Glad to see a CK2 campaign in this thread - anons here appear to be mostly focused on vicky and EU for now, and there's not too many posts on CK2 which is at this point my favorite grand strategy game. I've started reading Sabatini recently, and aside from the fact that he writes phenomenal historical novels, I've noticed just how similar some of his narrative descriptions of real world history were to the events that occured in my CK games. This game is absolutely amazing at creating realistic, semi-historical storylines that can go in all ways possible - from the player messing around to the AI acting on its' own. If you roleplay well, it becomes a history sperg's dream, which is quite fitting for me.

Anyways, my current campaign hasn't lasted for too long yet, but I've been writing an AAR. Essentially I'm a muslim Duke of a duchy in eastern Iberia - being stubborn I have decided to become a marshal for my liege despite having no talent in military matters - and after helping my liege put down a rebellion, I actually got the title. My wife died of cancer so I betrothed myself into some 9yo cunny and married another 16 year old (islam ftw) while having to defeat two rebellions (some guy wasn't happy about vassal autonomy and revolted and I impaled him, his son who inherited his land wasn't too happy either so after quashing his forces I impaled him too), and eventually got my liege into promoting me to both marshal and commander after I helped him defeat some retard rebel. Now the land is at relative peace and I have like three children, so I'm waiting for whatever happens next.

Couldnt agree more, I got into the boat of CK2 very late.
I always heard of the game but never bothered because of these prices at the time and I was just playing a Fallout mega campaign from Fallout Nevada, 1, 1.5, 2 around 2019 when Holy Fury was released.
So glad I play it now for about 2 years now, and I have around 700 hours and I feel like I havent scratch all the possibilities and roleplaying potential.

I use my money to sponsor Jihads.

Roleplaying as a vassal is sometimes so unrewarding sometimes but I totally get the reasons.
The Capet playthrough I spoke of was really dissapointing in some aspects while great in others. At the start, everything went well. I was Charlemagne best friend as Robert Capet. Battle buddy and even his chancelor.
After both died, feuds, conflicts rose. Things started to be interesting and I wanted to see how things go and... It turns out everyone hated the Karlings around and they elected me as Emperor.
I wanted to make a stop and continue to feud but everyone wasnt agreeing.

"Semi historical" is a big stretch. To me the fun of these types of games is to look at the world and how it has developed, CK has the most ridiculous and unrealistic results by far. If you like fiction with a light historical backdrop this is indeed the game for you, but there's no way you can be a "history sperg" and not cringe when you unpause the game and watch it run for 100 years.

CK2 has settings that can be tweaked for a more immersive and historically accurate game.
So far, its still more historically accurate than CK3. Just for the College of Cardinals, how people respect a certain branch of a family through the bloodline mechanics and more.
The 1066 bookmark is the most research and interesting start in CK2 for that reason.

Idk, being able to create warrior lodges if you are hellenic, being the easiest skill to level up and increasing both your levies and retinue is pretty damn good.
Most is mosdef Stewardship and Learning, if you already had loads of Hermetics artefacts its goated so you can join a monastic society, satanist, assassins or warrior lodge and reap all the boons + more tech spread.
