You are not supposed to keep listening to the unit voices through all game, but eventually you should turn off unit voices, and music, and just play while listening to a livestream, podcast, or audiobook.

You can save manually, by finding the save folder on your computer, and just copy your autosave files from there, and if you need them, delete the current files, and put your copied saves back in.
