I actually don't even know how that puzzle is meant to be solved. I always just look up the answers. I've never seen it referenced anywhere in game, that I've noticed.

What alternative way can this be interpreted? Sounds like a sad cope for not being able to do a simple math question.

You've got 7 families, each with one man, one wife, and 7 children. So 7(1+1+7)=63 people. The only way you could fuck this up is if you assume that the man's 7 children and the wife's 7 children are entirely separate, which would be retarded.

This. The fact that someone says you should be able to solve this makes me assume it's a trick question. So the 7 guys probably each have 7 wives. He just dumps loads in them constantly and had 7 kids with each of the 7 wives. Not that hard to jump to that conclusion when you think it's a trick question.

Precisely the reason why I fucking hate mathematicians. These fuckers just can't test you on how well you know formulas, equations and rules, no! Every problem is a trick question with dubious wording and solutions like "you're just not thinking in three dimensions" (on a problem presented entirely in 2D) and if you try to think outside the box in practice you get BTFO'ed for doing so by the same people.

If 1 man has 7 children, that is 1x7+1=8 people.
If 7 men have 7 children, 7x7+7=56 people
Double that for the same math with the women 2x56=112

Throwing husbands and wives in there is just a social factor and red herring, has no bearing on "each have 7 children" They could each be the brady bunch parents.
