Age of Mythology Retold: Immortal Pillars will release on the 4th of March. Finally, we'll get to play as China (again). Will you be playing, /vst/?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vBe-Tcehu4
Also, Retold will come to PS5 for some reason.
What the fuck, are Lu Bu and Diao Chan the villains?
I'm a bit disappointed it's only a 9 mission campaign but I'm hoping we get some Arena of the Gods/Battles scenarios on top of this stuff at a later date
I also hope it's just good in general
>>1951030I hope they drop arena of the gods and implement a proper multiplayer campaign
bros, is china going to be fixed?
>>1951238Kastor is going to the rice fields...
>>1951030I hope the campaign isn't just China vs China again, because it kinda sounds like it is.
Mostly care about them being fun and not too broken in multiplayer though, kinda wanna try them to add to my Isis one trick ponying.
>>1951756At max they could include allied Atlanteans from the sea but anything else is a huge stretch without magic space warping travel.

>>1950554American hands wrote that.
>>1950455 (OP)Yeah, I guess it had to be done. Would feel wrong leaving out something that already was made. Let's just get it over with
>>1953325This is not the same China from the old game.
What do you think about AOM extended edition? Is it worth playing? I kinda like the old graphics better.
>>1955049It does good. Though it feels entirely different with powers no longer being once per game.
>>1955049I think extended is ass.
>>1955049It's far superior to the original in most regards
One thing I love is that all myth units are worth using, which wasn't the case at all previously
That said, the colours are lesless vibrants, there's less gore, and voice acting is not that good
Guys he said Extended, not Retold
I do miss having a UI that looked like something instead of nothing
>>1952961>magic space warping travel.Like underworld passages?
>>1950455 (OP)I read the description twice.
Basically Chinks 2.0 can:
-Tower Defense Spam LOL
-EcoTurtle
Does that sound right?
>>1955667We'll have to see, though the farm god does sound potentially cancerous. They did a good job with Freyr though.
>>1955506Can we switch back to the original voice acting?
>>1956674The most popular mod for the longest time has been the Original VA mod, on their own ingame mod page
But again, the first anon asked about Extended Edition, which has the original VA, Retold doesn't
>>1955049To actually answer the question, EE is not that good and there isn't really a reason to get it over retold. It adds units to the pantheons that they were "missing", such as archer for Norse and generic melee infantry for egypt, which just makes them more samey and those units were not put into retold.
terminal silver medal shitter here, what do?
>>1957829The tutorial doesn't count so you have 13 days to get good enough to not fuck up Omens.
>>1957829>>1957840How about the underworld mission after destroying the ram? Maybe that one is easy.
>>1957829Light sleeper is the thing for you... well, in fact there are a lot of Egypt missions you could do on ludicrous
>>1957829The true shitter method is remembering that mods don't disable achievements so you can just grab whatever overpowered mod you want and blitz a mission that way
now that the dust has settled, are any of the definitive editions of AoE/M actually better than the originals?

