleโs genocide route. Yellow rewards you for it. You get new lore. The game makes it easy to do a genocide route which probably is again, about the fact that they're not bothering with the metanarrative part. The game also forgoes the powerscaling funness of Undertale, as bosses except for when you are at LV 20 don't get struck down in one hit. You are supposed to feel emptiness in the original Undertale for killing Toriel, Mettaton, Papyrus in one strike.
And yet, even in this route, it still feels bland. The game could've dived into the whole moral philosophy and grey area of what 'justice' is but they only do it in Genocide to a shallow degree. Ceroba also gets special treatment. A bespoke boss fight with mechanics she doesnโt deserve. Why is she Japanese, anyway? I never got why a Japanese family shows up in a desert. Didnโt know the monsters had different cultures underground. Martlet is also just pathetic, she takes on a 'sans' figure without any of the coolness along with a combination of Papyrus without any of the endearment. You canโt kill her in any route except genocide where she is the final boss.
>>3787370(part 4 final)
The game would've been much better if it was focused more on the neutral route, there are exclusive scenes to it and it's not a prerequisite for the pacifist ending. The boss fight with Flowey is cool. They had such a good way to talk about how to properly achieve 'justice' for you, the monsters or whatever but the game just blows it. I do feel *bad* about some neutral killings and people's reactions to other people dying, which is a good thing and the game needed more moments to explore that kind of emotion within the player. The original Undertale would've had blind players killing people like Toriel and Undyne on their first playthroughs because they didn't know how to spare them, as the game makes sparing a puzzle. Those characters are given some of the most tragic and saddest scenes that make you feel really bad about killing them. I felt bad about sparing the characters in Yellow because that means they wouldn't shut the fuck up. The pacifist route falls into a predictable "just wait until the bosses finish their dialogue" with ACTs that do nothing at all.
In the end, the gameplay is solid, but the writing? Absolute rubbish. The pacing is bad. Reads like teenage fanfiction. Anyone who praised it as the best thing since sliced bread probably needs to read more actual literature and branch out into different mediums
>>3787367>>3787369>>3787370>>3787371where did you find this?
anyways most of the talking points of the post have been talked before in the UTY threads, and reached similar conclusions with the characters feeling inferior to their UT counterparts, the missed potential, and how some moments of the game (like the hopes and dreams leitmotif) feel undeserved

https://leftypol.org/games/res/37933.html
>>3787369Yeah to repeat things about the suicide ending I've said elsewhere, it put a bad taste in my mouth.
I also feel like Asgore could've been talked down easily, unlike in UT there's isn't the possibility of immediate freedom dangling over peoples' heads.
So Clover spending the rest of his life in the underground is like a fair possibility, there's not as much pressure on.
I still rate it more highly then some other fangames, but it feels like it begs for fanfiction or a rewrite.

Its one of the reasons im obsessed with utys flaws. I want to avoid them for a project of mine.
>>3787481Im guessing you mean the writer was 16 when they started making uty? I didn't follow it at all so I was in the dark until I got blindsided recently with the way the suicide ending actually plays out.

>>3787487Yeah, Ceroba was changed mid development as well.
Originally she tried to kill/experiment on Kanako in order to extend her own life, since without Chujin around Kanako would endlessly drain power from Ceroba until she died.
>>3787496while thats a darker character plot, they instead went with "listen to me trauma dump and then kill yourself child, also I need to ask a childs permission to stay by their side as they die".
>>3787498Either they mad to rewrite her entire plotline, stick with a character out of tone with the rest of the setting, or make her an idiot.

>>3787500>>3787498>they chose the idiot option instead of rewriting her entire plotgrim
>>3782213Even if it is a hybrid thing in DR, then that would just make Sans also a hybrid if only hybrids could bleed.
We don't know of any cases in UT of monsters bleeding aside from Sans, and the town soundtrack being 'the place where it rained' kind of put the nail in the coffin.
Sans is somehow from DR, we just don't know how.
speaking of the hybrid thing. I have a schizo theory about that.
>>3787371I don't agree with this. The ending for the pacifist run was much more bittersweet, Clover sacrificing himself so monsters could have a chance at freedom felt more noble, left the chapter open in a positive light but wasn't overtly feelgood about it. His goodbye hug was also Kino. Meanwhile Undertale's Pacifist run, while much deserved, was just unrealistic in that no one human in the overworld seemed have a problem with monsters appearing out of no where and everyone sings Kumbaya in fully decked out homes. Obviously, narratively speaking, the specifics didn't really matter in Undertale because it was just the game wrapping up but it was still super cheesy.
As for the characters I somewhat agree, Dalve was cringe, most of the other four deputies were kind of non characters, and while the twist with the fox was cool, she does something extremely stupid with her kid that made absolutely no sense to do, albeit she does admit it was a stupid thing to do so props there.
The royal guard blue bird and the Sheriff were great characters, their interactions in both Pacifist and Genocide were great throughout. In the end I'd say the Undertale Yellow had a much better Pacifist ending, while the story throughout could be argued to not be as good in some aspects, I personally liked how much more "down to Earth" everything was instead of the overtly wacky scenarios Frisk finds himself in.
Also playing along with Flowey as being an allied "friend" throughout most of the game was pretty cool alternative to the Flowey we know in Undertale. Undertale Yellow had Flowey's personality spot on.
>>3787505with the clam girl dialogue we know clam girl connects kris with frisk and susie with suzy. Yet what explains their name differences?
With kris we still dont know but with susie, theres a possible explanation. Susie and suzy have different names because one is a hybrid and the other isnt.
If susie is a hybrid, then suzy in no way can be a hybrid too. Suzy exists in the underground where there are no humans. There is no monster x humans relations that could produce susie.
So suzy would be a pure blooded monster. Which explains why they have different names. One recieved their name from a human x monster parents. The other recieved their name from a monster x monster parents.
>>3787509>Clover sacrificing himself so monsters could have a chance at freedom felt more noble, left the chapter open in a positive light but wasn't overtly feelgood about Even so theres still the issue is it doesnt make sense for the kid to do so. Starlo martlet and especially ceroba should not have accepted it because a kid does it. And flowey wouldnt have accepted it either.
If clover was an adult then there would be no issue about it. But clover isnt, clover is a kid. Thus the suicide as it is requires three adults being okay with letting a kid suicide. And flowey wasting an opportunity to get the souls right there, to wait for god knows how long until the next human drops.
The concept of the suicide can be made good. Its who is involved in that suicide and how that suicide is set up which is still problematic.
>>3787522>And flowey wouldnt have accepted it either. Are you sure? Honestly, I feel like Flowey would be ecstatic for Clover to willingly give up their soul like that, makes taking the other five way easier.
>>3787533when asgore is right near, and thus the opportunity to get the souls is close, I dont think flowey would waste such an opportunity. Why would he waste the opportunity and wait for the next human to fall? When its not even guaranteed that they will fall, that they will fall soon, or that they are a weak child?
I can see him accept giving up the soul, if he realizes clover cant win or the soul is given to him. But by the ending of non flawed pacifist, clover doesnt give the soul to flowey. And flowey hasnt seen clover yet fail to asgore.
>>3787522>Its who is involved in that suicide and how that suicide is set up which is still problematic.this is the real issue at the end of the day. people have been writing "human gives up soul willingly" fanfiction and comics since day 1 but the execution felt like clover was supposed to be the adult in a room full of monster children. Ceroba asking a dying kid if she should stay around just triples down on her having no motherly instincts which, while fitting considering the clownshoe fucked up her daughter , the game doesn't really properly embrace. it has her state that shes a terrible mother but its like the game itself doesn't want to believe it in how the following scenes are written. I continue to be unable to believe that a bunch of adults just go "alright later kid" and walk off as clover dies.
>>3787555>this is the real issue at the end of the day. people have been writing "human gives up soul willingly" fanfiction and comics since day 1 but the execution felt like clover was supposed to be the adult in a room full of monster children. YUP, its the biggest issue about the ending. Like I understand what the devs were trying to do. I can see what that other anon described. The issue is they chose a bad way to do it. Character assassinating the three adults, making the child be the one that does the suicide, and the things you mentioned.
> it has her state that shes a terrible mother but its like the game itself doesn't want to believe it in how the following scenes are writtenYeah this is another issue the game has.
>>3787562I think you can tell that the fanbase at large even if they dont fully recognize it since there seem to be people madly in love with the characters, they can feel that something is off since i see a lot of fan content that talks about clovers body just being there. the game does some interesting things and it seems like it made use of FUN values, so I've got to give it a lot of credit for a fangame but it kind of makes me think of people that don't notice the expressions kris and suzie are making at the end of chapter 4 because they are so "hyped about ship confirmations"
>>3787565TBF the fanbase at large used to despise the ending and ceroba. Its just over time the hate went down. (which is very good for ceroba, since I dont think she deserves the hate.)
But yeah, I think what happened is people went from REEE THE ENDING BAD to the extreme opposite end of REEE THE ENDING GOOD. Which lead to:
>so I've got to give it a lot of credit for a fangame but it kind of makes me think of people that don't notice the expressions kris and suzie are making at the end of chapter 4 because they are so "hyped about ship confirmations"Which lead to this.
>>3787509>Undertale Yellow had Flowey's personality spot on.Problem is, if canon flowey is on uty, theres absolutely no outcome where he lets clover simply die in peace, he would try anything to get the souls, and flowey wouldnt just give up on that out of nowhere
>>3787574I dunno, he gives up on using the human souls against Frisk in UT after seeing them rebel against him for the first time, so I don't think it's necessarily OOC for him to be willing to declare a certain approach as being unusable.
>>3787594>>3787574Its not ooc for flowey to eventually give up if hes througly beaten. It is ooc that he gives up that easily in the non flawed pacifist ending. But it isnt ooc if he eventually gives up (as seen by frisk smacking flowey)
>>3787501It's Lancer's salsa, he was just sharing it with her.
>>3787503>and the town soundtrack being 'the place where it rained' kind of put the nail in the coffin.I still don't know if the Sans in DR is the one that will be sent to Undertale. I think it might be the other way around since he seems to be aware that (you) know him from Undertale. If he isn't then this might be something happening in parallel or after Undertale involving a different Sans.
Hey, is it weird to anyone else how in UT Sans and Papyrus become the head of what's basically Mettaton's gestapo in that one neutral ending where Mettaton takes over?
>>3787625Papyrus thinks he's his actual talent agent.
Sans just keeps strategically slacking off, forgetting to lock the cells and accidentally leaving classified documents ewverywhere.
>oh, you're supposed to use a rag during waterboarding? sorry, didn't had one on me, so consider it a free bath. anyway, here's a towel, dry yourself off, you're all wet
>>3787628I like that interpretation, but I'm not sure how much stock I put in that one. I mean, Papyrus even directly states that people who speak out against Mettaton's rule get disappeared, whereas he says (and seems to truly believe) that all the people you killed in other neutral routes are simply on vacation somewhere. If whatever's happening under Mettaton's regime is bad enough for Papyrus to actively acknowledge people being as un-personed, it's gotta be pretty bad.

