Why do the Battanians have more Roman looking helmets than the Imperials?

Why don't any of the imperial units actually use any of the kettle helmets they have as culturally theirs?

>>2210739
some of the helmets are on point for the late roman era
no idea why legionaries wear conic helmets associated with auxiliary archers
Anonymous No.2210772 [Report]
>>2210745
Conic helmets are good if they're supposed to be more 9th and 10th century byzantines but it's hideously inconsistent and half-hearted who gets them or what the stat progression is. Also they all use the really ugly shit variants like the laced cloth or leather coif that has low res textures and looks warband graphics tier, not to mention the mail texture is the worst. They also don't have the leather strips from the goddamn loading screen, which credit where due at least OSP actually adds, among all the other bloat.

Imo the empire spear troops should split off at tier 3 instead of 4 and the conic helmets should be used by them while the legionaries use spangenhelms and ridge helms. I'd also make the menavliatons have mail coifs with face covering so they actually look byzantine.

>Empire
>works as generalized faction
The fuck you are even on?
All Empire has is decent heavy infantry. Their ranged line is underwhelming archer, underwhelming crossbowman and dreadfully bad horse archer. Their cavalry is their noble unit that's just a lance knight.
Compare it with Aserai, which is the actual generalist faction, with solid infantry, solid ranged options, decent cavalry, actual skirmishers and one of the more unique noble units (even if it's still a cavalry). They have no weak spots, and they have all-around decent unit with decent power level.
Literally the only bad part about Aserai is shitty local economy - sure, it's secured from raids, but it's awful for making any real profit or even setting up profitable workshops

Doubling it just in case of anon missing the post from previous thread

They wear them because the game seems to have mostly dropped the actual dark age style for a more late dark age - high medieval feel. I mean look at the Vlandians. So the Roman faction is more akin to the 10th-11th century style Romans.

Guess it makes sense, it's only 200 years before Bannerlord and they already have plate armor by that time. Also fantasy game where vikings still exist alongside knights.
Anonymous No.2212030 [Report] >>2212040 >>2212085
>>2211881
i'm fine with them being anachronistic as hell considering everything else in Calradia, i just wish their aesthetics were stronger.Their low tier units look a bit too raggedy and monotone in whatever clan/faction colors they have because they rely so much on padding and leather, and have zero metal until the trained infantryman, and their higher tier units have a very sterile not-a-knight look with all the polished metal which would be fine if it was anything else, but doesn't scream Legionary. I think they just need more secondary colors and ornaments. Pteruges on all the brimmed helmets, coifs that actually close and protect the neck, more capes instead of scarves.

If they can dump dev time into bullshit like stealth they can do better than that. Feasts as just random slumber parties for lords will suck even harder if implemented like it was because of all the extra mechanics attached now, lords will probably go broke and lose their fiefs or die of old age childless because not enough time at home.

The best replacement is doubtlessly fixed factionwide annual events or clan + factionwide events.
-every year every faction should have a harvest festival at the start of winter where all the yearly harvest of grain and other food spawns in the town markets and a spring festival at the end
-every faction should have a cultural celebration with rituals and ceremonies the lords and faction leaders need to participate in for influence
-births and weddings get a clan-wide party thrown with friends invited that must bring gifts for a relationship gain
-deaths get a funeral with faction wide invitations where just attending gives relationship points unless you were enemies and it just makes you look like a bastard
-at events lords have to give speeches and your speechcraft skill gets skill-checked, steward if you're hosting
-games and dances held

I'd say so because their archers are kind of also underwhelming for the same reason. They only use 3 weapon slots. They don't even have a small shield for utility when they run out of ammo.
Give them a shield, then give the sturgian archers a second set of ammo. Now the imperial ranged units are true jack of all trades units and the sturgian archers at least have an ammunition advantage to make them less bad.

I found a rare 1257 AD remaster from 2021 by the guy that did the Italian Wars mod, it's called "1257 AD Dark Ages". It's quite good, reworks all the troop trees, adds new factions, and removes features that were never finished. Even has new sounds

but now that you've mentioned it, i did conquer it several times. maybe 5. and i've also conquered warband maybe 6 or 7 times over the years but conquering warband felt like a monumental achievement while it's meh in bannerlord.
i'm wondering how long does a warband playthrough take until you can defeat any faction vs how long does a bannerlord one take.