I hate that they've made A-move zero-in on villagers
I've been playing AoM since it came out and I hate retold.
I did enjoy AoE2 DE and AoE 3 DE looks cool even if I only ever played the original, but they removed all of the soul of AoM.
I hate the new VA with the shitty "authentic" accents, since they're either ESL struggling to speak in English anyway or English natives trying to sound like an ESL. Also all of the new VA have the same feel where they can't show any emotion or be loud, it's like they're recording their lines in a library.
They also removed all the colour of the original and I hate this modern trend of smoothing out assets and removing light contrast because even if objectively the newer assets are higher quality, they look worse because they lack grit.
They also seem to have screwed with the balance to make the game appeal more to fans of other games in the franchise or other franchises.
What they also did with the original portraits by replacing them entirely with completely different ones only to sale shitty upscales of the original ones as DLC also sucks. Couldn't they have traced and extended the originals instead?
If you like Retold feel free to let me know why I'm wrong since I've never actually played it, but I saw too many red flags on the store page and no commentary videos alone.
I'm still carrying around the Gold edition on several USB sticks because it's near impossible to find, I understand it's not supported anymore but I wish they'd just dump the original games on GOG or whatever.
People suck off AoE 2 DE as the GOAT of remakes, but I don't believe that's true since by this point it has a bunch of content that outright replaces things in the original game, and there's no easy way of actually getting the original (HD doesn't count).
Right now you can only buy the scuffed extended edition which is no longer supported or Retold, which is a different game. I also hate ecelebs sucking the game off, since I know for a fact most of them didn't actually play the original.
>>1969699> I hate this modern trend of smoothing out assets and removing light contrastAgreed
> They also seem to have screwed with the balance to make the game appeal more to fans of other games in the franchise or other franchises.Balance was shit in the original: very few myth units were worse using, many gods were unpickable in a competitive setting
>>1969818True enough, I was thinking more of the extra units than balance changes by themselves.
Both Retold and any AoE DE should have "legacy" modes if that makes sense.
It's really jarring how poorly received some remasters are compared to the one C&C got, which changed nothing in terms of actual gameplay, with many of those poor reviews complaining about how nothing got changed, when in my opinion those are fine if priced accordingly.
I don't oppose new content, but I hate when your only option is to play a version so far removed from the original.
There's a place for both and there's virtually no reason that a new release could not introduce changes and deviations but either make them optional or purely qol additions (like unit queue in the C&C remaster).
Software preservation is important to me, and AoM retold is too much of a Theseus ship thing to me, where they kept replacing things to the point where it feels like it's not the same thing as it once was and there's no easy way to have a "purist" experience.
The ideal way to do it (in my mind at least) would be the legacy "base" that just upgrades the engine/ ports the game etc., with options for QOL added, balance changes for multiplayer only (so campaigns don't get affected) and then releasing 4K assets as free DLC and the new supported game mode with expansions being it's own app/ launcher setting/ whatever.
Then release the original with some compatibility fixes as freeware or discounted price, then make the original game engine open source.
That way everyone should be happy.

1. How's the campaign? Is it a completely separate affair, or do characters from the original AoM appear?
2. Why is it only 9 missions?
>>1969818Agreed. Hydras and Scyllas couldn't achieve in both the original and extended their true potential since Greeks have no healing unless you pick up Athena for her one-use restoration or Apollo in place of Dionysus.

>>1974442Took me a few attempts to make the Gaia Tree Wall work. The first time I tried it I decided to wall off the entire Kronos base (Big Solution)...only to make my game crash cause it didn't trigger the countdown. So then I went for the Small Solution you see in screenshot.
One thing I did notice about the Big Solution was that the Kronos AI did task villagers to start cutting down the trees I had planted in front of the gates. Just one villager at first, but when they were close to breaking through it tasked multiple villagers in to assist for the final push. When a hole was made it immediately sent an army through.
So theoretically the AI knows how to break a tree wall. It just can't apply that same solution OUTSIDE it's base.
>>19741881. It's an upgrade from the Extended Edition (which isn't saying much), which boils down to "immortal hero loses his mortal waifu and goes mad trying to destroy the Pillars of Eternity all rights reserved").

Now the question at hand is which civ will come in the next DLC? Chinese were predictable, but which part of the world and mythology will they tackle next?
>>1975618Campaign was pretty mid but I liked it. Nowhere near as much as the FOTT. The only really cool mission was the underworld one. None of the heroes actually had a character maybe besides Houyi because literally the first thing he says and the first thing said about him is just who he is. The Gods are really fun to play though, Iโll have a lot of fun trying them out in normal play.
>>1975727Super hope Mesopotamia since that is personally the most interesting and I think you can make the most out of it since itโs the last major ancient religion with considerable amounts of information on them left. People otherwise keep saying Japanese, Celts, Hindus and Mesoamericans which Iโm not too fond of. If I couldnโt have Mesopotamians I would be alright with Mesoamerica though, the others suggested are just kinda dumb
>>1975727Whichever is the cheapest and easiest to do. So Celts or Japanese.
You can feed the players whatever and they won't complain.
You can steal ideas from AoEO to make the civ design.
There's bound to be a billion people who can draw Japanese or Celtic shit compared to some weird apparations from Mesoamerica or the largely alien Mesopotamian shit.
>>1975780I liked how Ajax, Setna, Brokk and Eitri briefly returned to lend a hand. Compared to Tale of the Dragon I liked that bit that connected the FOTT/NA with the POTG.

