got to 2000 after a few failed attempts as Romanov. Throughout the game I tried turning myself into a Stalinist/Social Patriot and at one point had 100+ points in both, revived the Cult of Stalin, etc, and then somehow a few months later moderates dominated the entire political scene by 200 points and I just couldn't get back.
Won the Afghan and the Nicaragua wars, invaded and split up Iran after they lost the war with Iraq. I was gearing up to invade China (which was embroiled in a civil war) when the game suddenly ended. Wish the whole thing was paced better to make it a proper lead-up into 2000. The second half of the game has a lot less content than the first.

there are guides on Steam. Stick with conservatives or moderates for your first few playthroughs, you can branch out into others later (the hardest ones are informal socialists IMO).
on your first month, invest 80 into importing luxury goods. This will kneecap one of your negative modifiers (acquaint yourself with all three of them, they're very important). You can immediately remove that import next month.
investing into heavy industry boosts light and military industry. You can keep the latter at 100 most games, though probably not right off the bat. Invest into government to prevent corruption, you'll get all of the money back because clearing out corruption unfucks your economy.

I was wondering what other nation they could make and I think it is a toss up on whether a smaller nation (South Africa perhaps) would be easier to make or whether a larger nation (USA) would be worth more comparatively.
