Kinda strange to release an RTS game based on HBO GoT 6 years after the show ended and after the later seasons ruined any cultural significance the show had.

Cautiously optimistic. I like the idea of modern BFME2 but for me the main fun was stomping hordes of orcs and uruks, not fighting spearmanii vs. spearmanii, just doesn't make for as good a spectacle. I see that a night king faction is playable, hopefully they'll provide some fodder.

The books cut off just before the Siege of Winterfell but Shireen isn't even there for Stannis to burn in the first place, she's still at Castle Black, and when his men suggest that he start burning people for Rh'llor to clear the blizzard that's trapped them in the countryside of Winterfell, he tells them to "pray harder" and refuses to burn any of his men except for 4 men at arms who were caught cannibalizing corpses. In the last chapter where he appears (a teaser chapter for the unfinished next book) he sends one of his knights with money from the Iron Bank of Braavos to buy sellswords from Essos and as he's leaving, tells him

I don't see it being anything but bland to the extreme. I see people often want this setting for gsg or other strategy, but why? Footmen in red uniforms versus footmen in grey uniforms? It doesn't have enough fantasy in it for any real unit variety. Just the white walkers if they're actually playable, beacause I doubt they will put in anything from Essos.

Night King is now 1-0 on him. It's not enough that Jon was reduced to a simpering follower of 'muh queen' and sent packing beyond the Wall after accomplishing so little, Jon's humiliation must continue even beyond the show. Jon got a pretty raw deal despite more or less being the chosen one.

Sucks lorewise, but honestly makes the most sense for faction variety. Having Targs and White Walkers means you'll have 2 weirder factions while the Starks and Lannis can be 2 different sides of Westeros humans. Maybe Lannis being more offensive with knights and the Starks being defensive with lots of heavy infantry. While I'd prefer all the houses to get their own factions, it'd be pretty samey. I'm sure a good dev could pull it off, so if it's any good the devs will hopefully get the experience to make their factions good in DLC. I'm not getting my hope up for an experienced dev team to get an RTS right though. I feel like RTS is the easiest genre to fuck up through not understanding the many small things that make them satisfying. Age of Smegmar and Steel Harvest come to mind. On the surface they should be good, but when you play them, they feel so bad.

If the game has subfactions, you could just have him as one of the 3 Baratheon subfactions. RTS games with subfactions are the best. Gives you some variety in a faction you already like. It'd really work in this game as well because each of the houses has several potential leaders. Probably won't happen though with 4 factions at release.

Yeah that's why there're GoT mods for TW, and sandbox games like M&B, it fits well. It might fit the best for CK and of course there's GoT conversions for that as well. I haven't played that but it's probably better than company slop.

Wrong, 2 is the minimum. In fact there are games without separate factions at all.
As for max, if we're counting AoE/RoN style factions, which is just slight stat changes and 1 or 2 unique units, then the options are endless. If not then Dawn of War 1 had 9 unique factions with all expansions and then mods add even more.