>>1980795The entire mythical age in Greek myths is completely nonsensical, timeline wise. Heracles, who thought titans and Typhon, despite having the lifespan of a regular human, lived close enough to the siege of Troy that Iolaos partook in it, albeit as an old man.
So 90% of the events of Greek mythology took place within the span of some 60-80 years. It isn't supposed to make sense.

I scouted my save tc having 0 resources nearby so I decided to take the forward one, which secures me a lot of food and also some gold. I know I'm not spotted by the obelisk and I get to pick up his Wadjet for free as he tries to kill mine.
>>1999263As his Wadjet falls, I see hi taking a tc right next door, so I get ready for a spicy game.
>>1999265While walking around to scout my Priest finds him building a Market, confirming to me he's going for a fast heroic, meaning I can do the same without fear.
>>1999271Due to my opponent utilizing market macro and making farms instead of hunting I get up faster and decide to place a very aggressive migdol to deny his gold.

However I don't notice him getting up at that same moment and even worse I don't even notice him using locust on my villagers and they all die. A couple seconds later I look at my migdol and get confused why there's only a lone Pharao there.
>>1999288Fortunately my ancestors and myth units do enough damage back to him to equalize the eco, but it's hard to keep track of stuff like that, so all that I know is I suddenly have a lot less vills than I wanted to have. He also does get up his own migdol at the same time and a siege works that in theory I should have seen. I instead decide to continue on for a fast mythic though, since I have a lot of res in the bank and eggy vs eggy matchups kinda feel like a race to mythic to me, for the Osiris camel riders.
Surely the siege works can just be ignored...

>>1999299I scramble to get a new migdol up and somehow defend at my tc but he's producing faster and his camels are significantly stronger than mine due to Ra and Sobek buffs.
>>1999307I don't die thanks to soo micro and a well timed mummy, but my tc falls, while my opponent even manages to sneak in a third. Economically I am in shambles now, but I did manage to sneak out champion camels and aim for desert wind next so I can take advantage of my tech. >>1999310I don't have enough army for an attack on a tc, but I am stable and my obelisk reveals villagers on a gold mine. Knowing from my own experience the pain of playing eggy without gold I instantly send camels there and on the way they reveal yet another soft goldmine of villagers.
>>1999313The chaos has begun. Now it is my opponent that's struggling to produce, despite his huge villager advantage. Somehow one of my villagers also ended up there so I decide to start a tower (it doesn't do anything).
>>1999316At the same time his front is also collapsing. He has a tc and a migdol that I can't break yet, but his villagers are not save.
>>1999318I didn't realize it until my opponent resigned, but at this point the game is pretty much over, with my opponent having no army, worse tech and no good way of mining gold there's nothing left for him. It's kinda easy to see with the army graphs in the replay, but after I lost the tc I legit thought I was lost. I think getting the 3rd tc instead of first adding more migdols was a big blunder by my opponent, because that made it so he couldn't produce. I find eggy macro really hard with the current patch where migdols cost 500, due to the huge upfront cost of the production, so I can sympathize, but I guess we all just gotta get gud. It feels great to win a game like this where it's on knives edge and you feel like you've lost but then you win! (elo was 1380s)

I can see why some people are quitting Celestial. Found out the Moderate AI, and it will always be moderate, only advances when (you) advance- and this can be cheese'd.
Don't advance when you have a temple and the resources but instead build up an army of whatever archaic unit is available. Then send them into the enemy base to shut down EVERYTHING. Only when the villagers are all huddled up in towers or their Centres do you advance. And then when you're at Classical finish them off while stopping any attempts to start military productions.
Works best with archers.
Did we ever get any hints as to what is going to be next DLC faction? Also, what happened to all the DLC deities we were supposed to be getting? So far, we only have Freyr as the fourth Norse god.

