Is it worth playing Europa Universalis III in the year of our lord 2025? It's been more than 10 years since I last played it and I can't remember if the latest nomad mechanic completely broke the game or not. That being said I'm getting the itch to paint a map but I don't want to indulge the DLC shenanigans Paracucks put up in EU IV. I can't even be bothered to pirate it at this point

Had many happy hours learning the game and then trying various strategies as various different nations. Its rich like that.
Trying to bash my way west as China before the west gets too technologically advanced. Rerunning the British Empire thing. Going berserk as the Ottomans. Rebuilding the Byzantine Empire. Dominating Europe as the Teutonic Knights. Doing speed run World conquests as one of major powers.
But in the end the speed runs ruined it for me. When I finished a WC as France by 1566 with no vassals left alive I knew I had played it to death. But fuck did I get my money's worth out of that game.

you have to wait 50 years for a province to become core, or get the province after annexing personal union. There are no other non-modded ways. This makes EU4 blow 3 out of the water.
Also you can play as literally any country in the world, max out Free Trade, and become the global monopolist on every trade route becoming rich enough to blob the entire world.
EU4 is just better, even if mana is gay.

Here is a video of a dude playing eu3 instead of eu4 and regretting every second of it because guess what? Older game does indeed mean worse game for most cases. Now you can go and be smug about playing a bad game and having bad taste, not like it's the worse you can do anyways. Oddly good sliders on Chagatai though. Don't know if it had some historical basis or they wanted at least one AI faction to have somewhat of a chance to form the Mughals. Not that it works.
