Glad to see a CK2 campaign in this thread - anons here appear to be mostly focused on vicky and EU for now, and there's not too many posts on CK2 which is at this point my favorite grand strategy game. I've started reading Sabatini recently, and aside from the fact that he writes phenomenal historical novels, I've noticed just how similar some of his narrative descriptions of real world history were to the events that occured in my CK games. This game is absolutely amazing at creating realistic, semi-historical storylines that can go in all ways possible - from the player messing around to the AI acting on its' own. If you roleplay well, it becomes a history sperg's dream, which is quite fitting for me.
Anyways, my current campaign hasn't lasted for too long yet, but I've been writing an AAR. Essentially I'm a muslim Duke of a duchy in eastern Iberia - being stubborn I have decided to become a marshal for my liege despite having no talent in military matters - and after helping my liege put down a rebellion, I actually got the title. My wife died of cancer so I betrothed myself into some 9yo cunny and married another 16 year old (islam ftw) while having to defeat two rebellions (some guy wasn't happy about vassal autonomy and revolted and I impaled him, his son who inherited his land wasn't too happy either so after quashing his forces I impaled him too), and eventually got my liege into promoting me to both marshal and commander after I helped him defeat some retard rebel. Now the land is at relative peace and I have like three children, so I'm waiting for whatever happens next.

I always heard of the game but never bothered because of these prices at the time and I was just playing a Fallout mega campaign from Fallout Nevada, 1, 1.5, 2 around 2019 when Holy Fury was released.

After both died, feuds, conflicts rose. Things started to be interesting and I wanted to see how things go and... It turns out everyone hated the Karlings around and they elected me as Emperor.

how the fuck do i deal with alliances in eu3? i've started playing it quite recently and what hampers me the most is the fact that each country has such a ton of alliances and marriages, and each one of their allied countries has some more allies, etc. etc. up to the point where i have to fight half of europe just to capture one small minor. i've seen some advice on paradox forums be essentially attack the country, get your war score up a little, force them to annul all treaties and repeat again when they're diplomatically isolated this time. i've tried this, except battles have an absolutely miniscule contribution to the war and really to force any kind of even slightly favourable peace i have to besiege their provinces, at which point there are already three or four armies on my own land doing the same. i'm playing as england for fuck's sake and i still cannot capture anything more complex than ireland. i have tried reuniting the isles by conquering the scots, but this resulted in half of ireland and the entire south of england getting besieged by 10-unit-stacks before i could even start with besieging the scots. there has to be some way to deal with this, right? i feel like the game is trying to nudge me towards a more slower, diplomatic approach a la ck2, except that the ai has no problems blobbing unrealistically, so i always feel like i'm on a timer and should expand asap. am i retarded and am i misunderstanding something? wat2do?

You are totally on either game having their own strength.
CK3 offers features that arent game changer where roleplay and scenarios often boils down to being forced to gain stress arbitrarly on your traits without the AI having any agency or playing on their traits. Which is a problem if you want a game that create emergent scenarios and stories. Especially so when the AI only exists to fuck the player over or have bonus only against him.
CK2 on the other hand is chaos but at a personal level, characters are dynamic. They want more lands most of the time but depending on their trait they may or may not act upon it. You can play that to your advantage and create emergent stories or use it to your own advantage.
Not to mention, that CK3 lacks a LOT of what made CK2 even more interesting and dynamic. Where the AI will be doing interesting choices that will work in their benefit.
I saw a story that one guy was the King of Aragon and was on his way to control most Western Hispania. However, to calm his vassals, he allowed more control on the council it worked great for the next two centuries. However, at some point a very gifted general was duke of Valencia and he was angry at his liege sins, and especially being sympathetic to the Muslims as he had Zealous trait. Always saing no in council meeting and having poor opinion even while having a seat on the coucil.
The player choose to murder him in a plot, it failed and the plot was revealed, so the Zealous duke asked the Pope to excomunicate the king of Aragon, he accept, at the same time he revolted, most of Europe joined in to fuck the player up since he was excomincated and the Duke took over the King of Aragon.
A powerful dynasty was put down because a pious little shit of duke with barely 2k worth of levies because he hated his liege for his sinful ways and his murder attempts.
You wont have stories like this in CK3 because of the AI.

ck3 has a built in genetics engine which simulates hereditary aesthetics, meaning that if my ruler has children, and those children breed with people of the same phenotype inside the same culture, the chances of my first ruler having the same likeness/appearance as his grand children and great-grandchildren is high, especially if there is a moderate (see: healthy) amount of incest weaved in to try and keep the same phenotype going
meanwhile in ck2 everyone just looks generically the same
in ck3 i can blob pretty hard, i don't know what's possible in ck2 but i'm led to believe it is more restrictive
i don't know what else ck2 offers, but in ck3 i can use the northern lords dlc to make the norse overpowered as fuck or if i choose i can keep them only as strong as they are in vanilla, either way i like to roleplay by torturing and killing as many non-pagan prisoners as i can, prisoners who i collected by sieges and raids, stacking up a large kill list for every ruler i control, basically griefing random foreign kings and dukes and counts as hard as i wish which is satisfying
basically i can make the game a giant powerfantasy simulator
oh and to add to that, i can use the royal court dlc to make court artifacts and wearable artifacts which stack bonus modifiers, some of which i now consider essential, like increasing the number of vassals i can have because i blob pretty hard

Surface level and honestly way too shallow compared to CK2. Only three tenets and religious laws that can be change while CK2 allows only specific religion to be reformed with a pletora of tenets to choose from that are very overpowered and fun to combine.

Thats just flavor, but talking about genetics that actually matters, the genetic lottery and abusing of certain congenital traits like pure-blood and the Blood Legacy perks that make the game more predictable when it comes to birth.
Compared to CK2, congenital traits are only influenced by strict percentage that marginally increase even if both parents have the same traits. The game thus organically pushes you to marry people that will benefit you instead of abusing mechanics that rely on RNG. Having a Genius/Quick/Strong heir is meant to be special. Not to be something to abuse which is made very clear by having a very slight increase in percentage.

You can blob in both games, the thing is the AI will actively be more organic in that. If you manage well your vassals and settle them on borders, they can literally do the conquering for you. Which is not something CK3 does unless there is a player imput.

There are three ways in which CK3 still can't hope to compete with CK2:

the trait called 'pure-blooded' is by far the game's rarest trait, and even when you do finally locate someone with that trait in your region, if you manage to marry him/her into your court, he isn't guaranteed to produce any children that have the pure-blooded trait
as someone who spends hours savescumming to make sure my children and the children of anyone else in my court inherit all of their parents' congenital traits, i haven't yet been able to breed the pure-blooded trait into my court although i did manage to capture a pure-blooded and marry him to someone of my dynasty and plant him as a vassal and hope something productive becomes of this
