That's why when someone like Miko comes up with her reading of the name (those characters being the wako in Kiwako), it's not that she can't read the characters, it's that she has no idea what the intended reading for this purposely weird name is. Even for standard names, the exact same characters can read as multiple different names, there's plenty of history where authors take advantage of this for pennames, just changing the reading but keeping the characters.