I'll admit I'm not as familiar with Odin anti-myth tactics to really give good advice there.
>>2016955>>2017056I can help.
If Norse with access to Forsetti, pick Forsetti. Economically oriented classical advance and get the Hall of Thanes upgrade ASAP by not shooting your hunt with your town center (deprives you of favor) and eating your chickens early for the favor. Might even be worth knifing a herdable or two if necessary. The later economic advance is fine, you need the extra resources to afford to defend yourself anyway. Good building placement, wall segments, and tower upgrade, garrison and micro are going to make it work.
Don't fall for the bait of making Throwing Axemen for hoplites. Sandbag with wall segments and buildings, use the Great Hall units. Threatening "counter raids" with Raiding Cavalry is a key check. Hersir are obvious- what isn't as obvious is the critical need to get the armory upgrades for the Hersir before they have to do any real fighting. Armor upgrades are 15% for heroes instead of 10%. Anyway, these are all fast units with higher HP pools that can pull back and heal up chip damage.
The big make or break is finding opportunity to setup a defensive position on a second goldmine. That's why the Raiding Cavalry are critical; if Zeus/Hades is just swinging around a wrecking ball you'll never get an opportunity to plant the fortifications necessary to buffer the unga-bunga they're going to do on the second goldmine. Towers and the Village Center is being slept on here. Get a goldmine with a Town Center covering it, then adding buildings, walls, and towers, then good. If you don't have a good Town Center, use a Village Center. It's not as strong but it's about having a dwarf-loaded building shooting all that extra pierce damage on Hoplites in that critical fight. This is also why you're not falling into the TA trap; max on trolls instead.
Norse that don't have Forsetti have Freyja. It's harder to play because you don't have the speed on the Hersir. However, all the same principals apply.
Get ready to watch Themistocles win.
Again.
(continued)
Freyja has a very important 20% hero HP upgrade to make up for some of what you lack by not having Forsetti. In addition, as useful as Trolls are, Shieldmaiden Valkyries are better per cost, are faster than Minotaur, and duel out Minotaur. If the opponent slips up at all and gives you favor, the tide can turn quickly.
An alternative to all this is rushing to the Heroic age with nothing but a Great Hall, defensively building and training Hersir for safety. This might be especially valid for Odin, who can put 1000 extra huntable food in his main base with a classical age Great Hunt. Hersir getting a free line upgrade with the age advancement and doubling the purpose of a fast armory, where in fact Heroic age Hersir with Sessrumnir and hack armor upgrade will effectively trade with Sarissa Medium Hoplites. The other Heroic-age bonus is access to Godi (a strong handful for sniping myth units only) and Jarls for everything else (and not being shabby at dealing with Myth units when they have Ring-giver either). A fact known to too few, but Jarls with any degree of matching upgrades trade even with Hoplites. If the Zeus/Hades player doesn't manage to capitalize on the opportunity cost of paying for Heroic and get locked into fighting a Jarl-based force, they can quickly lose the game to Heavy Jarls.

BREAKING patch news.
"Can you believe they did it???" rejoiced the only objectively non-biased expert pro streamer, Johnarbiter.
"I support the map changes" said one confidential informant, who wished to remain anonymous out of fear of being targeted by the Voobly cabal, "but at what cost? Egyptian is already over 65% winrates, and it's only been a day!" Player concern only seem to increase as time went on as more players acclimated to the patch changes. Before the changes, all civilization winrates appeared to be close to 50%.
"Good luck, my Norse brothers" said one popular AOM community leader after reading the patch notes. He, of course, rarely played Norse by choice, which matched the trend seen in the Major God pick choices of the most recent tournament, Clash of Immortals.

