- Dead fucking game. If you want to play anything beyond a simple 1v1, prepare to wait several minutes because there are no players. And even if you manage to play a match, you'll be against the previously mentioned sweatlords again and again.

I have played it, the mechanics could be neat but it's such a shitshow of meta fags and broken promises/changed promises that it's not worth it and never will be worth it. IF you could ignore the insane amount of hyper lefty shit the game has (well mostly because of the player pushing it, they literally call one of the ANS ships trans) Mazer just has no fucking clue what he's doing. He spent years, YEARS talking about the conquest mode, showing off the conquest mode, saying how much the testers loved the conquest mode, how good the conquest mode was coming along, how good the conquest mode was going to be. ALL the testers said the same shit, it's fun, it's great, it's a good challenge, etc. Conquest was basically star wars empire at war but with all the autism of command modern operations, proper logistics lines, intelligence, officers, ship militainment, you had to send ships for REFIT for gods sake, it sounded amazing. Then just one month after one of those same 'it's great, I love it testers love it it's going well' devlogs, he comes out and says 'actually no it's shit and we all hate it here's homeworld instead :D'. Unfortunately, there is no chance at all for the conquest mode to be revived. As the other anon said, mazer was always against the mode. He probably only worked on it for as long as he did due to pressure from fans. As soon as the sweatlord compfags outnumbered them in their discord echo chamber, he very gladly threw it all away.

I'm not even sure the singleplayer campaign is going to come out; that pessimistic am I about this game. Oh well, time to replay Homeworld Cataclysm.

The game itself and in isolation is alright. Most fun I had was on a big ass 15v15 server, that was pretty awesome. If he dropped all other developement and focused on retooling the game from ultracompetitive 4v4 and turn it into space battlefield, I'd be happy. Genuinely think it suits the game better.

Call me a casual or whatever all you'd like but the design issues with the game seem to be driven by an fundamental inconsistency at best or straight up knee jerk, rule of cool, throwing shit at walls garbage at worst.

It could still be a fine game. The issue with Discord servers, is that they are inherently an echo chamber. Few people, much less players, join a game's server. And of those, even fewer choose to actively participate. Just like you and me. This is conductive to the formation of cliques; small groups of people that acquire excessive amounts of influence and decision-making capabilities.

And how does this happen? Simple. Most people that are active on a Discord server tend to be of a certain type. Socially maladjusted, introvert, with autistic characteristics. It may seem like a stereotype, but it's the truth. A developer that spends their time on their Discord server, also belongs to this type. So he surrounds himself with people similar to him. And these people, go from fans to acquaintances. They form parasocial relationships and bonds with the developer. And thus, the capability to influence him. Which they have, undoubtedly. It has been previously mentioned, but the sudden 180º change in opinion Lys made regarding the conquest mode wasn't natural. It was the constant badgering by this clique of hardcore mp players to scrap it, and focus exclusively on the competitive multiplayer.

When we mention troons, it is because not only the developer is one, but several of the clique members as well. Since you are in the server, you can check it out yourself, and see how many of the regulars have transitioned. I will admit one thing though: being a tranny is incidental to this whole mess. They aren't Discord obsessed sweatlords because they are troons, they are troons because they are Discord obsessed sweatlords. It's the personality type that drives them to transition.

They hated it all along, they actually hated how the logistics work, how the intelligence works, how the fleet building works, how battles work, how the game flow works, all of it. Not only is there shit loads of examples of real wars being fought by the many and good enough weapons (WW2 as a prime example with the sherman and T-34), but they also tried to back up their claims because 'we were chosen as testers so we know better :3'. The issue isn't purely that they're desperate for new blood. The issue is that high-level players who exclusively run meta are curbstompin new players and driving them away. The high level players also happen to be the discord crowd and don't want their meta broken up.
So their solution is to encourage non-meta players to run the meta.

Personally, I would have loved a Starsector/Escape Velocity Nova style game but set in the near-ish future of the Solar System setup as The Expanse with a few recognizable major players. Player's a mercenary, free fly from planet to planet, taking missions or doing piracy or hauling cargo, modifying their ship or buying up a fleet.

i dont understand why they would take the effort to make a game and then shoot it in the foot like this.
the only game mode that currently exists is only suitable for playtesting the game. its not going to attract players and people who were interested are going to be driven away by it. At the very least if they wanted to focus on 5v5 skirmishes they should have built a matchmaking system for it instead of depending on manually created games.

I played the game some when it first became available to buy it and it was a fun combat playstest, but they never did anything with it. I really dont understand why anyone would defend the game, its obviously dying. The game could have been fairly popular.

But the egotistical feedback loop compels them to seek approval from their captive audience in a space they can control, rather than risk seeing real criticism and negative feedback from the outside. It's why so many pf these small projects ignore their steam forums entirely and rely on discord instead.

Does anyone actually know of any games that do what conquest was going to do, at least somewhat? Mainly what I'm thinking of it handling fleet logistics and production and fleet movements on the strategic level (ammo being a part of that logistics scale helps since I've always enjoyed the every bullet counts way of handling logistics) while also having decent enough tactical level battles where you're fleet make ups matter more on a realistic sense then a bullshit 'but my mega hyper death fleet :(' sense, EG 'more good guns is better than one perfect gun'. I basically know of no games at all that do this unless you count empire at war, which I don't

Games don't usually depict the nitty gritty of supply logistics because it just isn't very fun. The closest I can think of that still abstracts it enough to not be miserable to play is probably Sword of the Stars, but that game is ancient at this point and I'm not sure if it even runs on modern hardware.

Aurora only has half of what you're looking for. Honestly the best example of what you're talking about is probably Rule the Waves 3 but that's a naval game and is lacking logistics. Aurora is close but doesn't really have true tactical granularity, though it gets pretty down and dirty, gets close.