>sans and papyrus....
>>3787633Man, I kinda want a Horrortale style AU, but set after an ending where Mettaton takes over the underground instead of Undyne.
I imagine most of it would be about navigating your way through Mettaton's 1984-esque dystopic regime, with Sans and Papyrus either working from the inside to try and help you along and depose Mettaton, or actually trying to stop you and take your soul.
>>3787635>Horrortale style AU>Mettaton's 1984-esque dystopic regimquestion is do we make it set before the collapse or after the collapse (example pre bioshock rapture collapse or after bioshock rapture collapse)
>>3787638I'd say before collapse, it's more interesting if the threat is actively operating. No idea what the endings to this kind of story would be, I can't help but feel that since all the previously gathered human souls would have vanished that there wouldn't be too much of a possibility for a happy ending here. Best I can really see would be an ending where our protagonist human just takes a look at the underground and goes "Wow, this is what you guys have turned to after being stuck here for all this time? Damn, guess I'll give up my soul just to throw you guys a bone.".
I dunno, either that or maybe one of Alphys' old experiments can somehow break the barrier.
>>3787640Okay so I can imagine this. The entire new home becomes mettatons personal utopia. Status of him are everywhere. Mettaton brands, cosmetics, items and shit are everywhere. Gardens, spotlights, parades, all sorts of things are made to celebrate mettatons glory. Television, radio, and other forms of technology blasting 24/7 pro mettaton propaganda. Food, clothes toys and stuff related to that being made to be pro mettaton. Vehicles such as planes, cars, zepplins (if they exist) are given mettaton branding. Just everywhere is pro mettaton as much as possible. You can not escape mettaton for mettaton is everywhere.
And then outside the city its whole scale collapse. The economy, education and all sorta collapses has turned large sections outside of new home and hotlands into a utter hellscape. So monsters are forced to have two options. Either stay in mettatons "utopia" and be mettatons audience and supporter. Or go outside newhome and hotlands, and hope for the best.
>>3787640Best ending is (you) taking over to personally fix the place.
>>3787367I can see where this person is coming from, especially with the criticisms towards the pacifist endings, but I think saying "wow if you think this is great writing go read a book" and then praising Undertale as having exceptional writing is honestly rather odd. I agree UTY's writing could be rather flawed, but really so was UT. It's not magnitudes worse as people claim.
That said, I am a sucker for Deltarune and think its writing is a big step up from Undertale. Then again, I like UT less and less the more I play it, so years down the line I might say the same about DR.
>>3787635I did outlined my own version of Mettaton-ending postquel, but it wasn't a full-blown dystopia and was more in line with the original Undertale - a conflict between well-intentioned people.
Basically, another human falls into Underground, is immediately captured and brought before Mettaton who announces that human is going to become "his heir". Human is then put into gilded cage, but soon the Resistance breaks him out and tells him to find and contact their leader. Human then goes through New Home, a neon dystopian cyberpunk city, a Hotland that is one giant power plant now, Waterfall that was turned into sewer/coolant tunnels, and Snowdin that is thawed completely and is now a miserable shantytown. He then meets the leader of resistance who is Alphys piloting a giant mecha. She did not kill herself, instead she decided to revive the Asgore's genocidal plan as revenge for Undyne. Meanwhile Mettaton was actually serious about the heir thing, he wanted human to become an envoy who would plead for monsterkind in front of humanity, and Mettaton was planning to sacrifice himself to give human a monster soul to cross the Barrier - the giant power plant was actually built because a massive energy expenditure is required to transplant a non-Boss Monster soul.
>>3787652*a conflict between well-intentioned but misguided people
would mettaton be schizo and narcissistic enough to construct a religion based on himself. Say hes the second coming of the angel in robotic flesh.
Or would that be too autistic
>>3787640Best ending could be overthrowing mettaton just like how toriel gets overthrown in many neutral endings, basically have the true pacifist ending require you to gather enough evidence in the hopes that mettaton gets cancelled online and lead a rebellion, with the end result being you having to take mettaton down in a climatic MTT NEO battle, and thus, the game ends with papyrus becoming the king and/or toriel returning become the queen again (the monsters would change their minds about the human now that the human helped them out or something, so they would apologize for their behavior, or, if you want to get spicy, toriel refuses to lead the people who exiled her for not wanting to kill humanity, and "now you have the nerve to come back begging?", then she urges the human to go with her back to the ruins, and there would be three choices, "But mom, i want to stay with dad" which leads to toriel begrudgingly deciding to stay as the queen for the human's sake as king papyrus gives a small speech about why she should stay here and help the monsters rebuild what remains of the kingdom that mettaton has controlled, which actually convinces toriel to stay and admit she was too rash, ending with a photo of papyrus, sans, and toriel with sans and the human staying in the middle, sort of like the og ut tpe photo, of course, the other option is "i want to stay with you." which is simply going to toriel's house, and "i want to stay with papyrus" would be about the same as the first ending but without toriel on the photo, itd be simply toriel sighing and accepting that papyrus will take much better of the human than her, and walks away), ofc, killing toriel and absorbing her soul does give you an extra variant of the true pacifist ending where you can choose to exit the underground instead, where papyrus gives you a similar phonecall to the ut king papyrus ending but slightly different, also itd be cool if theres an epilogue before the photo where you visit jailed mtt
>>3787668>basically have the true pacifist ending require you to gather enough evidence in the hopes that mettaton gets cancelled onlinwould this even work when the neutral ending implies mettaton has some sort of secret police/surveliance state going on. And a horrortale version of that would probably be worse?
>>3787675Well, You can always save and reload! the true pacifist ending wouldnt be too obviously simple to get in the first run, think of it like the ut tpe but it actually makes reloading useful rather than just flowey pulling the strings behind the scene to get you to the asriel fight, you might even require help from other monsters in order to not be stumped by mettaton's police/surveliance state, which is why this outcome would require you to spare most monsters, so that they actually want to help you, its not impossible, its just pretty challenging, thats all
>>3787682So just to clarify what I was wondering is how exactly would the human cancel metaton, if mettaton through the secret police or etc probably censors and controls the undernet.
Looking at what you are saying, are you suggesting that the human befriends or tries to ally themselves with the gov monsters. Who would then allow the information to spread through the undernet?
>>3787687Well, there are plenty of ways to make it work, lets assume that true pacifist also has you recruit more monsters into the rebellion, and, this might sound too awfully convenient, but i'd like to think that you could actually convince one or some of these secret police guys into helping you as an insider for the sake of the rebellion, so with some help, you could be actually able to spread this information efficiently enough for mettaton's tyranny to crumble apart/for the rebellion to grow wayy more than mettaton himself could handle
>>3787694Hmm and seeing how you saying theres multiple ways for this to work, are you suggesting theres multiple potential paths? Like besides convincing secret police monsters to join your side there's also other ways to spread this information? Multiple routes, multiple options, multiple choices?
>>3787398Why is leftypol talking about undertale fangames?
>>3787700Well, yeah, i guess, but it might be way less likely to work during high lv neutral runs since you'd be too aggressive to work with, maybe even impossible depending on how effective king mettaton's defenses are
>>3783742Sorry for how long it took to find the time, I have my write-up for Chapter 1.
https://rentry.co/gmmm79oh
Despite the critical attitude I use on all art, I had a good time with it and I want to see more. I even brainstormed my own Weird Route for the story, but it would only work if the normal route went a specific way. It would be focused not on meta aspects or corrupting a different party member, but solely putting Cole through hell and making him lash out until things go very badly. It would involve Cole's new human foster parents visiting before his takeaway, having driven from the big city, and him making a dark world himself, one built for pure cowboy-themed escapism but which gets eroded away by a tide of concrete. How Cole handles things in that world would be the lock point for the weird route.
>>3787743I'm under the impression that Cole does not call Martlet "Mom" because she is a big sister figure rather than a mother figure. I always found that dynamic considerably more fitting and more in line with the UTY authors' intentions than Momlet, anyhow.
>>3787743>Ceroba is loyal (can be dialed up to being possessive), bad at thinking plans through, won over by flimsy sentimentality, thinks she's smarter and more capable than she is, and exhibits tard rage at a couple points in UTY.you are missing a important aspect of ceroba, which is her willingness to do fucked up things for the "greater good".
Its clear that during her travels with clover, she grew very attached to clover. Its also clear that shes aware that the human soul she needs is a pure good one.
And yet this doesnt stop her. Shes perfectly willing to kill the innocent human child. And to keep trying to keep kill them over and over again until she finally loses.
I think this tendacy or willingess to do fucked up things for the "greater good" could be put in kanako. It could lead to a interesting plot and character moments.
>>3787761wait a minute this can be connected to the outlaw route...
>>3787762>outlaw routeI mean genocide route. Okay this is a sign for me to sleep.
>>3787605I don't really see how that could be the case, sure we can have Kris respond to Sans like they knew each other before.
Beside that one interaction, which I think is Sans just fucking with us again.
While most of the connects that do exist are Sans from Undertale being from Deltarune.
Things like the ICE-E word search, Sans wanting to go back home to a place that isn't the surface and he can't reach anymore, it's raining somewhere else combined with the place where it rained, the don't forget note and the monsters(probably darkners) Frisk doesn't recognizes in Sans' basement, the fact UT monsters don't bleed but at least some monsters in DR do, his warp door room.
>>3787161If I were to do what youโre doing I would gut Yellowโs code to be easier to work with for starters. Add an auto indent feature so you donโt need hash to newline.
>>3787640I think the best ending is just ending Mettaton's dictatorship and staying underground.
While genocide would be about trying to hunt down and kill an even more reclusive Toriel who's fled from the now uninhabitable ruins. As she's the only Boss Monster left she's the only chance the human has for escape.
The spirit of pacifist is all about going out of your way to help people and build a better future, but with the other souls being gone escape isn't an option. The best the human can hope for is to make the underground a better place.
While in the genocide route equivalent all the human would care about is escape, and not improving other peoples' lives.
>>3787743thanks for the review, some of the suggestions are pretty good and I might use them

