The Owlcat trio, Pillars Of Eternity 1 & 2 and NWN mostly. I don't recommend Stone Shard. Not because it wouldn't be a great game, but because it will never be completed. The developer is a drug addict in Eastern Europe who was caught buying drugs with the money he got from Early Access sales. Which is why there was no progress made on the game for several years there: he was in fucking prison. For being a druggie loser instead of working on the game.

Lifeprotip, kids, never fucking EVER spend money on Early Access. Ever. People used to get paid to playtest video games. It was a job that you got paid to do. And in those days, when video games were released, they were relatively bugfree and fully featured. And only 20 dollars.

You mean just buying drugs? That's his money from his job, he can spend it how he wants. What drugs? Knowing slavtards and the huge stick they have up their asses while drinking themselves to death, it's probably just weed.

It was drama in his Discord server while it was happening two or three years ago. He's made a few updates after he got out of prison, but it's still slow as fuck and nothing really meaningful has improved about the game. It's been years and years since he started on it.

Heart warming that indie RPGs can be used to fund drug binges. I just assumed all these devs were nerds.

No, it was meth and heroin. And he "didn't have time" to work on the game because he was passed out or working odd jobs... to earn rent money... because he spent all the Early Access money on drugs. The point of Early Access is so the dev can stay home and work on the game instead of flipping burgers. You work eight hours flipping burgers, that's time you can't spend writing code or painting sprites or whatever. That's the entire point of Early Access, anon. This is not complicated.

Meth and heroin is an odd combination.
The point of early access is to make money selling an unfinished game. You're over complicating this and moralizing.

What happens with old abandoned indie games with these sales where no one touches it except to withdraw the $60 a year they get from steam deposited to some bank account? I assume Steam sends some email to their account about these sales they could sign up for that no one ever reads. I'm thinking of Dead State.

The punishment for an abuse of trust is that no one will trust you. The problem is that there's an endless supply of suckers and word of mouth about reputation doesn't always travel forever. I'm reminded of how Project Zomboid was seen as a total scam when they took forever to do anything and then posted about how they had all their work that they didn't back up stolen on a laptop. Now people think that the dev is trustworthy, though I heard the latest update and the time it took soured some new people. I just don't engage with early access ever and never have.

Sweetheart. The entire reason we're having this conversation is because I explicitly warned people that he's a druggie grifter stealing money from people who thought they were funding the development of a game he has no intention of completing.
So.
Ya, you were warned not to be stupid enough to "put your trust" in him. Trusting him doesn't mean he's gonna do something. That's why it's trust. That's why it's Early Access: because he's not legally bound to do fucking anything for you. That's literally the whole point of Early Access. And I'm warning you to not be a sucker about it.
It is indeed your fault for being a naive dumbass funding druggies in Eastern Europe. You can't just stomp your little feet and expect that he's gonna change because you feel entitled to something. The reality is that he's a drug-addicted loser. That's just fact. That's the reality. Fucking deal with it.
DUMB fuck.

If "don't do drugs, kids!" worked, no one would be doin' drugs. The lifeprotip is to be realistic and deal with reality as it is, not with pithy slogans that were the subject of intense mockery in the nineteen-fucking-nineties.

Fucking Stone Shard. I remember buying that, playing a bit then stopping because they were talking about adding custom character creation soon. Every year or so I look up to see if they've added it yet, mostly as an inside joke to myself, and they still haven't.
There's still people defending them not doing it yet every time I check though
I'd probably be mad, but iirc it was pretty cheap. Maybe on sale or something idk

I buy early access games all the time, all you have to do is buy games that are already fun experiences in themselves. You don't buy EA and hope the game gets good, you buy it when it already counts as a good game in your eyes, so that the worst case scenario is you get a good game and the best case scenario is the game gets better and you got it for cheaper than everyone else. I haven't even touched Caves of Qud since it's 1.0 release, because I had my fun with it way before that.

better read the tldr; version bellow
> surprisingly good main story and side stories, I'm talking better than some AAA games
> fun exploration, especially in early levels
> progression/loot system is not ocean-deep but does the job and is intuitive
> it's fun to do battles, they are pretty dynamic and enemies get new interesting abilities/gimmicks as you progress
> personally I really enjoyed the looks and the art style of the game
> level/game length is just right and doesn't overstay its welcome
personally for me it's easily an 8/10 and worth every penny
