Honestly, I'm glad they got rid of mission trees as well, it just seemed like a last ditch way to circumvent a lot of the games other mechanics to desperately patch some flavor to specific nations because the game itself otherwise doesn't play very differently nation to nation. Thing is, while I enjoy the gameplay loop of EU enough, they haven't done anything yet to replace nation specific mission trees with something better, but they probably will later one.

I think it might be a bit like Stellaris in that you build the buildings and wait for the population to emerge to staff it. Laborers look a bit like clerks in that they will shit out some of the base good up to a certain amount, then after that it's barely enough extra food to cover the extra laborers.

To actually get the money, I am trying to figure that out. I think the money has to come from somewhere, unlike EU4. But it seems you can ask neighbours for money more frequently than in EU4, so it's like CK where you build up your economy and snowball. Except with all these trade goods, the market is likely to correct if every tag in a region is going for the same gap in the market, so building up an infrastructure building like "market village" which uses peasants might be better than creating something that makes the goods that get sold in other tags.

This is genuinely exciting and bewildering.

It's so fucking tedious man. I want to be fair and learn the mechanics but the UI is so poorly presented and overwhelming. Too many dropboxes, sliders, tabs, etc. What is important is buried beneath what isn't.
My biggest problem with recent Paradox games has been the ugliness.
EU4 was great because it offered depth in a simple, easy to navigate format. Yes, it's more game-y but it's a game. EU5 is a clusterfuck that tries to be a Frankenstein monster combining all of their games. I just can't see how they expand upon this without breaking the game with each update.

CK3 conquerors are dogshit. CK2 Alexander the Great events were super rare but never felt overwhelming, remained somewhat constrained and only lasted with the one ruler. CK3’s conquerors pop up ever other second, for some fuck all reason it’s defaulted to inherit upon death and are unbelievably overpowered, they make insane amounts of money, have a massively bloated army and blob everywhere. Everyone complains about UI when they're learning it. I think there's no huge problem with how it looks, but I find the 2 nested tabs within 3 nested tabs within 2 nested tabs design retarded. It's going to be fine when you get used to it, but getting used to that kind of UI sucks.

That is to say that people hate learning it, and they'll eventually suck it up. That happens regardless if it's good or bad. In this case, the reasonable frustration is learning where everything is. When you go for nested tabs, instead of having 20 buttons you don't know how to use, you have no idea where the 20 buttons are until you find them.

they landed small amounts like 6k stacks in england, i’d just wipe them and their navy while i have my large 50k stack in northern france
the ai is really dumb still, i’d sit on their fort with my stack and they would try to occupy an adjacent province with a small stack, and i just walk over and win battles like that repeatedly.
i only built 4 extra ships at the start of the game but my navy outnumbered theirs with levys which helped.

Different strokes. I can't describe accurately what my issues are but actually using the UI and map modes felt more difficult than any other PDX game. It just felt like a slog to navigate and get anything done.