>>3787990You've hit upon the whole problem with Undertale Yellow's last few areas.
Just don't think about it too hard.
>>3788097Hey buddy, I think you got the wrong thread. Deltarune thread's two blocks down.
>>3787956Hi DRY1 guy (I think). I'm not sure if this has been talked about much, but I think an additional change could be made to the 'prison.' It feels like you're supposed to be apprehending random Darkners at this point, since otherwise they'd 'disappear' alongside their worlds. By any chance had you considered having Cole willingly bringing them to the prison or something? They could be the 'prison staff' or guards, kind of like YourTown in Deltarune.
The chapter 1 even mentions that he wishes the 'others' could've been spared the end of the first dark world. Almost makes it seem like sparing Darkners isn't really different from fighting them, since they're basically doomed regardless.
>>3788128I have some ideas for unique interactions later based on which darkners you manage to get, also since I'm changing bearing's motivations and stuff, that line will also change to something else
>>3788135Then is the general idea that we should be apprehending Darkners over sparing them? As the former lets them stick around, while the latter (currently) reduces them back to inanimate objects.
>>3788169My impression is that the morally correct thing would be to apprehend them, but the Warden doesn't want it because of the small, limited space of his jail; he would rather the Darkners return to their selves, save the criminals that must be locked up if there aren't ulterior motives in saving only the criminals. I assumed this would become a conflict later on.
>>3788253Doesnt castle town get bigger the more recruits you have? You could expand the prison into a maximum security prison or something the more recruits you receive
>>3788253>>3788169I thought the moral question was whether it was better to trap the darkners in the jail alive or to let them die free with their respective dark worlds.
>>3788299Trap them in jail, you can free em up later
>>3788420Free them to where? They can't live outside the dark world, they can't survive in any other dark worlds, and you can't reopen their original dark worlds.
Trying to make a Deltarune fan boss battle. I've been fucking around with GameMaker, and I have to ask a question (especially to the DRY guy):
How the hell would I go about making the battle system? Can I somehow extract it from the game files with UndertaleModTool or do I have to recreate it myself? I was watching a shitpost involving a mock battle between Dess and Asgore's car, and the creator said it took three months to recreate the Deltarune battle system.
>>3788450>especially to the DRY guyI managed to do it in just a month because I have experience with trying to make RPGs for years before DRY, and I use C# with ienumerators acting as coroutines which I use to control most of the stuff
pretty much what you want is to have a state machine control the main battle loop, then use coroutines for acts and enemy moves (while returning the main loop while a coroutine is active)
if you are doing a DR system with multiple party members, you need a way to track who is currently acting and if they have attacked, I have a state in the state machine to just find who is the next person to act. each actor has a counter of how many actions they have, and if no one can act, then it moves to the enemy turn (the bullet box)
after that, it then runs a coroutine to run all "end of turn" stuff, like adding hp if someone is down or special equipment stuff, as well as reset everyone's actor turns
>>3788454Damn, I thought there'd be a simple way to do it. Well, thank you for the help!
>>3788274castle town remains the same size, though it seems like there are livable areas that the fun gang simply can't access
>>3788471Does it? Cause it looks like the castle interior got a bit bigger, to the extent that the location of specific individual rooms seems to have changed from chapter 2 to chapter 3.
>>3788471>>3788274>>3788253>>3788169I have some ideas for the prison but I don't want it to be just a castle town copy
it will start becoming more apparently after chapter 3 or so

>>3788476So you build like an army or group of police officers who hang out around the prison?

>>3789641I don't think he'd have much of an issue with it, other than the general awkwardness of meeting your mom's new boyfriend and having to get to know someone as eccentric as Papyrus. Neither Clover or Cole have an idealized, rose-tinted view of "the way the family used to be" like Kris does. Martlet getting a date isn't accidentally stomping on Clover's nostalgia. Plus, Papyrus is deceptively mindful of other people's emotions and wants to help people attain the kind of confidence and contentment he has. He wouldn't make "your mom" jokes to Clover, he'd probably be ecstatic to meet and bond with Martlet's kid (perhaps to an embarrassing degree, but it's obviously from a good place). Unless being in a relationship somehow distracted Martlet from taking care of Clover (which I highly doubt), this situation sounds totally fine.
Now, if it was CEROBA, that would be a meltdown-inducing nightmare for Kanako (and maybe Clover too, Momroba or otherwise).

>>3789958You're right, it would be alcoholic-milf-hunter Sans again.
>>3789827I think it would be a good choice to have it tied to her character somehow, if not as a pure joke then also something that shows her outlook on life a bit. Maybe she was born with the same edgy-looking color palette as her brother, and in fact wore it better. She changed it to something softer just because she felt it better fit her personality, to the disappointment of her brother, and after she decided to become a peppy monster idol went all the way with her pastel pink-and-white look.
She took down all the royal portraits that had her as a child, but her brother kept one and you can find it late in the game after you've met and fought both siblings. It embarrasses her to think of a time when she wasn't in control of her image but none of her fans would consider her look to be embarrassing, purely a mental hangup on her part.
>>3789961I don't think she would like Sans either. Toriel and Sans got along because they shared a similar sense of humor, Roba has no sense of humor.

>Was an Amazing mother and wife, she just made one awful mistakeWhere do I begin with this one.
First off, she's neither an amazing mother or wife, and at most, I would say she's just moderate.
From what little the game shows us, she was simply okay, but again, she has very little personality to show for her being an actual mother, let alone wife.
Plus, an amazing mother wouldn't inject her daughter with an experimental serum, and an amazing wife wouldn't betray her husband's exact orders for something she doesn't even know works.
And that "little mistake" is a bit more like gross negligence of her daughter's safety. It's a sign that she didn't consider her husband's wish, but what she thought he would wish for.