Yes, because their crossbowmen simply suck. They don't shoot too well and they don't fight in melee too well. They also suck in sieges as defense force (unless you auto-resolve). They are basically Vlandian crossbowmen, but one tier lower when it comes to everything that makes them.
And because they have crossbowmen and the exact same line ALSO has horse archers, AI armies end up having insufficient amount of archers to make them useful, bad crossbowmen that take slots AND a token force of horse archers that could be ignored to make room for either regular archers or cavalry.
Crossbowmen actively make imperial armies weaker and easier to defeat.

I haven't played Bannerlord so I can't say whatever it is faster.
But yes, conquest in Warband was very slow even after I had conquered half of the map, you'd think it would become faster but every site resisted very hard and some of my vassals kept defecting, so I had to reconquer castles
Anonymous No.2215792 [Report]

i've never just accepted anyone as a vassal in warband.
i either recruited upstanding lords exclusively with only 1 or 2 martials to appoint as marshalls.
or i took in whole families.

i really wonder what the hell they're gonna change in War Sails because my main, overwhelming srouce of frustration with the Bannerlord map is that neither hills nor river make geological sense. On the eastern side, there's no fucking clear indication whether the big lake(Lake Tanaesis?) is drained INTO by the rivers north and south, or drains OUT to them. I always assumed they drained out because to the south there's something like fertile crescent between two of those rivers, and to the north it somehow diverts and converges and the tributaries either make a 180 degree turn into the flow or the flow just goes the other way and switches randomly.

The rivers in the continent itself are also really stupid. The big pond by Saenopa has a river just flow into it year long without anywhere to drain to, it's obviously supposed to be some kind of volcanic caldera but it's location doesn't work for that because it'd just overflow SOMEWHERE, and it'd make more sense if it did so down to the same river that goes by Phycaon. Meanwhile the river that does go by Saenopa would be much better connecting with the one that goes to Argoron, that way you have the continent and especially the imperial heartlands have a clearly defined somewhat smooth sea lane into it from both north and south, and those rivers would define the geography much better as a natural barrier meaning you don't need everything to be a fucking Turkish mountain ridgeline maze.

i made this image several years ago and i still am annoyed the map never got better.

your rivers make a lot more sense,
Regarding the map itself, I wonder what the devs' intention was with the map. Warband they had very clearly goal:
>let's make every region as unique as we can.
But their motto in Bannerlord seems to have been, "how many random mountains can be cram into the map?

It's clear the Bannerlord map was built from the ground up to create a lot of lanes for parties to be forced to fight eachother and to slow down steamrolling because they couldn't figure out how to make it work with gameplay mechanics alone, and also to make it feel larger by making many A to B travels require a lot of detours.

His father was Cao Song, but he was not really a Cao. Cao Song had been born to the Xiahou family, but he had been brought up by Eunuch Cao Teng and had taken this family name
That's the introduction of Cao Cao in Moss Roberts' translation. I keep getting confused by it. I'm not sure what flying cavalry is, I cannot find anything...
This translation is confusing for no real reason for example
>So Liu Bei set off and marched as quickly as possible to Yingchuan.
So, I don't know what Yingchuan is. I presumed it was a city, because in China, there is a major city called Yingchuan, but turns out this Yingchuan refers not to the city of Yingchuan, but the Commandery of Yiangchian, which is very far from Yingchuan City. Moss could have made it more implicit.

1257 EE is about making 1257 bigger and better. It is probably better in terms of scope and ambition. 1257 Dark Ages is more like narrowing the original mod's scope to something that is polished and straight forward. You get the big map, cool new assets, some new factions. But there aren't any really cool new features, and the half finished features of the original are stripped away.
Another version I liked was Medieval Conquests. That author somehow stole the source code before the modders released it and added a lot of cool new features like factions splitting up and having civil wars. But it's not that polished (though stable)

Conquest in BL is definitely faster, which imo is due to the game mechanics: sieges are easier/more managable, armies are much easier to manage since all you really need is influence instead of being marshall, Lords are less autonomous so they're less of a hassle to wrangle, oh and you can become king (insanely easy) that's a big one to me. The game is all around just easier than Warband for some good reasons and some bad reasons.
