I really hate fantasy worlds in which magic is accessible to everyone.

Gnomes are dwarves with dwarvism.

Titans built Earthen as slaves, and Dwarves are nth generation removed Earthen, and Troggs are badly baked Dwarves, Titan mistakes.

Gnomes are their own thing afaik, I don't even know if they have origin stories in WoW, which is a garbage setting anyway that gets retconned three times per expansion now.

PF, gay dumping ground that it is, handled gnomes better than I've seen most with their first world idea and bleaching. Probably the best idea they came up with in the entire setting.

Warcraft has always been a toothless setting. I got filtered by wow character creation as a kid because it felt like I couldn't make anything cool

>Titans come to planet Azeroth (which is also a baby Titan now)
>have autistic vision about how the world should look like, from landscape to inhabitants
>start 3D printing workers, earthen and other similar variants, 3D printer fucks up first batch, making troggs (some escape)
>realize this planet has pests (Old Gods and their servants)
>3D print warriors of various races
>smack the meanest old god, said god fuck ups the land the point of thinking negative thoughts is enough to get overwhelmed and lose control of yourself, also soil is unusable
>Titans imprison other old gods instead of killing them
>Keepers(Jannies) are placed on Azeroth to keep an eye on the planet while Titans reshape other planets
>old gods over time corrupt titan creations from lowliest Earthen to mighty Keepers, workers and warriors turn from stone and metal to flesh
>some of these former titan creations are totally chill with idea of being created by them and view them favorably
>others turn on keepers and usurp power

Gnomes have the same story. They started out as mechagnomes, smaller slaves made to operate the machinery of the titan builds. And the curse of flesh turned them mortal (and gave them free will), same as dwarves it's not just evolution.
>nooo the curse of flesh is a retcon
It's not, Dwarves archeologists were looking for their origins during vanilla WoW and found it in Northrend during WotLK. It's consistent and a cool origin.

While the wheels were coming off as early as BC and certainly by the end of Wrath, I think Wrath still is a good endpoint before it had to confront the Legion and close off the series.
But then it kept going on.