>>3790050>From what little the game shows us, she was simply okay, but again, she has very little personality to show for her being an actual mother, let alone wife.Actually, her relationship with Chujin is explored in great detail. She is completely loyal to her husband, she had created an idealized image of him as some kind of genius visionary, and she never questions it. She sees his participation trophy and mistakes it for the Nobel Prize. Chujin already had problems with overestimating his capabilities, but Ceroba worshipping the very ground he walked on only exacerbated the issue.
If anything, the game makes it clear that ceroba was a bad wife for chujin. Chujin didnt need a simp chujin needed someone who could tell him the truth about his bs.
>>3790050btw, here's my take on Carol. What is it about her that makes people hate her?
She hasn't been shown to commit any real crimes as of chapter 4. So far, she's merely suspicious, and makes people uncomfortable. That's it.
I'm not even sure if she's that abusive, but she is extremely protective of her family. That's already more motherly than what Ceroba has going on.
Plus, she has an actual hobby collecting mini-Christmas figurines (and a job; Ceroba is practically a bum).
>>3790053I'm not saying you can't post images from Reddit, because it does have a wide range of UTY content that I enjoy.
It's just an enabler for awful takes like those who defend Ceroba relentlessly.
Picrel originated from Reddit, but I still found it funny.

>>3789963I did have something planned involving her true colors Her true personality is the polar opposite of her public. While her outward persona is this bubbly, sweet, and dainty teenage girl, her real persona is a cold hearted Machiavellian sociopath.

>>3790120>>3790125Ah, yeah shitposting in fast threads isn't for me. Except Tennaposting and burgertrucking, those will never cease to make me laugh
>>3790138>burgertruckingHonestly, not a big fan of this meme. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I have an unsavory feeling that it's just reddit is running damage control for Toriel. "People are waking up, quick, we need to shit on Asgore."
>>3790075That makes perfect sense as a twist, though given how straightforward it is I hope there's some humanity within the character. Undertale tends to shy away from pure evil, so even if she's a cold, manipulative sociopath I'd make sure the player can find some justification to spare her beyond the Doylist "doing a pacifist run" reason. This assumes she'd be a boss, which seems a fair guess given how often she's talked about
>>3790166I don't think the meme is a dig at Asgore, I always thought it was portraying him as a badass in the most insane and tongue-in-cheek way. From what I've seen, the overwhelming consensus is that Toriel and Sans were being completely insensitive to Kris at best and downright negligent at worst
>>3790168major spoilers she's a route exclusive boss. You don't even get to fight her in any other route. So the player doesn't need much reason to spare her. normal spoilers not that I won't humanize her. Every character has reasons for being how they are and has emotions beyond "evil". Kitsy really does care deeply about her brother
>>3790172>normal spoilersThat's about all I was hoping for. With luck I'll be seeing something from you some time in the future
>>3790046>The whole point of these threads is fixing concepts that don't work, and I am determined to make one good yuri ship in the entire universe. Can't you chose something not involving Martlet? Besides this ship would be weird since Martlet kind of saw Chujin as a father figure, she even described him as an older monster
>>3790176What, and end up with another safe and boring "purest form of love" ship? Hell no, the weirdness is the whole point. We have two adult women bonding over their loss and seeking comfort in each other's embrace, then you factor their shared lack of common sense in, add a drop of "adult soda", and the next morning we will get a beautiful picture of Martlet awkwardly stroking Ceroba's head and telling her over and over again that they did not betray Chujin. That's what I want to see in yuri instead of blushing schoolgirls.

>Volition as a source of Determination>Inland Empire to accept the situation he's in>Empathy is the name of the game>Esprit de Corps will go off like a siren when he meets UndyneHe will definitely not stop until he gets a True Pacifist ending. Meanwhile Kim, if he's alone, will probably just end up killing someone in self-defense and leaving the Underground without really trying to solve everyone's issues.
Cuno is pretty much Susie on meth. If he's alone, he will get True Pacifist ending. If he's with Cunoesse - well, she's literally Chara, so things will go south quickly.

Starting to wonder what it was that caused these two to end up so close in DRY1.
>>3791290Human boys simply can't resist fox fluff.
>>3791290i actually do have an explanation for it in DRY2
it started not long after cole was adopted by martlet.
mylo(melody(blue soul)) had arrived a little while ago.
at first, he was happy to have another human in town.
but mylo was also a bully, using "maintaining the rules" as a justification for it (finding any little nitpick in the school's outdated rules that someone infringed)
cole did not take kindly to this
first day in school, he caught her bullying kanako. the two got into a fight and mylo ended up getting beat pretty badly.
one forced apology later and the two still hate each other up until the events of the game.
kanako of course was scared of cole at first. she had her father's antihuman views bouncing around in her head and now suddenly there's two violent humans in town.
but she warmed up to cole throughout that year. he'd never actually go after someone unless it was perfectly reasonable and every time mylo went to bully her, cole was there to stop it and make sure kanako was ok.
much to chujin's dismay the two eventually became inseparable best friends
also sorry for not having that update i promised a few days ago, i got absorbed by a 100% off discount on a game after the thread got autoarchived and am getting back into it now.

>>3791574That's the one. (You) da man Anon!
>>3791325Interesting take
>>3791295Of course, but DRY1's take seems to be something specific that resulted in Kanako trusting Cole with the "leader" position from the word go.
DRYanons, are you doing something with Moray?
>>3791648DRY2, moray's a police officer with ed.
for other various side characters...
>starlo is a farmer/the towns impromptu mayor (people trust him, simple as)>mooch and ace are street performers>bailador is the school principle/a teacher >blackjack and mo run a pawn shop. blackjack buys, mo sells.>dalv runs the library>chujin, tech shop.
>>3791686>mooch and ace are street performersYeah, I can see that
>ace runs a shell game operation>it's a surprisingly fair and legit game he runs>but how do they make profit?>mooch pickpockets everyone while they are playing>if you are putting your focus in following the shells, you cant focus on your walletOf course, I'd assume this would only be one of their schemes.
Mooch is probably very impulsive, but Ace? Ace is a thinking man
He knows that if he does one act too often, people will get suspicious
So he switches things every so often
>they do a different thing every chapter
My interpretation was always something like that, but I'm not sure if it would fit both DRYanon's stories. Also I might have made it too mundane and not conductive enough to a fantastic story.
>Starlo is a county sheriff and Cole's adoptive dad
>Martlet is a sheriff's deputy (hired because they couldn't afford helicopter, still has her gun and absolutely 100% did not lose it by accident)
>Chujin is a shrewd businessman (actually just got lucky back in the day and is out of his depth since then, either doing some development project in Eastwood or deceased)
>Ceroba is a local coyote who married a foreign businessman, left the town and recently returned with a vengeance
>Ed is a president of an outlaw biker club and former friend of Starlo
>Mooch and Ace are mechanics in Ed's chop shop and small-time criminals
>Moray is a country singer with connections to Ed
>Mo is an ambulance chaser
>Blackjack is a pawn shop owner and is hinted to be a war vet

>>3791758We know who pulls the strings
currently on my genocide route and seeing UT sprite next to UT Yellow sprite is like night and day lol
>>3791705I totally get where he's coming from. Between the insane fanbase and the grossly disproportionate cost-benefit ratio in making a fan project, I often wonder if spending time on a UT project is worthwhile over something original or even something for a different series
>>3791886It's honestly a great feeling when you get art whiplash in a sequel (or prequel in this case)
Ace Attorney Apollo Justice might be my favorite, it has extremely high quality pixel art but then at a certain point they start reusing sprites from the GBA games, which are also great in their own right but which look crusty as hell when put side by side with the new ones
Tbh even Deltarune has this problem, later chapters increase the art scope a lot and then a character like Lancer appears and looks completely out of place by not getting that same quality bump
>>3791943Toby said he'd remake chapter 1's graphics later before the full release
>>3791948Source? I've never heard this before
I've got mixed feelings on it if so, I do like the tamer graphics of Chapter 1, it and UTY hit a sweet spot for graphical fidelity to me. It's probably best to have the whole thing consistent though
>>3791943To be fair, Lancer is bad on purpose. IIRC, they made a walk animation for him but scrapped it anyway.
>>3791758My original plan was to ship Toriel with Carol, you know, two tired adult women having an alcohol-fueled fling. Needless to say, chapter 4 destroyed that idea thoroughly, but I found a way to salvage the whole idea and even give it a new angle.
>>3791761Well, the idea is not to make it a proper relationship where they announce it to the world and marry each other and so on. It's just a secret affair, a guilty pleasure for everyone involved.
>>3791836The one who makes the world revolve!

