i had just westernised and had up till then been waiting to train the other half of my army as artillery and engineers. i was able to mobilise a huge number of troops (i picked equality as my national value which gave me an extra 1% mobilisation size than if i had picked liberty) so with my japanese brothers' help i was actually able to hold alright
