Is there a site like the Visual novel database but for ranking RPGs (especially JRPGs)?
I just want to get a jrpg recommendation that isn't final fantasy

>ranking
Vndb is more for applying tags than meaningful ranking.
Might as well use opencritic

You could probably use Backloggd or Grouvee or Glitchwave or Metacritic and filter for JRPGs/RPGs

Backloggd is the lesser evil imo

All those categories are fine, I just want an rpg I can spend a long time playing that is truly good.
A dark story is a bonus in my view since it adds realism, the best stories are somewhat dark. That said humour and the game not taking itself too seriosuyl is also extremely important to me.

A lot of rpgs that I dont like either take themselves too seriously, or are unrealistic due to popular anime tier cringe dialouge

can you give examples of some games you did like and enjoy? that will be a better indicator of what you are looking for.

Of the few rpgs I have played, I enjoyed Atelier Dusk, Arcanum, VTMB, an rpgmaker eroge called Claire's quest (although the quality rapidly dropped after the first few hours of gameplay)

That´s because most JRPG IPs went under at some point or another after the PS2 era. They just couldn´t keep up with the rise of cost and the demand of relative quality expected of newer games. Essentially you don´t get recommendations because there are less JRPGs being produced and most of the ones produced are not worth recommending.

In any case here are some recommendations that are not FF:

>Valkyrie Profile and Valkyrie Profile Silmeria
>Vagrant Story
>Saga Frontier II
>Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
>Shadow Hearts I and II
>Xenosaga I and III (Yes, i know it´s weird not to include II)
>Tales of Abyss and Tales of Berseria
>Ni no Kuni wrath of the white witch
>Dragon Quest XI
>Star Ocean I, II and III
>Legend of dragoon
>Tactics Ogre
>Lost Odyssey (good luck with this one)
>.Hack//Infection, Mutation, Outbreak and Quarentine (these are 4 games but in truth they are just one game in 4 parts)
>Folklore
>Tales of Arise (it was okeyish)
>Valkyrie Chronicles