This scene rewrite is way better than all of deltatraveler combined
>>3792011Huh. Any other UTY characters make an appearance?
>>3791943I have to disagree. I hate when a series has a drastic change in art style, it makes it feel like its lost its soul and is no longer the game I fell in love with.
>>3791961>Well, the idea is not to make it a proper relationship where they announce it to the world and marry each other and so on. It's just a secret affair, a guilty pleasure for everyone involved.I still stand by what I hate said. Its cocopowder tier in terms of how incompatible they are.
ok finally had some time so here is a new enemy, chest mimic, sometimes they will jump at you if you check some chests in the overworld but they have a tell if you look closely
it attacks by spitting junk at you, but you can shoot targets it spits out to add mercy (if you hit all of them you get full mercy)
also added icons to show the selected action in the party member's hp bar, not to mention replaced all instances of "INTERACT", "MENU" and "CANCEL" button text with the actual button (or controller buttons if you are using it)
>>3792178another thing is that using tension bits/gems will now use them instantly instead of waiting for the turn like in DR, as well as the pop rock now has variant healing like the chocolate in DR (though I need a new healing item for chapter 1 now)
>>3792178Hey, that's pretty cool!
>>3792178Could you post a video of the mimic in the overworld so we can see its trick in action?
>>3792223I actually haven't coded that yet, but I will try to this weekend
>>3792225Can you post the overworld sprite at least? I'd like to see how hard it is to tell apart from a normal chest.
>>3792232here, left is regular chest, middle is mimic disguised (the "eye" will flip every few seconds) and the right is what it changes to when you try to open it and the battle starts
>>3792234You should make the eye follow the player around the screen. Maybe make it a bit more visible. People with poor eyesight (like myself) would struggle to pick out a single pixel difference like that.
>>3792241I'll see how it goes, I will share clips here when I do code it
>>3792234You can change the colour a bit, or maybe make it shake if you stand near it for too long
Can some anons give me some advice on enemy attacks to make for Kris? I made a scuffed version of the attack where the Knight summons a bunch of homing swords one by one, and I made another attack that's supposed to involve projectiles coming out from Kris's phone.
>>3792374Some Flirting-related attack that moves your heart around.
Hockey sticks and pucks.
>>3792234One thing to consider is to do exactly what Toby Fox did with DR Chapter 2's pop-up enemy and make the first one mandatory to progress, blocking a path. The later ones can all be optional and avoidable, but the player knows what to look for because they had to encounter one
>>3792178One small thing I never mentioned in my Chapter 1 review from last week: I think Penceller's attacks could be spruced up in a pretty simple way. If there's only Pencellers, no alternate enemies contributing to the attack, what if the pencils get stuck on the battle box, poking a hole through the other side and remaining for the duration of the attack? This would be too limiting in tandem attacks but only two pencils are thrown in the solo attack so there's plenty of room and no worries about dodging anything else.
>>3792374X-slash that acts like Sans's lightning, except without the warning before hand and it deals more damage.
>>3792378An attack that moves your heart around sounds fun. It's going to be a fight against Kris in the Dark World, though, so I was thinking of attacks more specific to what Kris can do in the Dark World.
>>3792381>Sans's lightningI don't remember this.

>>3792424>deltaruneYour decisions don't matter. You are following a script.

>>3792431even in base DR that happens with stats increasing each chapter, and you get money in every battle even if there is no EXP which you can then use to get items/equipment
with the latest chapters there is a lot of equipment you can do to alter your playstyle actually, check this video for some examples https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BsA2NeV4ec&t=605s

On topic; the hug act, or at least the animations, should be reimplemented.
>>3792431A large portion of the people in these threads are devs. If you have problems with the way Deltarune plays you could suggest some improvements. If the ideas are good then they have a decent chance of getting implemented.
>>3792435hugs are good
we should maximise hugs
>>3792435Hugs were removed?
>>3792435If hugs are to come back there would have to be a kind of ACT tutorial to sneak in the initial hug. Then you sneak it into unique encounters (e.g. minibosses) so the player can't spam it and has to maximize it, plus a few dialogue branch options for good measure
And then if you've maxed out your hug counter including the optional overworld stuff, hugging Kanako in the Foxlace secret boss fight has her reciprocate and gives 20% spare to the boss
>>3792435hugging will be a core mechanic for DRY2
>healing is rather strict, kanako only has an emergency revive (high TP, once per battle, doesnt fully heal on a revive) and you arent guaranteed a healing spell from the other characters in the party>every character has "HugLimit" set at the start of the chapter>cole has a permanent HUG act that lets him heal himself and the target. but he can only do so as many times as a character has HugLimit.>a character's last allowed hug will heal the target less.>but, running HugLimit down to zero increases that character's HugTolerance, which increases that character's HugLimit for the next chapter>if you consistently run everyone's HugLimit down every chapter kanako, sadie, and gizmo will try to have an intervention about it in one of the later dark worlds that plays out along the lines of "cole you cant just force people to like hugs, its not right" "but you guys love them now!" "EXACTLY!">this has been a plan since the beginning.anyways i want to work on the game but i've got a stupid headache and most of my day is consumed tomorrow.
regardless, i will have an update for the next thread (as long as its not right now)
>>3792436My ideas are not for your kind. There's nothing you can do to improve the deltarune system other than accelerate the fights and make the dodging harder/tighter but the entire system is not that interesting and it would fall apart by the seams. That leaves the player an instant to dodge, but does forewarn him.

>>3792381>>3792468Are you talking about Asriel's lightning?
>>3792471I guess I misremembered. Maybe it was a mettatton attack. I just remember there being a boss with an attack where a box with an exclamation mark would appear on a spot, then a second later lightning would strike there.
>>3792475Yeah, that was it. I guess I got my attacks mixed up.
>>3792444Just add special interactions you get by hugging kanako enough or doing specific shit, sort of like how you can get optional krusie interactions in deltarune ch3&4 by doing specific things like going with susie to the qc dinner place or attacking susie with minikris, so it doesnt have to be an exclusive route or smthn, just add optional shipbait like how toby does
>>3792477I think you're talking about Dalv from Undertale Yellow.
so save points in light world, should they be added in fangames or not?
remember toby added them because playtesters complained
>>3792490I can say with certainty that I'm not because I have not played UTY.
>>3792485No, kanako hugmaxxing will result in the marriage route.
>>3792492Toby's playtesters are retarded. Chapter 4 didn't need light world save points.
>>3792496maybe but they are still convenient
should fangames add them anyway just for the sake of it?
I added a few in DRY1 (right now just in the main town area and cole's room) just because but if people don't like them I can remove them
>>3792497I just don't think they're necessary. They probably wouldn't have bothered if I hadn't known the reason they were added, but now that I do they're a real fly in the ointment. I see it and I just think "this exists because some playtester couldn't go five minutes without saving". Its the same feeling I get when I see yellow paint.
>>3792497I feel like if it's taking an hour or less to get through the Light World section, it's fine.
>>3792477https://youtu.be/RH05QKkk6Q8?si=ZbRzGSKqnrH7bshh&t=570
>>3792497It depends on the situation. They made sense in DR chapter 4, but wouldn't really be necessary anywhere else. The one thing I would change is adding a save point after the King fight in chapter 1 so you don't have to redo the fight to re-explore Hometown.
For DRY, so far, I don't see a point to it: you can backtrack to the jail and save there, just like in the DR chapter 2 Hometown segment
>>3792496They were warranted. It's nice to be able to conveniently see all the light world dialogue and event options
>>3792497Only add it if there are too many dark worlds open in your light world-focused chapter, like, dr ch4 had like 4 fucking dark worlds, as if the darkness was so much it started leaking into the light world, so it might be good if you could make cole (and kanako?) freak out a bit over seeing save points in their hometown
>>3792523This can work. If you can do something narratively with save points in the over world I wouldn't mind them.
>>3792525>>3792523alright, but I'm considering leaving the one in cole's room just for convenience since its on the other side of town to the dark jail

I played through DRY1's Chapter 2 now. I plan to write something longer about it but this popped in my head immediately and I had to seize on it: the rangers' talk sound should be the guitar synth from the SNES Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers game
I made three versions of it that could be used for the different rangers, with different pitch and speed
https://vocaroo.com/15db7MpOaNA4
https://vocaroo.com/1ijo6XBs1qIQ
https://vocaroo.com/17j3zfCBWrnG
You might need to add or remove some white space at the end, I don't know how exactly your engine renders these
Also, the blue ranger's text is really hard to read. I suggest either making it cyan or adding in functionality for Deltarune's dark world textboxes, seen in the bottom box of pic
>>3792532i'd say that you should try to incorporate it into the world rather than throwing down a regular save point like toby did.
for example maybe a bench in the light world can act as your save
im going to have to add one for DRY2 purely because my plan for the light world is TOO LONG (spatially)
>>3792539Maybe Cole's bed could be a save point
>>3792537actually I was thinking about that earlier today, godot doesn't have a built in way to add gradients into text, but it might be possible if I program a custom shader for it
I will check this weekend maybe
also thanks for the sounds
>>3792539>>3792540bed could work too instead of a regular save point I guess
>>3792540yeah the bed is a good idea for a light world save... but for 2 a save point wouldnt help in cole's house because thats almost right next to the hub world.
meanwhile, if you're over at sadie's place you're all the way on the other side of town. it'd be a pretty decent hike, so i'll probably add a save point in that general region.
>>3792541No idea if this is even a good idea, but would it be possible to bake the gradient into a bitmap font or something? Wondering if that might be easier than writing a shader.
The other idea I had would be to render each line of text into a texture, then overlaying the gradient color on top of each
Does undertale yellow have dialogue changes if you backtrack after killing a boss? Like, in undertale, you'd have a lot of npcs in the boss's area go sad if you kill somebody like papyrus or mettaton, so does undertale yellow follow that premise...?
>>3792567The Wild East does
The Dark Ruins and Steamworks don't really have NPCs to do that with, though IIRC Guardener has some NPCs that only spawn on death
Can't remember how much Snowdin Forest changes
>>3792420>and you have to actively take decisions on what your character/party is doingSo, most JRPGs are out?
>>3792567Thereโs a handful of interactions if you backtrack through the ruins
The idea of the soul acting like a parasite infecting Noelle actually creeps me out a lot and I'm usually not creeped out by much. I guess just the meta aspect of it all is kinda spooky to me and trying to think of what exactly the soul is and what if it has goals unknown...to even us. That would be a dumb twist, but still. soul is le Chara, real!?!?!?
>>3792497As long as you have access to a save point in your Castle Town equivalent, I don't think it's necessary. Having saves be exclusive to the Dark World contributes to the separation between the mundane Light World and the magical Dark World.
Although
>>3792523 is also a good idea. It'd be thematically interesting if save points are just the first thing that starts bleeding from the Dark into the Light as things get more serious. I assume Kanako can't see save points, but Cole can point out that seeing one outside of the Dark World is a bit ominous.
>>3792532If the concern is needing to walk all the way across town just to save, what if there was some sort of shortcut from the jail to Cole's house like the igloos in Snowdin or the mailboxes in the Steamworks?
>>3792532Genuine question: Why's it a jail anyway? Wouldn't it make more sense to have it be a dark world equivalent of the Wild East, or a similar sort of town, as opposed to just being a prison?
>>3792819What if you could walk into a dark space like a closet, close your eyes, and focus really hard to appear in the dark jail? Explain as being like the "think of Susie" thing in deltarune. Then when you leave the dark jail, the game spits you out back in whatever closet you snuck off to.
>>3792825It fits thematically with Cole, since he's bringing things to justice
>>3792828Okay, but if this jail is DRY's equivalent of the Castle Town, and therefore where you're bringing all of your recruited darkners once you finish a dark world, isn't that a bit messed up? There's no way *every* darkner you encounter is deserving of imprisonment like that.