>>2020781as someone who likes to random, funnily enough the only change that has me worried is the fire archer.
I like the idea, but I'm not sure how horse is supposed to fight halbedier+ fire archer in classical age
>>2021069Same as before, Chinese is just less horrible at it. Train Berserks, pick your fights, ie. Pick off small number of units, simply never build Raiding Cavalry unless there are no Halberdier, and it's better to just tempo into Heroic and use Huskarl and massed Myth Units instead.
>>2020781>>2021069The Spearman buff is way over the top and I say that as someone that only plays Egypt.
>>2021132I wonder thought Egyptians needed that much of a buff? Even among the biased pros they still thought Egyptians had the strongest classical age pressure. They also justified buffs to other Egyptian units in the previous patch to go with Chariot Archer nerfs, only to rebuff the Chariot Archer. So now they're flat-out just stronger across the board, and it just doesn't make any sense. Ra was still within the margin of error on overall winrates, his 47.62% was almost exclusively driven by abysmal results against Chinese.
There's so much room to just do whatever you want with Egyptians right now. You can do a two monument, fast second TC, barracks army with no vulnerability into getting into Heroic and adding Chariot Archers. There's immediate value impact god powers in every age, technologies, fast units, strong units, fast training units, etc. There's no need to go for a specific timing attack or any kind of particular strategy, just a broad sweep of generic mechanical play and Egyptian will just default the win I think in every matchup right now except if they fail to sweep the legs out from Chinese before they get rolling in mid-late Mythic, which is the entire schtick of the Chinese civilization. It's brutally out-of-scope for what should be happening.
Ra's winrate is just astronomical at the moment. Above 1600 rating it's like 66%.
I hope they just revert the balance changes and blacklist input from whoever the hell they used for input on this patch because this patch just took things from somewhat balanced to outright not balanced. Completely wrong.

Anything else is up in the air and somewhat unlikely as AoE is a hobbo franchise run on minimal investment/minimal return theme. AoMR doesn't fit that since creating new content has a certain bar of standard they cannot go under and is thus too expensive compared to the potential returns.
Depending on whether the devs find another novelty to sell Microsoft marketing dept on, it's either going to be a goodbye or copy-paste god spam (adding new gods is cheap) until people realise it just kills balance without adding anything meaningful to the game and they're forced to quit it.

It's absolutely common knowledge these have to be faked otherwise they run the risk of tanking the morale in the community.
That's why they were invented. Blizzard doesn't show playercounts on anything because they use them to manipulate their stock price. So when people started saying X game is dead, they made the OG event like this to both heighten engagement and dispell all the naysayers.
And it worked... it worked too well. So they repeated it a while later, all confident about the result and... they didn't reach the goal. GG no RE.
Everyone has learned since then these either have to be brutally simple goals with no way of failing or a fudged count.
The new Chinese civ is so fucking well done.
Just god damn.
They're complicated, strong, but not obviously so, thematic, etc. just wow. Decently high skill floor, really high skill ceiling. Having competitive economic growth tied to favor being spent on Kuafu is an amazing core design considering that they balanced the favor rate and the value of their myth units and techs such that the choice between more kuafu or something else is right on the line.
Their pioneer scouting is also genius. Their human unit armies are so abysmally slow- their only mainline strong units the Dao Swordsmen and the Chu Ko Nu have snail-speed of 3.8, so the army really can't get caught out of position, so instead they use Pioneer sky lantern casts. It feels really clever.
In addition to all that, their unit asymmetry that just abandons the idea of parity is just so delicious for anybody who really appreciates the gritty excitement of asymmetric RTS. Their Dao Swordsmen is underwhelming 1 to 1 against all of its counterparts simply to have higher resistance to archers. They simply do not get a hack damage dealing anti-infantry unit, so they just have no *real* hard counter to high pierce armor infantry. They don't even have a *real* archer in classical because it's reliant on multipliers, but the quasi-archer they do use to counter infantry actually has appreciable damage to buildings. When they do get their real archer, its a stat-loaded unit but not not in the ways that archers usually become oppressive, instead being loaded with a chunky slow attack animation and low range, which is just so incredibly unique.
It's just awesome. I really appreciate how they made the civ. They can't be played on autopilot but they're still good.

