Diamonds in the rough
I'm tired of people talking about the same shit all the time. Post some more Obscure RPGs that you enjoy. Let me see those lesser gems.

Pic Related was really cool for what I expected to be a waifu simulator (which it still is). One of the few JRPGs where you have an abundance of dialogue options and the game even sort of molds your personality around the choices.

That game was cool, it felt more like a RTS at times than an RPG desu
Best girls were Meline and Tricia. Silverneil was good too, but her ending was ass.

The Precursors.
Went unnoticed due to russian first release, bugs and overshadowed by Mass Effect, but it's Space RPG/FPS while also mixing in secondary elements like space battles pretty well.
Better than Starfield, really

I went with Frayne, I probably would have gone for Tricia, but she is barely in the game honestly.

I mainly like this game for the gameplay; each battle occurs on a unique battlefield and you balance movement vs attacking in a rtwp-like system. You can get really overpowered if you equip the right materia (or whatever it's called). But yeah the girls are nice

Arc the Lad collection!
Everyone on this board seems to have stopped at one, but Arc 2 was one of the best games I have ever played and honestly the best of it's era.
>side quests gallore
>monster catching
>battle tower 6 years before pokemon had it in game
>all sorts of minigames
>crafting
>goes from babby's first SRPG to unforgiving relentless battles
>amazing OST by T-SQUARE
I honestly don't get why folks don't mention it as much.

Can confirm. I absolutely hated Arc the Lad 1 so I never tried the second one.

Vandal hearts 2.
Already on my second playthrough and planning a third with a mod that changes the gameplay.
Vandal Hearts 1 was okay but 2 is what hooked me the most.

I loved GL series so much I played them in Japanese.
Best girl was your fairy of course.

it's a prologue to the main game, the thing is that their is a ton of secret shit in one that will make two much more fun.
For example going for the forbidden dungeon will give a secret character that makes things more fun.

i was very disappointed that the other growlanser game don't allow to rename your PC
Why not?
The only one that i found reasonable that you can't rename your PC was G3 as the game asks do you remember your name? if you say name you use the default one if you say no the people that "find" you name you

But they do?
In GL 1 the MC has no default name. Default is player.
GL2 doesnt let you name the MC but the protag of 1 is playable. He gets a default name but you can change it if you talk to an npc.
GL3 lets you name the protag. And you can transfer the protag of 1 if you have a GL2 save.
Important to note Working Designs localized 2 and 3 and they are notorious for altering dialogue and even some systems. In GL case they deliberately removed the choice to name the protag of 1 and 3 due to voice acting concerns (Or lazyness to work around the lack of name).
Growlanser V has several chapters before you play as the protag who can be named.
Growlanser VI protag can be named. The protag of V is a playable character and you can transfer his name and learned skills from V (I think you get to name him regardless but I forgot).

PSP has more content(characters, events for characters/nps and routes).
The only possible downside of PSP may be that you feel the extra characters don't always fit the flow as well (like Tricia at times feels like an obvious extra tacked in), but I do not think it detracts enough to not play PSP version

Played it first in English and now in my language Spanish.
I am talking of the mod that turns it into a normal your turn then the enemy srpg.
So many people seemed to dislike the unique battle system. I really liked it for how unique it is and didn't find it that easy, at least not wantingbto lose units/MC.
Found the series last year and 2 is already one of my favorite games.
Also the fucking king from GoT debuted in VH2 lol.

>>3823671
Its more involved than say Fire Emblem or Persona thats for sure.
Basically your choices always have an effect on relationships during the story.
Game every now and then gives you "vacations" where you hang out around the village.
During these you usually do the events related to the characters so you are always working on your relationship.
Eventually after you do them and when the game almost ends you choose who to be your lover.
Go on a date scene and now the waifu will be blushing in the status screen!
And then the ending based on the character you chose. As there are 2 ending with completely different outcomes. The original ending gives you a nice CG.

>>3823516
PS2 has nothing that isn't in the psp game.
What does have is a sequel visual novel called Return.
After you read it you can transfer the save from the rpg to the visual novel to get new unique ending CG with characters you romanced.

One more thing, you can easily miss one romancing stone, that mailbox one after iga is a bitch so check it every time you meet a spirit..
You don't need the silk belt, it's not the end of the world if you don't have it.

>>3823661
The third could be better, the world felt too safe in comparison to two. Also it didn't have the monster arena and as many weird party members. It was good to see how everyone was doing post second game though.

>have Poco do something every turn
like buffs, because not using him is going to bite you in the ass in the second game

>always check the mailbox at arc's house
there is a stone you can miss, the third in specific

>save all your revival tonics
You will need them, they revive characters with full mp, and will be useful in a certain dungeon

>kukuru and chongara
Get kururu high enough level to have revive and then don't bother, don't worry about leveling chongara

>do all the training secessions at Amidar
You get some great prices.

>Revisit the Forbidden dungeon when you are above level 40
Don't just level arc and tosh, cycle everyone in battle /and when they run out of mp have them killed off, then have kukuru revive them, and when she runs out MP then use the revival tonics.

The reward at the bottom is astronimonical, but destroy the chest on the bottom floor before defeating the boss or else you will never get a chance to get it again.

Tips for arc 2

>TAKE YOUR TIME
Don't be in a rush to progress with the story. Whenever you are in a new town, check the hunter's guild. Do the missions before progressing with the plot, some disappear after certain plot points. You can do hunters missions even if you don't have a hunter in your party......Also there will be a party of the game when many countries are open for exploration, just dick around and look everywhere.

>Search for diekbeck ruins
His final upgrades make him really useful, so be sure to enter each one if you find it

>Tame monsters
Catch anything and everything and replace them with better monsters, once you completed enough auto battles in the arena you will be able to enter your real party members, which means EASY LEVELING. You will be fighting monsters 40 lvls above your's with no equips so you will be apple to level up really quick

>Choko/time forest
you can get her as early as the first time you are on Palencia isle.
> Enter the time forest and head to Tokoko Village (west, east, west, east, west, east, north, south, north)
> Meet Choko and her Father and spend the night
>Choko leads you to the Graveyard (talk to her every screen and read the headstone)
> At the entrance, Choko should mention a journey
> When you leave, she should be in your party.

VH2 is a grossly underrated game, despite some issues in terms of combat system it is easily one of the best actually dramatic war stories in the genre to this day, no idea why people glaze Matsuno's games so hard for that but VH2 gets no mention anywhere despite being much better written.

Anonymous No.3825158 >>3825198

The drama is actually fairly well constructed until the very end where there's a couple of details that are kinda stupid.
The part where Joshua accidentally reunites with his sister and has a mental breakdown after leaving her and remembering his childhood was incredibly touching and felt very human.

In what way?
Maybe you mean the whole Yuri thing or the MC/Adele arc?

>>3825154
It is indeed very underrated.
I also like that unlike FFT or TO is that VH2 looks the part. Cant take the serious moments of FFT with that chibi art or TO with the characters with oversized botoms.
VH2 is very gritty and gruesome and the art direction really complements that.

>>3825158
Absolutely the best part of the game.
I was expecting more from the childhood friends, namely Yuri and Clive, but they needed more.
Nicola on the other hand is very interesting and involved.
Funny enough the recent drama with FFT Remaster is no spanish translation as it was never translated I think but we did get VH2 localized.