Shower thought: What if DRY1's calculator shopkeeper had a unique font that resembled seven-digit displays? This is a shitty mockup, it might look better as all white. If you're willing to use configurations associated with numbers for letters, you can write every letter legibly except for G, K, M, W, V and X. The shopkeeper not being able to say Kanako's name could be a bit of flavor with that in mind: he knows Chujin, Ceroba, but he's not sure if there's a "Canaco" or if that's wrong
>>3792837That's the point. The question is whether its better to let them cease to exist with their dark world or send them to prison forever.
>>3792840DRYanon please do this.
>>3792840Like, just add more segments.
>>3792827That's similar to the other idea I was going to suggest, which is to have other entrances to the jail within town. I think this fits way more thematically though.
Though this sort of begs the question of whether or not Kanako should come with you. Sometimes it may be useful to re-enter the dark world to shuffle around equipment, and that wouldn't be possible with just Cole
>>3792847The idea of not being able to say certain letters is really funny though
>>3792847Its funnier if he has less

>>3792819>bus stop on both sides of town, one takes you to the other>but using it will take a dollar from cole>if you use it even once you'll miss out on a light world event between him and kanako because he doesnt have enough money
>>3792441>no Mylo mentionedLots of comedic potential with that one.
>>3792985i want to go for the implication that humans just have no resistance to hugs, and mylo only resists after a point because she wants to stay distant.
since the flower girls will be half human, they start with relatively high hug tolerance, and are even surprised when the other party members resist hugs
>>3792989Different topic, but out of curiosity, IIRC Sadie used to have lightning elemental magic in your old party menu screenshots, but you've recently referred to her as holy elemental instead. What's the reasoning for the change?
Lightning completes the classic RPG elemental trio with fire and ice, which we've already had in canon with Dreemurs and Holidays respectively.
>>3792992its not a change.
her [elemental pair] is HOLY/ELEM(ent)
her support spells are holy element
her offensive spells are elemental.
she'll have various equip items to change the elemental attunement of her offensive spells, with electric being the default.
on geno, her holy affinity will decrease, reducing the power of her holy spells as her elemental spells get stronger

here, set up the shader and now it works, just took a bit of tweaking since its using the screen UV to position it because for some reason individual uv is per letter and was fucking everything up (but it means that the offset has to change based on the position of the textbox, at least it is only top or bottom of the screen)
>>3792546I'm using the actual font files instead of bitmap, since then I can just add the fonts in and not spend a lot of time tweaking those individually, godot already has a bunch of built in effects, it just didn't have the gradient
>>3792840>>3792847cool idea, but I wonder if there is a font that has those in other languages too (or just enough I suppose), since I want to keep the idea of translating to be easy for other people
though fantranslations could just use the way I was writing the dialogue before then with just replacing letters with numbers
>>3793026>I wonder if there is a font that has those in other languages tooWell, I made that one, and it has a Cyrillic set as well.
>>3793026>but I wonder if there is a font that has those in other languages tooCouldn't you just make the font yourself? Its not like a seven segment display is hard to draw. You just draw it once then rearrange the segments. Any translators could just make their own font with their language's letters.
>>3792977I like this, but I don't like the idea of fast travel being limited use. It could still work if the bus driver just takes pity on you and lets you ride when you have $0 though (but you're still locked out of the money related event)
Asking DRY1 anon: What are you general ideas for the Rescue Rangers RGB? I incidentally brainstormed a full (Light World) backstory and plotline for them at work today and now I want to hear about the real version before my fanon gets too entrenched in my head and I disappoint myself when they're something else
>>3793058>I incidentally brainstormed a full (Light World) backstory and plotline for themMay I see it?
What are Sadie's, Gizmo's and Integrity gal's rooms like?
>>3793073There are six rangers, though Kanako only has the figures for the main trio of Red, Green and Blue. Kanako and Cole are forced to, at Kanako's extreme embarrassment but secret delight, become Magenta Ranger and Yellow Ranger specifically. Axis stoically refuses any attempt to transform into the Cyan Ranger, stating he is a robot.
Kanako talks about the show to Cole a couple times, mentioning her father really not liking it and always having something negative to say about it when it came on TV, leading to her belief that it must be dumb kiddie stuff.
At the climax of the story, when the protagonists are stuck in a bind unable to attack the newly upgraded Toster due to the threat of hurting the hostaged Chujin, he reveals his trump card, and with a piece of tech hidden on his person transforms into the Cyan Ranger, summons his motorbike and escapes, shouting at his fellow "Keyrangers" to get to their vehicles.
Chujin does not secretly love Rescue Rangers RGB, he truly does hate it. Even before Kanako's birth, however, he was a hardcore fan of Keyranger, the original show of which Rescue Rangers is a modernized bastardization. Reusing fight footage from the original show but shooting new footage depicting the rangers as 20XX high school students and changing the Red Ranger to be a human, it is an unforgivable corruption of what Chujin loved.
At Chujin's direction the RGB vehicles and Axis combine into a mech to fight Megatoster (probably a better name for that). The CYM rangers provide support, spending TP to give Axis buffs or weapons between combat rounds reprising the gameplay of Axis fighting Toster on the tram.
Back in the light world, convinced the whole adventure was a dream, Chujin gets deja vu when Kanako asks him what Keyranger is. He reveals he has the entire series on Laserdisc and offers to watch it with her.
>>3793301(TL note: "key" in Keyranger is short for "chroma key" for rangers RGB, but means "key plate" as in printing for the CYM rangers)
>>3793301Kino of the highest degree. Does feel a bit derivative though.
>MegatosterYou could call it the Air Fryer or make its name some sort of pun on that since an air fryer is basically a super charged toaster. Maybe Terfryer, short for "terrific air flyer", (the L becomes an R because of Japanese pronunciation)
As an aside TL notes should be a running gag.
>>3785762Good, made Muffet even more fuckable somehow, but unfinished and I'm a bit afraid the devs bit off more then they could chew with so many route splits so early in the game.
Even UT had to cut down on having three main routes a bit, and the second half of the game(Hotland, CORE, New Home) is combined about half the size of the first half (Ruins, Snowdin, Waterfall)
Hopefully they'll be able to condense down some of the routes and be able to cut down on the size of later areas reasonably.

>>3790050>Flat chest + no tails makes her look like a teenager than a momI must've overlooked the lines about Kanako being Ceroba's daughter or something because I legitimately thought Ceroba was a teen for a long time and was like "aw Clover x Ceroba seems like a cute ship, especially when they go on their adventure together with all the steamworks shenanigans". It really didn't help that her outfit made her seem a lot younger
>>3793653Undertale fans cant read ig
>>3793661But a broken clock can still be right twice a day, Ceroba *should* be shipped with Clover more.
>>3793653>makes her look like a teenager than a momThose things aren't mutually exclusive. Maybe Chujin liked them young.
On the subject of the determination discussion in the last yellow thread. One anon said that the determination injections caused the amalgams to melt and that therefor any amount of DT would do that to a monster. Looking at the logs in the true lab again, Alphys says that she injected bodies, then they didn't die, then later she spammed injections and that's what finally got them to wake up and start moving around again. So there was a period before they were injected with massive amounts of determination in which they seemed to tolerate the initial dose in their system.
Its possible Zartlet was stable because she received a much smaller dose of DT than the amalgams.
>>3793689I think someone in this thread or in the recent UTY thread said that the devs at one point stated that if Zenith Martlet just hadn't had her HP depleted that the Zenith form would've stuck and she would've been fine.
I imagine her taking that DT shot was basically just an artificial equivalent of Undyne getting a massive boost of DT when she turns into Undyne the undying, who also only melts once her HP has been depleted.
>>3793689Undyne the Undying was fine until she got her hp depleted, so maybe DT is mostly ok for monsters who arent close to dying
>>3793988I think there probably is an amount of determination that would melt a healthy monster, but its a lot higher than some anons claim it is.