You can chart the entire win/lose outcome right now on who has the stronger 1 TC aggression strategy.
Everything else is just window dressing.
There's no tech timings, there's no 2nd TC timings, etc. unless you're already playing the civ with the upper hand of aggression. In which case, the civ is doing other strategies just because the civ can get away with suboptimal strats.
There's no matchup that's a 50/50 split in actuality. You just have the right civ or you don't. Raids don't matter.
If you play Greek, you're going to run over every other civ on 1 TC.
If you play Egyptian, you're going to run over every other civ other than Greek on 1 TC.
If you play Norse, you're going to run over every civ remaining on 1 TC.
If you're Atlantean, you're going to run over the last civ, the Chinese, on 1 TC.
Norse vs. Atlantean might be a coin toss based on available Berserk tech. Stupid high hunt might go to Murmillo+GP spam Oranos over Odin, but that's just because these are generalizing each civ when there are 1 TC aggression advantage tiers marked by major gods.
If anything else is happening, it's just somebody screwing around and making unforced mistakes. This last patch was so awful. The unit triangle is just non-functional. It's a shitshow right now.
>>2039082Play custom games with it on. You *can* try to opt out of it on ladder but for the sake of long-term competitiveness it's not a popular feature. Having AQ on villagers does most of the heavy lifting on lowering the skill floor anyway.

I'm not afraid to get political here, the unit balance in AoM always really bothered me. It's so much more blobby than something like Warcraft 3, but the time to kill just never feels satisfying. The unit counters are way overtuned, but at the same time feel incredibly weak. I'm not asking that the game let me just tech and deathball a single unit type, but the Chinese campaign had me just wanting to die since you always feel starved for the unit type that you need. >>2063586>weren't aom's numbers worse than those of aoe3?no, not even close
>>2063580Probably a Tsuchigumo
>Tsuchigumo are traditionally giant spider monsters, though unlike Jorogumo they're rarely depicted as beautiful women>Appears in a story where the hero receives divine aid from Amaterasu to defeat one with a legendary weapon (though a sword and not a spear in this case), mirroring the apparent plot>Battle takes place in a cave and Tsuchigumo are "those who hide underground">Name is also used to describe clans who were antagonistic to early Japanese rulersJorogumo is also possible given that they're women/spider demons with fire powers and she has a lantern there
But I wouldn't be surprised if she was the main villain and a Tsuchigomi rising up against the Japanese with other mythical beings like the Mishiguji who fell out of favour
>>2063653Here's a Tsuchigumo from the same series of games

That comes to a total of 28 fully unique major options. Just having 7 asymmetric civs with fully unique units and economies in an RTS game is already a huge deal.
I'm not opposed to Hindu mythology as an 8th asymmetric civ if they think they could make it, but I don't think it's practical considering it's not a "mythology" but an actual modern day religion- the third largest in the world. Neopaganism needs to excise vocal figures like Varg who insist that the gods aren't even real and are simply metaphors, and promote people who literally believe that the gods are real and controlling nature as their ancestors believed, if it wants to shake the "atheist LARPer" perception. Honestly, the LARP part may never go away given that it's impossible to actually follow these religions as they were followed back then due to massive gaps in knowledge. What little we do know often comes from biased, non-pagan sources. It would just unironically be better to try and create some whole new religion, but good luck selling that in an age where scientific materialism is growing exponentially.

