Fun fact, the Greeks are the most satisfying faction.
So much enjoyment retaking lost Greek cities like Syracuse, Marseille or Olba and then curb stomping the surrounding non tank-factions with mighty Hellon spear and shield. I've won crazy battles. Like 600 against 2000 and I'M the one sieging.

Yeah whenever I go back to anything pre Attila most factions just sit in their starting positions, build all the full stacks they can afford, and then never do anything

not even going to say anything about the 10k provinces, but why 7 factions on crete

In my experience it generally takes until like the 220s or so to factions to start getting their ball rolling in EB2. I am not sure why, though.

Excessive philohellenism, mainly, see also those 3 single-province coastal factions west of Crimea.

Iirc the dev team first focused on the hellenic/hellenistic world and will update the rest later. Simply put the documented world has more options for history autists to insert things like unit variety and the such than the illiterate tribes. Dont get me wrong I basically first play as the suebi almost every rome era game but there’s much more content to be focused on the literate world

There are two megablobs on hat map and they aren’t cartage or rome
Granted rome could be smaller for the player but it’s not absurd given the starting date
Anonymous No.2094462
>>2094460
Also due to cost of units if you do start as one of those megablobs you will be hemmoraghing income and suffer from painful rioting for a while
Anonymous No.2094665
>>2094454
we'll see if that changes with the rome update. they put all the factions that will ever be in the mod in this new soonβ„’ update.
>>2094447
also pretty much this. it makes sense to start with the greeks. has factions that everyone loves to play, their units basically form the standard for the entire world because pretty much everyone borrowed equipment from the greeks, thus making it easier to then do the modeling work down the line for all the other cultures and its far easier to pull sources from in terms of unit design and all that. romans are going to be pretty sick though. next summer gonna be litty.

>There are two megablobs
Wrong. For example, Carthage's hold over the other punic cities required a lot of overt force, bro, which is why you got things like the Mercenary war after the first punic war. At the very least cities like Utica should be represented as vassals if cretan minor #1738 is going to have a tag.

>Look for the total war eras 6-disc collection and install Rome+BI+Alexander using the appropriate discs
>After installing, copy over the No-CD patches for the game+expansions which can be found down the page here: https://github.com/anzz1/openspy-client?tab=readme-ov-file
>Download dxvk 2.4.1 from: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/tag/v2.4.1
>The file you want is dxvk-2.4.1.tar.gz
>Navigate through the archive (you may need something like 7zip) until you get into the x32 folder (Rome 1 is a 32-bit program, you need to use the 32-bit dlls)
>take both the d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll files from this folder and place them in your game's install directory (next to the game exes)
>make sure your GPU drivers are up to date

This is what I did and the game runs very smoothly. If you want to play vanilla I recommend installing BUG-FIXER v3.36 from here if you don't already know about it: https://rtw.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=3991