I keep encountering discussion of DRY1 in the wild and it fills me with hope for all the other fan projects here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT0owFsr2ic
About DRY:
Is Cole a separate entity from the player like how Kris is separate from us? Basically, I'm just asking if we'll ever get to see Cole rip us out and move around on his own through the sheer power of his own jaundice.
>>3794764I think that's just something every DR fangame will have to deal with now, but in DRY1, no, I never had any intention of doing that, except something close in the weird route, but since I decided to scrap it that is gone now (it also involved kanako)
DRY1 won't have titans or too much meta stuff besides kanako pointing out weird game mechanics, it will be a mostly straight forward story
>>3794756Youtube comment section under a video of with a western style cover of Black Knife.
>>3794765That's cool. I'd recommend having a scene early on to make it clear that Cole's SOUL is his own and he doesn't have the same relationship with the player as Kris does. Maybe have a scene where Cole's SOUL gets ripped out of him and he immediately collapses.
>>3794785I don't think that's necessary. Actually I think it would be better if DRYanon just didn't talk about that stuff at all since its not relevant to the story here.
>>3794765>kanako pointing out weird game mechanicsOh boy, you better be extra careful with that, there's no easier way to turn your writing into modern ironic slop. Even Undertale almost never did it, despite its reputation for being "meta" and "subversive", some of its most powerful moments rely on game mechanics being accepted in-universe. In fact, I wouldn't recommend mocking your own game mechanics unless you are actually planning to subvert them somehow - think how Susie pointed out flaws in ACT system as a way to introduce *-Action mechanic in chapter 2 (and I'm pretty sure it will have some plot repercussions further on).
https://rentry.co/b2k8cbgn
I wanted to write my thoughts on BunBun and my opinion on how DRY1 can use its secret bosses, and it ended up turning into an almost 1500 word essay. I think there's a lot you can do with a character like this for Cole's character, despite it being a Kanako-centric character plotwise.
>>3794748Don't feel sorry, good work takes time. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've been cooking
>>3794848>https://rentry.co/b2k8cbgnplease dryanon, don't do this.
>>3794848>>3794880I have to elaborate because this really bothers me. That was horrific, and not in a cool or narratively interesting way, just a gut wrenching and upsetting kind of way. That kind of stuff is something I'd expect from a horror game, not Deltarune. Sure there are scary things, but not that degree of psychological body horror. It genuinely ruined my night.
I'm not to tell you to go fuck yourself or tell you you're a terrible writer. But please anon, don't do that again.
>>3794848that's actually better than the idea I had in mind so I might implement parts of this, thanks, however I do agree a bit with
>>3794880>>3794884I wouldn't do it exactly in the same way, in fact I prob wont do the body thing at all, but the rest of the suggestions could work if modified to fit with what I have in mind
we can hopefully reach a middle ground
>>3794785>>3794792also regarding this, I agree that its better to just not mention it at all but I have a small something planned that kinda touches on it but doesn't go full meta like DR is doing
>>3794833on this its just small things in optional talks like the one she has immediately after the warden tutorial fight, or she not knowing what a "menu button" is when reading that message on the first split up segment, not really anything major
>>3794973Please don't turn Bun Bun into an evil schizo boss. He's too nice for that. That would be an evil thing to do to both him and Kanako.
>>3795027that was actually my original plan which was pretty dumb and edgy in retrospect, but with anon's writeup I am rewriting it into something more nuanced
>>3795034I think just a tragic nice guy like Ramb would be a much better fit for him. He wouldn't do anything to hurt Kanako, especially not traumatize her by making their last encounter be the one where she's forced to kill him.
>>3795053Here's a thought. Maybe he was offered the chance of becoming a schizo boss, but turned it down. And threw his shadow crystal/equivalent schizo item over the edge of the clouds. As a result the unknown criminal who was hiding out in the alley found it and went schizo instead.
Bunbun himself simply accepts his fate because he only wants what's best for Kanako, even if it means being left behind. And later he turns to stine because he no longer belongs in the dark world. His last interaction is Kanako crying and telling him not to go, to which he responds that he isn't. Even if can't go on adventures with her anymore, he'll still be here for her, just like he's always been. The quiet little friend on her shelf who's always willing to listen and give her a hug when she needs one.
You should also include a scene with her hugging the doll in the light world after its all over, trying not to cry.
>>3795065I just realized this could tie into the central moral question of imprisoning darkners to keep them vs letting them be lost. At the end of the chapter, kanako is left conflicted as to whether its better to take all of her room's darkners to the dark jail so she can still talk to them and let them live their lives in the jail, or whether it's better to let them return to being regular objects. She doesn't know which one she wants nor which one is best for the darkners.
You can't choose for her and this decision is left unresolved because she can't decide either.

>>3794880>>3794884I'm sorry my write-up had such a negative effect on you; I am someone who enjoys horror aspects and putting characters through the wringer, but it's perfectly understandable that someone would be entirely against that. It's a matter of preference and yours is respectable; even without the Stroggification stuff I think flashbanging an imaginary friend with reality-destroying eldritch knowledge and telling it to cope would lead to both an interesting and admittedly horrifying character arc, which can be taken or left.
>>3795068On this subject, I think we're going to find out that the reason Warden really doesn't want innocent Darkners in the Dark Jail is that he's aware that he's in an unstable, abandoned mine and he doesn't want anyone hanging out there more than necessary. The Dark Jail isn't Castle Town because someone fucking around could get everyone, light or dark, killed. The locked door is where the entrance was sealed, and the final Chapter is the Outlaw going in there and Kanacole, against the Warden's pleas, following her into a place of no light whatsoever.
>>3794748anyway here is a clip as I promised, the chest shakes every few seconds and turns its eye near the player as suggested by anons here
might make the party have hurt/surprised expression when the anim plays
>>3795152right another thing I forgot to mention is that I refactored the code that shows those battle messages between turns/before selecting an action, the previous one was really annoying to set since I had to manually add it to each enemy combo, but now it picks and selects it automatically by just having the combo specific ones in its own array and all the single enemy ones in their respective enemy data
as well as added generic cases so the game shouldnt just say just "test battle" if no messages were found
>>3795144I'm not fundamentally against putting the characters through the wringer. Its putting such intense body horror in Deltarune that I have a big problem with. If this wasn't a beloved childhood plush doing this in my cute heartfelt furry games I wouldn't have nearly as much of a problem with it.
As for how darkners would take that kind of revealation, it still seems out of character. A darkner won't go against its nature, regardless of how much insight it gains. Even the schizos are ultimately just fulfilling their intended role. Jevil is still the wild card in the game, who only wants to have fun and breaks the rules to do it. Spamton is just as much a malcontent sleezy scam artist as he was before, he's just using unusual means. Bunbun exists to comfort Kanako, so it would be anathema to existence to ever do something that would upset her. We see what happens when a darkner like that gains meta knowledge, you get Ralsei.
If you really want to do something upsetting with the character (which I would say is unnecessary and ill advised this early in the story) it'd be more fitting and in character just to kill him.
reposting here too, doodle time
>>3795339nice, very nice, thanks sig
I gotta remain determined if I want to see DRY to the end, and I also need to add more moments between cole and kanako, hopefully I can make the LW segments have more stuff to do in them once i finish the ch 1 revamp
>>3795248It's precisely because it's a character Kanako innately cares about that I would choose it to go through something like this. It becomes more personal and has much more of an impact on her than if it was someone she had only met minutes-to-hours ago. Imagine how much more pissed Kanako would be at Toster and the Outlaw after watching what their actions led to with BunBun.

