Archery RPGs
I'm an Archer at heart. regardless of how weak the party member is I just cant resist having one or being one if its single player,

what are the best RPGs for this itch that I must scratch?

Which RPGs don't have archers? Archers in the Pathfinder games are INSANELY, game-breakingly overpowered. The 3.PF ruleset kind of defined the modern notion of "archer"... WoW obviously had the Hunter class which was OP all the way into Wrath era (go find Warmane). Pillars Of Eternity had solidly performing archery (it's not really restricted to your class, it's just a weapon type you can choose to specialize into, but the bard and ranger classes were pretty good at it and you can gestalt them in Deadfire). If you feel that crossbows are archery (they are, by the way), then Underrail has extreme support for it as a playstyle including poisoned ammo and traps. If you feel that firearms are archery (they are, by the way) then Rogue Trader gives you immense options to be a sniper, marksman or soldier or any other kind of ranged combatant. Final Fantasy Tactics games have archers of course.

It's only really the Jrpgs that don't have archery because they don't really do tactical positioning.

That's cheating. Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2 are the peerless ultimate in real time action combat, so it's pointless to even mention them.

To give an opinion about PoE archers: played your bog-standard wood elf ranger in my first playthrough. It's simple class, and having high Perception is a good attribute during dialogues.
You get your standard pet animal, which I didn't really care about. They are useful, but I was there for the archery.
During my playthrough, I had a moment of thinking "damn, my character isn't really doing much, is he?", since I was always busy micromanaging the casters. The usual stuff for these types of games. Until I checked the statistics and saw that he had like 40% of the kills.
You don't get anything overly fancy, but he's effective. Also good with gunpowder weapons.
There is the Stormcaller bow in the DLC, which is one of my favorite bows in video games. This thing fucks.

The Cipher class also makes for a good archer.

Didn't Arcanum had a "bug" were fire rate of your bow/gun is tied to how fast you can click? Something to do with tick rates and modern processors breaking it?
If you ever wanted a bow that shoots like a Gatling gun, that's your game.

Yeah I had a big hammer but any armor was worthless at that level hence why any attack I didn't dodge other than it's scratch was instant death. It still took almost a week of day night cycles to kill it in the end where during the night I was also dealing with mobs of goblins. Try it yourself it it seems truvial. Point being... This was after I played the whole game which I found a good deal of fun but annoyingly easy compared to Monster Hunter which was my favorite series so that's what I did to try to get the same feeling. It was still nowhere near as hard as the regular Alatreon quest.

DD is a game where gear is infinitely more important for stats than level, and you have the weapon for beating the final boss, one of the best chest clothing items, and the torso armor that gives the highest Strength buff
bragging about doing something early but cheating some of the best gear in the game in to do it isn't impressive
Anonymous No.3865969 [Report] >>3866020
>>3865956
I'm not trying to brag about it. I'm trying to explain the lengths you have to go through in that game with all it's gear and level scaling to get the similar kind of experience that Monster Hunter games (at that time) provided. There's a lot I love about Dragon's Dogma but it feels like a slightly better Skyrim where it's more of a fantasy walk in the park RPG where you're a divine badass than Monster Hunter where you are just a scrappy samurai cave man trying to kill things way more powerful than you are.

Also, it's funny that you're claiming I somehow didn't play the game when the pic I posted was killing the drake with a weapon you only get by playing through the whole game. All I'm saying is that as much fun as Dragon's Dogma is, it's nowhere near the challenge Monster Hunter gave. Did you beat the final quest of MH3 and get you WOWIE KAZOWIE? Your opinion means very little to me if not.

Dude, dragons dogma is monster hunter for adults. Monster hunter is just over the top cartoon anime dragons dogma with little cat buddies and less Greek mythology.

The issue with dragons dogma is Capcom has no idea how good the series could actually be.

Checked. Reminds me of Battlefield. After the series’ accidental peak in BC2, the devs had to ask players “please help, what made this game good? We don’t understand or know what we are doing”

They are very different games, DD is a narrative driven RPG, Monster Hunter isn't really an RPG in any way other than you gather loot for better weapons like in some RPGs. As I've said repeatedly, there is a lot I like in DD, but it's way too easy. I wish it had a similar difficulty curve to MH, that's all.

>>3866155
They're made by the same company and very similar in many ways, that people got triggered by me mentioning that Dragon's Dogma was ultimately disappointing because it didn't live up to the other similar series is not my problem.

its not that they suck, its that there are plenty of other ranged abilities for other classes, so they seem kind of pointless. teleport and ignore height are critical for them, because they want to get really high, and not all maps have that, so its more like the game doesn't really play into their strengths as much as it does for other classes.