why is Age of Mythology such a colossal failure??
Of all the Mythix age powers why does Tartarus gate suck so much? It's basically a glorified deconstruction that spawns bears.
>>2069450nta but i believe the point he's trying to make with "being yourself" is that he only supports religions that were started by whatever ethnic group you belong to
>>2069894It's a major threat until army deals with it, which is a huge pain if you're already fighting on a front. The Tartarian Spawn have huge damage multipliers against human units so if the threat isn't met with overwhelming force they'll deal huge amounts of damage. It's a good 60 second adventure to march an army over and crush the gate.
So the theoretical damage is massive, the initial cast is guaranteed damage, and it's a population-free threat that requires a lot of population space to answer. It's really good, but it's in the category of noobs not understanding any of that and thinking it's not good. Noobs would turn every god power into pre-nerf Implode/Lightning Storm if they were listened to.

>>2069450Yeah and where did those rites come from? They're expressions of the nature of the ethnos. And what determines whether a rite is correct or not, or still appropriate or not, is whether it is in alignment with the instincts that drive behaviour in general.
This is something that both christcucks who throw the term 'larp' around and historyfag traditionalists don't understand. Both groups uncritically take the 19th century victorian view of what a religion even is, i.e. a codified and unchanging creedal social institution, when in reality religion is in essence a total way of life and duty.
What determines what duties we have? Ethics, the study of the good. What determines what's good for us? Nature. How do we attain what's good for us? By being in tune with nature. How do we do that? By listening to our instincts and satisfying all of them without repression or compromise.
Someone like Varg is factually wrong, but his issue isn't that he isn't doing or believing what people from the past did. A historical behaviour isn't automatically a correct behaviour.
t. actually has a religious studies degree and investigates this topic a lot.
>>2070836>By listening to our instincts and satisfying all of them without repression or compromise.if i expose you to drugs you will gain an instinct to do drugs, which if followed without temperance, will result in you overdosing yourself and dying
you have a brain. your nature is to think critically. you are not an unintelligent beast, incapable of higher reasoning. sometimes you have instincts that need to be repressed or compromised on for your own safety and well being. you have the capacity to do that.
>>2070836>t. actually has a religious studies degreelol dumbass
>>2069906>he only supports religions that were started by whatever ethnic group you belong toWhy would anybody in the 21st century support religions in general? They were methods to explain the world that are no longer needed thanks to scientific advancements.
>>2071793You don't gain instincts - what you're referring to is an impulse. In the case of drugs you're satisfying an instinct for pleasure at the expense of an instinct for fitness, resilience, etc. and so they are inappropriate because they are a compromise.
>you have a brain. your nature is to think critically. you are not an unintelligent beast, incapable of higher reasoning. sometimes you have instincts that need to be repressed or compromised on for your own safety and well being. you have the capacity to do that.Yeah this is just ego function, which is only a juvenile middle step of mental growth, and leads to mental pathology and nihilism if it is all that is valued. Which is why the crisis of modernity happened. The purpose of the ego is to mediate between the instincts and find ways to satisfy all of them. "for your own safety and well being" is nonsensical, there is no well being other than the satisfaction of the instincts.
Platonists, stoics, scholastics, enlightenment rationalists etc. have all worked themselves up so much over the ego and have merely blinded themselves to the next stage of growth. They think because they overcame the extreme impulses of childhood that they reached the end. It's a sophomoric outlook.
>>2071967>they are inappropriate because they are a compromise.Everything is a compromise tho
this game is fun and fixes my problem with standard AOE which is the units are too plain. adding minotaurs and god powers and cool shit really spices up everything and actually makes spearman/horseman/arrowman shenanigans enjoyable. i just smashed a game with laser alligators and it ruled hard.
>>2073105If you enjoy it you might also enjoy watching the Mythic Wars tournament that's been going on.