>>3795430>t's precisely because it's a character Kanako innately cares about that I would choose it to go through something like this. That just makes it a cheap gut shot towards the player. Sure its got shock value and leaves a sour taste in the player's mouth, but it doesn't do much narratively or thematically for the characters. Kanako is already furious with Toaster for kidnapping her father, all you'd have to do make her hate him is make her believe Toaster is going to hurt him.
If you wanted to do a meaningful gutshot to the player, there's so much more you could do with him. Instead of cheap body horror and a boss fight, you could have him knowingly betray the party in secret, and he only gets caught because of the player being extra observant. Then when you catch him in the act Kanako confronts him, and Bun Bun says he's deeply sorry and didn't want it to go this way, then he openly betrays them. You could still have your boss fight, but instead of being the tired mascot horror "cute character gets roboticized into evil monster" trope, he summons a pair of really powerful darkners to attack them while he acts the party leader and healer. And during the fight he spends the whole thing begging her to lay down her weapons, to just listen to him, all the while Kanako refuses to listen to his explanation because she feels angry and betrayed. Kanako is so angry that the ahe stops listening to the player and starts doing really strong attacks on the enemies. It ends with Kanako screaming and crying while beating the enemies to a pulp, until her last attack hits Bun Bun and insta swoons him.
Kanako instantly regrets her decision and tries to apologize. Bun bun stops her and tells her that its his fault. Then explains that reason he did all this was to protect her. He knew she was hurting in the real world and finally saw a chance to be more than just a shoulder to cry on. So he tried to trap her in the land of the sky (1/2)
>>3795711(2/2)
Not because he wanted to keep her for himself, but because he thought she would be happy in a world of friends and smiles where nothing can hurt her. He knew how much Cole's impending departure would hurt her too and said that one would be able to take him away here. When asked about Chujin he says that he thought Chujin would be happy in his world of machines. After all, he'd always preferred to Kanako's world. He believed Toaster wouldn't hurt Chujin, that he adored him as the other machines did. Clearly he was wrong, about everything, he admits. Kanako and Chujin was never be happy being forced apart in their own private cages, regardless of how flowery and guilded they may be. And if even who, who feels nothing but selfless love for Kanako, can hurt her like this, there's no telling what Toaster will do to Chujin. Maybe he was even wrong about his intentions, after all, he did in some part just want to be more useful to Kanako.
Then he dies while Kanako desperately says she sorry and begs him not to go. The first thing Kanako does after her normal exit the dark world scene is run to her room, where she finds a pile of fluff on her shelf where Bunbun used to be.
If you do a pacifist run then it might be possible to save him. He's still mangled by that attack, but when Kanako finds him in the light world, she says that she'll fix him. Then in later chapters you can meet him in the dark jail, he's alive and well, but has a lot more stitches than before. He says Kanako is keeping him in her inventory, but says it wouldn't help anyone to come out of it any dark worlds besides this one. So instead he's just a key item, that can maybe be used to hug for a +1 to hp outside of combat (hp stands for happiness, not hit points). [This is a separate stat that has nothing to do with battles]
Anyways that's how I think a Bunbun boss should be done, if it were to be done. Though I'd much rather it not be.
>>3795430>It won't be intended as a suggestion for DRY1anon, just me fully getting out the ideas building in my head. That's fine. I fully endorse it writing edgy fanfics, I just really didn't want that added to DRY.
Anyways here's a neat idea I had. What if there were actually two Bun Buns. The first one Kanako got at an extremely young age. She played with all the time and loved it to death. Then one day she accidentally ripped it, and immediately went crying to daddy because he can fix anything. Chujin being the walking ego he was, agreed and tried to fix it. Key word tried. He only mangled it and made everything worse. As a last act of desperation he tried removing the only undamaged part, the head, and putting on a cool robot body. He was satisfied with his work, but when Ceroba saw it she said it was terrifying and refused to let him traumatize the poor girl. So then Ceroba went out and tracked another of the exact same model of dolls, paid through the nose for it, and then gave it Chujin so he could give that to Kanalo instead. Then when Kanako got it, she was none the wiser and went on playing with it like it was the original. Meanwhile Chujin couldn't bear to discard a creation he worked so hard on. So instead he hid it in a secluded corner of his workshop and vowed to give it to his son, whenever he had one. That never happened and eventually he forgot about it.
Fast forward to the creation of the dark world and there are now two Bun Buns. The Bun Bun gets himself stroggified thing is a fakeout, the real reason he went down there was because it was the most secluded place in the house and he didn't want Kanako to see him like that. The reason Bionic Bun attacks the party is because Bun Bun 2 told him that if they ever should come down there, that if he killed Cole, the save would be loaded and Kanako would forget she ever saw them. Bionic Bun knows its beyond Bun Bun's nature to be able to want to hurt Kanako, so he believes him and agrees.

Anyways I think is a lot more in line with how UT and DR handled their limited body horror elements. The amalgams and werewire are both shown to be not as bad as they first appeared and are given a happy ending.
Kanako would fix Bun Bun 2 in the light world, and would take Bionic Bun upstairs with her and give him love even if she does find him pretty creepy.
>>3794751>autosaged right at the enddang, i was hopeful that we'd be able to hit 500.
>>3795916I hope this project will actually get finished
>>3795929Fat chance unless they abandon all UT/DR parts and go full original to gain motivation from possibility of earning some money back for all the work they're going to need to put into it.
>>3795916Yes she is. Do you have any more pictures of her?
Welp, /v/ thread's gone. Lasted nearly two days, not a bad run at all.
I assume the standard UTY /v/ thread will go up sometime over the weekend?

Somebody asked about suggestions for Gizmo's room in the other thread, so I'm posting my ideas. The two things we know of him are that he's a gamer and that he's a space man in the dark world. So here's my ideas for stuff in his room.
>Loads of game consoles, games, and controllers
>Wires all over the floor
>Tube TV and LCD TV stacked on top of each other
>Flash Gorgon posters line the walls
>bag of tuna flavored potato chips
>scratching post

>>3796088>interesting but might be too much, I will consider what to do when I resume chapter 2, thanks for the suggestions anywayThose last two posts were suggestions for that anon's fic. I don't think you should touch the roboticized Bun Bun idea at all in DRY. I think it would be a VERY bad idea.
I don't think you should do evil Bun Bun at all either, even in the non-horror way that I suggested in those other two posts (the ones where he has the minions, not the two Bun Buns one). I suggested it only as an idea for if you really must do it, because that is probably the best way to do it. I just think its an old, tired, and overdone trope. Its the point now where its more common to have subversions like that than it is to have a nice character who is just genuinely nice with no ulterior motive.
on the subject of those enemies, wouldn't it make more sense for an upgraded penciler to be a mechanical pencil?
>>3796092I'm gonna agree with this guy, I don't think there should be a BunBun fight at all. I do like the idea of him "joining your party" as an item or otherwise acting schizoboss-like (eg. Ramb), but I don't think we should fight him directly. Something like a Queen-Berdly situation could potentially work, but I think something more akin to the Shadow Mantle fight makes most sense if he were to have a schizoboss sidequest. For example, an idea I had was that you fight a superboss alongside him (think Fun Gang + Gerson versus the Titan), and at the end there's a heartfelt cutscene where he becomes an equip.
>>3796109>>3796092I'll figure something out by then, I have been brainstorming with all the ideas anons post, at least that hasn't been added in the game yet so there is time to change it
>>3796109>Something like a Queen-Berdly situation could potentially workIf you mean pre-plug Berdly and Queen, maybe I could see that working. Even then it feels like a stretch for a character like Bun Bun to act against Kanako, because he loves her too selflessly to hurt her, and is too wise to fall for any sort of manipulation tactics Toaster could manage. If you mean like the plugging during the fight, it runs the risk of being too much like that body horror post from earlier, or being an exact retread of the plug concept from DR chapter 2.
> I do like the idea of him "joining your party" as an item or otherwise acting schizoboss-likeHim being a schizo that refused the boss part would be kino of the highest degree. The maddening power of meta knowledge is always clawing at his mind, but his pure and innocent love for Kanako is just too strong to ever let him succumb to it. Since Toby drew a connection between the temptation of the one ring in LOTR and the schizo knowledge in DR, I'll draw one here. He's like Sam when being tempted by the Ring. It simply has nothing to offer him that would replace the joy he gets from Kanako's smile.
>but I think something more akin to the Shadow Mantle fight makes most sense if he were to have a schizoboss sidequestMaybe he's taken the original schizo script the outlaw gave him, and recycled its elements into a constructive quest which exists to teach Kanako an important life lesson. Maybe it involves facing an old childhood trauma of hers involving an old movie or book that seriously scared her at a young age. And at the end of it she learns and becomes a stronger person, but without needing to become a killer to do it. The fight wouldn't be against him, but some other Darkner, which Kanako is afraid of.
>>3796130>If you mean like the plugging during the fight, it runs the risk of being too much like that body horror post from earlier, or being an exact retread of the plug concept from DR chapter 2.Yeah, I was even thinking of the body horror idea when I said that. I honestly do like that idea, but I agree that BunBun's character can be taken in different directions to tell a story just as, or more, moving.
>Maybe he's taken the original schizo script the outlaw gave him, and recycled its elements into a constructive quest which exists to teach Kanako an important life lesson.I'd like to see this happen, too: instead of using the forbidden knowledge he has to harm others, he turns it into something positive and passes wisdom onto Kanako. While perhaps too on-the-nose, I think the established trope of schizobosses turning into items drives the point home: he literally becomes Kanako's strength, and she takes him wherever she goes.
You bring up the theme of fear, and
>>3794848 brings up the theme of abandonment. These gave me an idea tangentially related to both: fear of rejection. Chujin obviously dislikes Cole and refuses to accept him as part of the community, and Cole is concerned with being forcefully ejected from the hometown he's settled into; what if Kanako struggled with similar anxiety over not being good enough? Ceroba is quick to anger (as evidenced by her freaking out over losing Foxlace iirc), and Chujin has delusions of grandeur: perhaps these trickle down in their strict expectations for Kanako. Perhaps she is worried she's not being as good of a friend to Cole as she should be in his time of need. Kanako could struggle with self-doubt and an inferiority complex, and BunBun's schizoquest could revolve around beginning to address that.
Others have criticised Kanako's characterisation as being rather bland so far, and maybe this is a direction she can be taken.
