It's free play week, Return to Vana'diel.
What's new?

I dont have time to play XI anymore. I think the only way I could enjoy XI is if I had a team of slaves grinding for me to keep my character geared and ready for endgame. Part of me wants to go back, to be 14 again when I could ostensibly live in vana'diel from the second I crawled out of bed until I'm exhausted and ready for sleep. But at 38, with a job and a family, I can't. Love that world, but I chose this one.

Maybe they converted it into and idler, just a sever that condoned botting completely, then I could play for a few HNM pops or end game activities A few times a week.

Just play on Catseye.
All the shit you liked but without the hours required.

Do they let you bot there? I think even with increased rates and QoL features it'd be too much for me to stay afloat and ready for an endgame LS's events since I can only devote my full attention maybe an hour or two sporadically a week to a game like that.

I really think the only way I'm playing XI again is if I can just park my character with a bot 24/7 and play it like a glorified idler. Which I don't think will exist. No server, retail or private is just going to say, "no, go ahead, bot away". As much as I love spending hour upon hour killing the same monsters over and over again (unironically, I have very fond memories of grinding in XI and keeping that EXP chain going), or camping an HNM against 5 other LSs as you shoot the shit with friends for hours only to lose claim yet again, I just don't have the time anymore. I loved the game, love that world, and I wish I could still play it, but I don't think I can. God I love it though, its how I chose to spend my teens and twenties, a part of me still yearns for Vana'diel.

Since I've never played Blue Mage before, I didn't understand how it worked.

I mean, I've played Blue Mage in other FF games, and I read up on how the "learning" mechanics are supposed to work. But what it doesn't telling (Which I had to read from other testimonies) is that you don't always get the "Character has Learned ____" message after battle.

I ran around for like 2 hours before I realized I had learned Pollen. It doesn't show up in your Magic Command list until you "set" it. And the "set spells " option is up in the corner with the Sort options I usually ignore.

I spent a bunch of sparks on Blue Magic Skill books. Because I "accidently" leveled up to level 20 in those 2 hours just trying waiting for monsters to use their skills. I thought I might have missed out on a lot of skills. Namely the skills that require 0 skill to learn. But I found the guides are pretty inaccurate. Like, "Foot Kick" is listed as a low level rabbit skill, but I was able to learn it in the Dunes at level 20 from a lizard I think. I got a handful of others skills from other monsters without trying.

Never played it. I heard they let you solo now but how bad is the grinding? On a scale from swtor to osrs.
Also apparently thr steam client sucks ass, is that still the case?

>how bad is the grinding?
depends
personally i think its its pretty enjoyable and chill so i dont really notice how intense of a grind it is unless its really brutal
leveling is really fast, as are merits (lv75+ alternate leveling system, kinda like talents in other games?). JPs(max level "leveling") are pretty brutal

I've been stuck on the Voracious Resurgence content for years. I can't solo that dang tarutaru, and it's such a chore to get to, it's 10-15 minutes to hit all the pillars to open the shrine in the desert. And then in 2 minutes he wipes out all my Trusts.
