HOi III vs HOI IV Black Ice
So I'm finally able to beat Soviets in HOI IV BICE and now I have to ask is it better to stick with HOI IV or learn HOI III BICE? Which one offers the superior war gaming experience and more importantly which one is more fun to co-op? I find the OOB in HOI III very interesting and the production system seems far more superior albeit abstracted.

I am a zoomer that never played HOI III so I need to know if it is worth the investment to learn in your opinion. As much as I like HOI IV BICE I view 'sea-lioning' in 1940 to be immersion breaking and I need to know if HOI III really offers the superior experience

Oh and are the Panzeroo versions for BICE really better than the new ones?

thanks once again.

The problem with HOI3 is that it's only fun as Germany

How does Soviet Union play? Producing tractors in HOI IV was kind of fun at first but now it's just retarded. Fucking cookie clicker mini game in between the regular grind and replaying the same border conflicts over and over again EVERY time is a real pain in the ass.

Some other things I don't like are just HoI IV generally. I don't like focus trees and the spy system is kind of just a retarded chore. I know vaguely that espionage in HOI III is allocated according to leadership but I don't know how it works in practice.

I do however like the tank designer in theory but most of the time I do just end up using the preset templates. Would be nice to have a plane designer though because the air war is a bit more important and it'd be nice not having production efficiency completely destroyed just because I got a new plane model that uses 20mm cannons instead of machine guns.

In 3? Pretty much Germany, but commie. If you are losing as Soviet Union, chances are, you slept on the history lessons when WW2 was on.

I tried Hungary in Black Ice in Hoi 4 and got BTFO. Couldn't stand up to Yugoslavia, the Czechs and Romania at the same time and dearly wanted to grab all 3. Eventually I ended up planning all my production in detail in an Excel spreadsheet. I made three different army templates for attack and defence each, all with different sizes and/or compositions. Then calculated how much production I would need by the start of the war.

It actually worked to perfection. The Czechs capitulated just when my southern and eastern defences started to crumble. The other two I could then roll over easily. Never felt so much like an actual strategist planning a war.

Then like two months later Germany wanted to drag me into war with the Soviets. Not only was I completely unprepared for that, I couldn't decline more than a couple of times, I was eventually just pulled in. Still, quite a memorable playthrough.

Been ages since I last played HoI3. For all it's shortcomings, some of which have already been listed, I couldn't imagine going back to a time before fronts. Not to mention the mods that keep improving. There have also been some oddities in HoI3, like "non-aligned" countries being completely helpless. You could slice through the balkans, Turkey, Iran all the way to India and nobody would do anything to stop you.
