You might consider The Caligula Effect. It's closer to a Persona knock-off. But "songs" are used to mind control people and shape the virtual reality they're trapped in.

may I pitch a 3DS game called Stella Glow

a 3D Tactical RPG where magic uses use their magic by singing and the really powerful spells have full blown songs and the singers are big name singers. Despite being an english dub, the songs are in Japanese and one of the early singers has their songs sung by Nanjou Yoshino

Played and greatly enjoyed Stella Glow; it gave me the same feelings as when I beat Ar no Surge. Hilda is the best girl in my honest opinion.

Even though singing is gay I still love Ar Tonelico songs and wish the series got something new

I mean the series was never good. The best one was 2, the rest were just bad with great music and nice art direction.

Eternal Sonata, Omega Quintet and Tokyo Mirage Sessions might be relevant.

Fairy Fencer F Refrain Chord also has song magic and its an SRPG spinoff.
Whats interesting on this is that the enemy side also have a singer and when both player side and the enemy side starts singing, the music also got mixed up too.
Gameplay wise, when both singer's area of effect overlaps, their song's effect got amplified, making their song's effect more potent.

For anyone emulating AT1 with PCSX2: increasing internal resolution is A MUST. All sprites are internally hi-res and the game resizes them to match PS2's resolution.
Also, the lag on entering menu happens on the real hardware too, it's not a problem of the emulator.

Got through phase one in Ar tonelico 1, I wonder what phase 2 will look like?