AOMR is a good RTS
I want big blue Kali tits.
>>2073697t. fate grand order player
>>2073742Yes that would do quite nicely, just a bit more blood and it'd be perfect.
No time limit for weekly challenges, and as long as you do all 16, you unlock all the awards including the new major god portrait.
So yeah, they gave up on this whole โcommunityโ thing 2 months in.
>>2075860To be fair the "rewards," are a nothingburger
stop dodging water maps you cowards
god. why are multiplayer games always filled with toxic autists who only want to do one superspecific strat in identical conditions on repeat.
>>20763071v1 Lost Temple Terran only pleb.
>>2076307Water is just not fun. It removes all the asymmetry from the game except for myth units.
>>2076826>no asymmetry>godpowers>economies>naval bonuses*>myth units>myth technologies>land is still just as asymmetrical as before*since you didn't know, Greek: 5% more hp, Egyptian: -10% ship cost, Norse: 10% more attack, Atlantean: Extra range (and ranged Hammer Ships), Chinese: -1 pop space
water maps are fun especially since docks stacked with fishing ships are so strong it's impossible to aggressively sweep water against a competent opponent which makes EVERYTHING come into play.
It's really that toxic autists hate navigating all that variation so they just bunt then act like its water maps that are the problem to save face.
Hows the game doing? was thinking of buying it now that its on sale.
>>2079353It's going great. I just played a sweaty 32 minute game. There's a lot of players.
>>2079353Statistics are bad, but it's easy to find opponents. Sometimes the pathing still gets a bit whacky and the current pattch buffed buildings, which a lot of top players seem to hate, but it's a good game.
>>2079353It hits me like straight drugs to my RTS-obsessed brain. It's like Starcraft and Age of Empires 2 had a baby, everything is OP so nothing is, therefore fundemental strategy is king. And it looks cool, focuses on being fun, and the ladder is stuffed full of challenging players, and I got to top 50 in US ladder in SC2 when I focused on it a handful of seasons I don't think I'm an RTS slouch
>>2039105>for the sake of long-term competitiveness it's not a popular feature. Having AQ on villagers does most of the heavy lifting What does this even mean?
Look. It's inconsistent. It's like if smb let me jump on certain moments but not others. You want me to larp as skilled player who need no AQ, when villager AQ is a thing?? Why is it a thing then. I'm fooling nobody.
If they banned villager AQ too, I'd go and play your game. That is based.
>>2042880>>The โMilitary Autoqueueโ filter option for the multiplayer browser now has options for โAnyโ, โOffโ, and โOnโ to allow more choice in how the filtering is applied.Oh, c- wait, when is this on the base game? I'm the kind of person who buys the base game and get the expansion if I like it. Yup. BACK to Extended.
>>2080271>What does this even mean?idling your Towncenter is 10000% worse than idling your military production. So AQ on villagers does more to bring up a noob to a level where they can even begin to compete, while not undermining the importance of macro skill to differentiate skill level the rest of the way
>>2080271>when is this on the base game? I'm the kind of person who buys the base game and get the expansion if I like it. Yup. BACK to Extended.poorfag ESL faggot, Extended is your poopoopeepee
>>2080299This is a bunch of mumbo jumbo to justify your flopgame.
"AQing an unit" is ONE mechanic. It's the same mechanic that you somehow separated into "villager" and "military" for some reason.
That is why it is good to have AQ to help noobs. BUT suddenly you don't want to help noobs anymore at a random point. Total designflop. It makes no sense. It can't be called design. It's flopdesign.
>>2080322>babbys first game design argumentapplying your restricted design integrity logic, all RTS games make some sort of arbitrary cutoff compromise. all of them.
multi-unit queue, multi-unit select and at what number, multi-building select, having hotkeys (or not having hotkeys), any degree of unit AI, resource autoharvest and autoreturn, rally points, moving rally points, control group(s), auto spellcasting or spellcasting or smart spellcasting, smart queue, global queue... the list goes on
all RTS are total designflop. unplayable noob catering genre. forest from the trees. fucking lel
